hi i have decided to try and lose some weight i am desperately unhappy with my weight gain since having my daughter in jan (last year!!!! yes she is 14 months today so it isnt still pregnancy fat) and then i went on the depo contraceptive injection which i believe doesnt help but i am well over 12 stone :( but i started using food focus last week and i think just logging things to get an idea of how many calories i eat a day has help although it isnt great for putting in home made food it only seems to have ready made stuff, but i just guess! anyway i lost 4 lbs i a week!! i feel so good that something actually happened. anyway just wanted to say hi :)

Hi Lucinad , thats a great start loosing 4lb :T. Are you following any sort of diet plan ?

I only started 7 days ago on the Harcombe diet so have about 2 stone to loose.

Hopefully we can all keep each other going :).

Pebpop: Subscribed to yor blog. I just started my first one too - its wierd atm as I'm only writting for two people but hoping in time the ball will get rolling.

Okay question for you all. I've never followed a specific diet, calorie counting is what works for me. However my mum has asked if I know a mediterranean style diet she could follow, anyone have any ideas? She's gluetin free largely anyway as it makes her feel ropey. She has about 3 stone she'd ideally like to loose in 6 months (wants to look good in my wedding pictures, I don't think my MIL2B being a size 6 helps much!), but anything would help. She's already lost about 4 stone on her own, which is fab.

    So, any ideas?

There was a program on BBC 1 late last night that in a light hearted way looked at how the sugar bureau pushes sugar on people, they even have a lose weight diet that involves eating the refined crap....

Funnily enough I had that on the tv as background noise when I was posting here last night. It was the look on the girl's face when she realised exactly how much sugar she ate every day when she thought she was chosing healthy options.

    lucinad Hello

Thanks Dinah - I'm always happy to have a new [STRIKE]stalker [/STRIKE]follower - although it's been a bit bare this week due to pc hassles. Let me know your blog address so I can do likewise.

I'm pleased to say that I managed a whole day of healthy eating yesterday!!

dinah - here are some links that I found for your mum to have a look at. Not sure if any are completely free, but I'm sure any free trial would give her a basic idea of what she could include on a meal plan. The basis is plenty of fish, fresh fruit and veg and olive oil methinks.

lucinad - welcome to our lovely thread. Keep posting, and you'll find all the help, advice, support and encouragement you could need. I use foodfocus too, but I put in my homemade recipes too. If you use the 'create meal' option, and then log the ingredients you can make a meal. I usually find you end up with a total for a whole recipe, but break that down (using a calculator) into 100g portion sizes. So for example, this last weekend I made some homemade chocolate muffins, but I wasn't sure how many calories were in them, so daren't eat one. I put in all the ingredients, divided it by 12 (I made a dozen) and it came out with a total of 360 calories per muffin. So I didn't have one! bah! :rotfl: I've done it for my homemade bread, yorkshire puddings, casserole, bolognese, etc. It takes a bit of time, but just try to remember the weights of things that you're adding into a recipe, or use a pair of scales where you can put the pan on top (I have a poundstretcher flat bed set which I use daily).

alliwant - you've done so well up till now, and it's natural that you'll reach a bit of a plateau after regular loss. I did the same last year. I lost 2 stone really quickly, and then nothing for about 3 months! I was getting really disheartened, but as soon as I cut down by about 100 calories a day, and upped my exercise it worked, and sometimes, if you've been on a really reduced calorie plan, sometimes upping the calories a bit, whilst exercising more can be a kick start too. See what works for you, but don't give up.

    - it's clear you are never going to get any common sense out of that workplace. And to think how desperate you were to get the job there! :o

Well, the sun is shining again here, and it is delightful. It actually makes me feel fidgety to get out and do something. I'm going to go for a mooch down the garden in a bit, and get cracking on some jobs.

    Have a great day everyone!:D

I'm not sure what day everyone weighs in as long as you're consistant and the chart (done by the Fab Fred) is posted on a Wednesday night. Just remember to post big and bold

Here's my blog peppop. As I say its very new!

I've been watching the 'What made me fat' show and it is interesting, but I do think she is a bit of a crusade. I didn't realise how much sugar was in some foods, but at the same time its all about balance, and I do agree with the view point that its all about balance. Yes I eat chocolate, but I eat a lot more fruit and veg, my dinner plate is about half veg, and a quarter meat and a quarter carbs, and its not a huge plate. And I'm a 10-12. I know not all people will be nutritionally aware (Lorraine Kelly's Big Fat Diet Challenge showed me that) but the majority know that eating 4 burgers and a 12 pack of crisps in a day is worse for you than a balanced meal, and I think shirking the complete responsibility onto someone, anyone else is the reason 1 in 3 UK adults are obese, there is always that excuse of 'well I was allowed to buy it'.
