I had heard about the fires too but after researching I felt the risk was much lower than a traditional deep fat fryer or even cooking on a hob with hot oil. Plus no smells of cooking oil is a bonus.
Tefal response
Tefal says that 221 (0.4%) of the 55,000 Actifry units sold in the UK have been reported to suffer from a faulty fan motor overheating.
Tefal claims: 'It is normal for any appliance with a hot air heating system to produce smoke if the fan fails, as this causes the element to overheat and melt the surrounding plastics'. Tefal continues to state that this does not mean that the product will catch fire.
Tefal says it consulted trading standards officers and they agreed that there was no safety issue.
The company adds: 'The Tefal Actifry is completely safe and has been designed to "fail safe". This means that in the event of a product failure, it will shut down safely with all power cut immediately.'
Tefal has set up a dedicated consumer telephone number, 0800 055 3678, for anyone with concerns about this product.
The Tefal Actifry is a fryer that Tefal claims will allow the user to fry enough chips to feed a family using only a spoonful of oil. This is said to make chips contain less fat, and the product more energy efficient. When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -

It has been almost 3 wks since my last post and I have had some ups and down - total weightloss at that time was 23 lbs however 3 weigh ins since then has been mixed
Firstly I sts weight which although disappointing I did have a bad week
Secondly was a very very bad week as there was a weight gain of 4 1/2 lbs
BUT today (having been on nights last week) I lost a further 6 1/2 lbs
So since starting I have lost a total of 25 lbs and am really happy about this. 3 more lbs and it will mean 2 stone - cant weight for next week as I am really going to try and have another large weightloss - go to the gym etc etc.
Hope everyone is ok

Eric: Say you only lost a 1lb a week, would that help with not getting sagging skin? or is in amount you lose irrelevent?
I have a target of 198.4 lbs for this year, I am committed to a year of eating only healthy and exercising, nothing bad for the next [STRIKE]12[/STRIKE] 9.5 months. After that year I will still have a fair amount to loose but I will just be clinically obese (if I can do it) and I will go for a more traditional diet with a 1-2lb a week loss.
There was just no way I could stay focused for 3 years and tbh I just don't think there is a need either, having such a huge maintenance level allows for a big deficit whilst still eating healthy. last night I had a 300g lean rump steak with 550g of wedges and stir fried mushrooms, hardly starvation foodit was damn tasty too
As of the moment I am still super motivated, the tweaks I have made to my system over the last time have made a huge difference, its defiantly more sustainable with far less risk of injury (which is what killed my last attempt) and also the weight training will (and already noticeably has) increased my muscle mass which will in turn increase my target weight and my metabolism. I used to weight train alot before the "blimp decade" and I wondered if I would be able to get that muscle mass back at 40, I know now from the early results so far that it will come back and a lot faster than expected.
I don't think its physically possible for someone so big to shrink back to a normal size, my arms and lower legs have very little fat on now almost normal levels but my mid section must have approached 3 times the diameter of a normal large bloke and I just don't see how it can go back, surgery is inevitable. My blimp is also not solid like many overweight people I know, it sits on top of my stomach muscle and wobbles like a water bed, urghhhhhh
onwards and "downwards" :j
also if i am truthful I cant wait to get to my weight that i got down to last time (close now) and then the next psychological marker which is very close to that0
