Unfair hotel charges

I recently stayed in a local hotel chain. It was a no smoking room and I made the mistake of smoking in the room. I later found out they have charged me £100 to clean the room - I know I was in the wrong but is there any way of getting them to drop or reduce the charges?

There is usually a notice to this effect in the room - was there?

As a non smoker who specifically books no smoking rooms I am glad to hear it cost you £100.
It should have been more.
SorryThere will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
You will probably see it on a notice in the room.
I do think that £100 is a bit over the top, but you took the chance.

Are you from Mars? There is no such thing as a smoking room in 99.99% of UK hotel rooms now, due to the smoking ban.
Why on earth would you think it would be okay to smoke in any hotel room?

Hotels are still allowed to offer smoking rooms.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I think you will find that you are wrong. Hotels rooms are classed as residencies and you are allowed to smoke in them (subject to the hotel allowing it) so it is not against the law, apparently it is the same with prison cells.iamana1ias wrote: »Are you from Mars? Smoking rooms are available (in some hotels) and they way they get round it is you must smoke in the room with door closed and nowhere else in the hotel. whilst you are in the room its classed as your home......or something like that.0 -
Really? I've stayed in numerous hotels (100+) since the ban came in and not one had a smoking room! I understood most had decided it wasn't worth the bother.
But I stand corrected
