STS again for me this week. Right, that's it, time to take back some control here, I'm going back to Phase 1 principles of the diet & give myself a big kick up the a**e; I lost 5b in 5 days when I did this before so I should get something moving. That means no caffeine, no fruit, no wheat, no rice (except brown), no sugar, no cakes or biscuits, no cheese and no alcohol  for the next 5 days. So there!

I find that phase 1 always works, harsh but it works, I call it boot camp victory style, good luck with it and always remember it is only for 5 days;)

Hi Mirry and welcome to our lovely board!! :D

I am following the Harcombe Diet which is basically all about first of all finding out what foods you are intolerant to (which is the idea of the 5 day detox), then cutting these out plus all processed foods (e.g. brown rice not white, wholemeal pasta not white, etc) and not mixing fats & carbs in the same meal. It doesn't say cut out carbs altogether, it more like being careful when you eat them (e.g. one of my favourite dinners is wholemeal pasta with a lovely garlicky tomato sauce and my favourite lunch is a jacket potato with home-made hummus). The great thing is that there's no calorie counting or WW points or SW syns or RC fat grams etc - all of which I've tried in the past, all of which I've lost weight on and all of which I've regained the weight once I start eating "normally" again. Most people lose a lot of weight during the Harcombe detox and you can each as much as you like at any stage so long as you follow the rules; my problem lately is that since Xmas I've not been sticking strictly to the rules which is why my weight has plateau'd, so I'm going back for a detox to get myself losing again!

To answer your question, on the detox (Phase 1 of the diet) I can put any meat or fish with the brown rice, though tonight I'm just going to stir-fry it with veg.

Anyhoo, the important thing is to find the eating plan that works for you and suits your lifestyle; I work from home a lot so can prepare fresh meals for myself, others who are office-based (for example) might find they can only have a sandwich for lunch which would be a strict no-no for me. If you look around this board you'll find people doing all sorts of things to help themselves on their way - plenty of inspiration and ideas!! Enjoy and good luck on your journey :D

Hi everyone , hope you dont mind me joining in ?

Ive been struggling to loose weight for years now , start diets and never finish the job ( whats wrong with me ?).

I am taking 2 types of pills that cause weight gain and the hospital want me to go on a steriod which also causes weight gain - help !!!

So I am really serious about this task , I must loose weight for health reasons , I am only 5 ft 1" and weigh 11 stone . I used to be 7st 11 lb.

The past few days I have been doing the Wii game called
JUST DANCE. Its really good fun and is like a aerobic work out ,
without the boredom. I have had a small amount of porridge for breakfast made with water and sweetner. I am thinking of taking a photo of me fat and putting it on the fridge next to my old photos. Hopefully this will help.

One day at a time we will get there , thanks for reading.:)

    Welcome

There's nothing wrong with you, 99% of diets fail and result in the dieter putting the weight back on and often even more, its called the YO YO effect. The reason being is that people diet then get bored then go back to there old ways.

Unfortunately it has to be a lifestyle change, forever, which sounds terrible but its not really its just an adjustment to what you eat, how much and adding some exercise.

To be able to succeed you have to be happy in yourself and truely deep down want it, that's most of the fight.

Then just adjust what you eat, cut back heavily on all the crap (you know what it is) especially energy dense foods like fats and sugars (choccy ...) and do some exercise.

Wii fit and the Wii dance games are excellent, you want to be aiming for 30 mins 3 times a week (build up to it slowly over time) so that you are slightly out of breath most of the time and moderatly sweaty at the end

Yes, it's only for 5 days; some people report that they feel quite ill during the detox (which proves that its working); I got a slight headache for a couple of days but mostly I just got bored.....:p

thanks for the reply Hezza. Well that sounds like a great plan , I remember years ago I had a Hplyori infection in my stomach,
and had to eat only carbs on there own, or protein on there own and lost alot of weight. So I know this works and am really interested in learning more about it. Like you Ive tried alot of the other plans with no luck.

My main concern seems to be Sweet foods , I really seem to have a problem in this area. I will check it out now ;).

    1.2lb loss this week please.
I am stoked with that as it has been a rubbish week. Worked away at arenas all weekend so naff food there. But saying that, I was so busy that I only ate a little. :rotfl:
Plus throw in a concert on Saturday night and add in a hotdog and some ghastly fizzy drinks! But that was offset by the jumping around like a loony I guess (and the drooling over Mr Leto :o)

    Eric :T brilliant result there!

Well done to everyone else who lost or maintained!

Vix - people with a high body fat % can still fall into the 'healthy' BMI range, similarly muscular people with little fat (rugby players et al) can be 'obese' according to BMI scale. People in these groups are better off using body fat % as an indicator and ignoring BMI.

All body fat measurement methods have a degree of inaccuracy. Bioelectrical impedence (which is the one used by scales) is said to be accurate within 2-5%, they tend to overestimate body fat in lean muscular people and underestimate it by the same amount in overweight people. So the reading shouldn't normally be way off, unless the scales are faulty of course.

Make sure your body is well-hydrated when having the measurement as dehydration can cause a higher body fat % reading (skin temperature can affect it too). For home analyser scales it's usually recommended to take a reading with wet or damp feet to assist the current - guessing this is not the case in Boots though!?

Feel like going on a binge for a couple of weeks and starting again, this 1lb here and there is starting to annoy me now

And then you'll be starting again a stone worse off. Don't do it, who is winning by you pouring loads of crap into your body? Its just food, and the pleasure you get from eating it isn't as much as you'll get every day looking in the mirror and thinking how hot you look slim, and that you did that.

Another -1lb loss for me this week. Starting to see the up side of this cold!
