Eric, do you have a source for this at all? I was of the understanding that sub 21-24% (depending on age) would generally be classed as underfat for females. This is the chart I usually refer to:
looks good
I seam to remember it was under 15% and you start to have the potential to have health issues0 -

Do you think having a cold makes you burn more calories? I've been a bit over the 1200 goal all week, due to the 2 packs of cough sweets and a couple of mini milks I've been packing away to soothe my throat, and weigh in this morning (going to do it properly tomorrow, this was just to prewarn me as I expected the worst) showed I've still lost 0.8lb. Its not the best but its in the right direction, but it just doesn't make sense!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off0 -
Hello all
I've been following this thread for a while now and finally thought it was time to post myself. It was my new years resolution to "lose weight and get healthy", but due to there being so many birthdays in January, including my own, and all those sweeties and chocs leftover from Christmas, I decided not to start until February!
I've just turned 20 and I'm 5'7. I ended up starting on the 28th of Jan when I was 12st 3lbs. I weigh and measure myself every Monday, and I keep track of it using FoodFocus.
I've completely cut out junk food, chocolate, crisps, sweets, fizzy drinks.. If I want a treat/snack, I have fruit or a yoghurt. Stocked up on tinned and fresh veg, and also extra lean mince beef, chicken breasts and white fish.
I also find the Heinz Weight Watchers frozen food range to be really yummy, and 5 for £5 in Asda atm!
My sister gave me her exercise bike that's been gathering dust in her spare room for a while, so that's been a great help. I bought some weights too, so I can start trying to tone up!
I've been using FoodFocus as a guide for my target cals, which is currently 1117 cals a day for a loss of 2lbs a week. I didn't think the exercise I was doing was burning much until I lost 7lbs in a week  so I'm trying to balance the combination of exercise & calorie intake so that I'm losing weight at a steadier pace.
I'm attending two weddings this year, so I'm using that as my motivation to keep on track- the first is in April and I know it'll be here in no time, aha.
I also found this when I was starting out and I find it's a complete inspiration- http://weight-loss.fitness.com/before-after-between/36490-mar-08-96kgs-212lbs-june-09-85kgs-188lbs-oct-09-63kgs-139lbs.html
I just keeping going back to look at it and it's just amazing. If you scroll down to the replies, she's posted some more photos and also information about her eating habits and exercise regimes.
Anyway, as of yesterday I weigh 10st 13lbs, which is a total loss of 1st 4lbs, and I've lost 5 inches from my waist. I've set a target weight of 9st 6lbs, but in all honesty, I've never been slim so I might be happy with my weight before I even reach that
Sorry for the long post, but I will be trying to post regularly on here!
Hi Natu - I'm a bit of a newbie around these parts too (although I've been a long time lurker!) and notice that our stats are quite similar. I'm 24 and 5'7", currently weigh 10st 10lbs but would like to get down to my ideal weight of 10st or below. Like you, the weight I'm currently at is the lightest I've been since my secondary school days. I think I'm generally quite good with a healthy diet/exercise, but ofcourse there's always room for improvement! Looking forward to reading your posts on here and maybe sharing advice0 -
hi natu! Welcome to our thread!
Right: food for today, not that different from yesterday:
green
B- 2x eggs on toast (HEB)
L- spinach, potato and pea vegan wrap ( this was in the uni cafe, i think the filling was all free foods (from what the menu said) but im going to syn the wrap as 6syns, eventhough it was wholemeal and seeded, i could only find values for a large white flour one...)
D- left over SW quiche and jacket potato (marg 3 Syns)
snacks/extras: fab ice lolly (4syns) peppermint and lemon tea.
total: 13synsshift the bulge! - 54lb lost so far :j .....alot more to go......:eek:0 -
Do you think having a cold makes you burn more calories?
Very possibly, Dinah! The reason we're advised not to exercise when we're not well, is because it diverts precious energy away from the body's healing process. So I guess it stands to reason that extra energy is being expended to fight off the lurgies. Hope you feel better soon!
Eric, when you look at typical body fat & muscle mass it IS almost like males and females are a different species I agree! The body composition & healthy ranges are completely different. The thing that amuses me on that chart is you can go to bed perfectly 'healthy' on the eve of your 40th & 60th birthday, and wake up 'underfat'!A good excuse to indulge maybe?!
Welcome new peeps! :wave:0 -
Hi I am a newbie to your thread, I am getting married soon (June 27th) and having just paid the wedding photographer rather a large amount of money I have decided I had better lose some weight so I can bear to look at the pictures he takes!!
I started on Tuesday 26th January weighing a scary 19stone on my 5 foot five frame. I always considered my self to be quite active but having had a really crap 2009 I found that I was eating far too much and the weight stuck.
I am doing the slimfast diet which I enjoy, and have lost 1 stone and 1lb at my weigh in tonight.
I know slimfast isn't for everyone but I find it easy to do whilst the rest of my world is a large bit crazy!!You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.0
