I saw a great article the other day (cant remember where) that said the key to healthy eating is to ask yourself "Would my grandma have eaten this??", if the answer is no then dont do it!!

Gonna have to question the logic to this, my G Ma wouldn't have eaten in a Michelin star'd restaurant, don't make it forbidden food, and if you go back down the time line you can remove

    potatoes
    chocolate
    cheese
    alcohol
    Dairy
    etc
and at about 250,000 years ago meat totally
  • Morning all!

Welcome to all the newbies (although I am pretty new myself!). Congrats to all the losers and STSers this week and good luck to those who haven’t weighed in yet.

I weighed myself this morning. Don’t really want to post but am taking a deep breath and telling myself I have to as need to start being accountable. I have gained another 3lb this week. :oI am now 11st 3lb (I’m 5ft 3). So, instead of losing weight this year and aiming to be under 10st by now, I have in fact put on half a stone since new year. I am now 2 and a half stone heavier than I was in June and am the same as I was when I was at my biggest back in 2004/05 (the size I vowed I would never go back to…).
I had been a size 10 since I think the beginning of 2006 until the end of 08 when I put on a few pounds (stress at work, beginning of depression) and went back up to size 12. Then I lost some in April/May/June last year to get down to 8st 12lb and a size 8/10. I had quite a serious period of depression last year (I was off work sick for 5 months as I just couldn’t function) and I have been steadily gaining weight since June/July, first needing size 12s, then 14s, and now even some 14s are getting tight. I feel horrible and unattractive, not to mention stupid and weak for lacking willpower. I am on some anti-depressants which one of the side effects is increased appetite and weight gain, but I don’t want to blame all the gain on the meds – need to take some responsibility and not keep making excuses. Other than being miserable about feeling fat I am generally a lot better now, so I’m wondering if maybe I should come off, or at least reduce, the dosage to see if it makes a difference. Am seeing the doc next week so will discuss it with him then. But even so, I feel like losing weight shouldn’t be this difficult. It’s not rocket science: I know what a healthy diet is like, I know I need to eat less in general and make healthier choices, and to exercise more. I just seem unable to actually put it into practice and therefore feel like a worthless failure. I’m sorry, I know that whining and beating myself up doesn’t help matters. Just felt the need to get it off my chest. And also I'm sorry to people who are bigger than me and probably think I shouldn't complain about being a size 14...but it's all about what you personally are comfortable with isn't it?

Right, today is a new day. Positive thoughts.
Sorry again for rambling and moaning.

I got 2 bikini bottoms for £1 from debenhams, tried on the bikini and oh do I look awful, I am fed up with my caved in face and the fact I have loose skin around the stomach so in a bikini I look awful, was going to go back to all in one but no that is only going backwards, the £1 spent has upset me:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::D

This is my biggest problem / worry, IF i am able to succeed this time, what am I going to do with the mountains of flappy skin I will end up with.

Adam Sandler had the same problem ..

  • Eric - each to his own, I'm not going to argue with you. Harcombe works for me, that's all. One of he biggest causes of obesity is processed food, none of which was around 50 years ago, so my Grandma would no more have eaten a WW ready meal than fly to the moon.

but should would have been able to eat corned beef, spam, margarine (18th century and is puke in a pot), powdered eggs etc and there where plenty of tinned foods including fish in oil :p

but i totally agree with you if it works and your happy go with it, i have always had this anoying habbit of questioning everything, drove my teachers nuts :)
