Have you got Costco membership? If so you can buy the Panny SD253 for £67.xx inc VAT (it could be £76 though
but still a bargain). If you run a business could you not claim the VAT back as well
Costco are definitely the cheapest I've seen for this breadmaker.:smileyhea0 -
The end crusts are my favourite, but the inside seems a little rubbery. Anything I can do to remedt this?0

Another Morphy Richards Fastbake fan here
Although I must admit we're first time bread makers as well. Not sure what a tall loaf isTo me the fastbake loaf is a bit like an average farmhouse (or whatever you call them). It is a square type loaf rather than a long one.
It's not noisy at all
Not tried jam. But the bread doesn't last long with just butter on itI live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.0 -

Have been using the Panasonic SD253 for 3 years and its fab! The only time we had a duff loaf from it was when I forgot to put the paddle in and another when I removed the bread 40 mins before the end of the cycle!! So my money would be on this one. The recipes are sraightforward and its quiet. Worth every penny.0

Don't get the Morphy Richards. I'm on my second pan because the first one kept unlocking when the paddle turns to lie flat and it eventually broke on the bottom. I'd only had it a year and used it every day.
The replacement pan is now doing exactly the same. I've had the replacement less than 3 months.
My dad also has the Morphy Richards one and his pan is stuck in the machine.
We are not impressed!0 -
i love my MR fastbake
although the blade/paddle ALWAYS gets stuck - is that waht happened to you aeurby
? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
No Lynzpower.
When the paddle is turned backwards so it lies flat the pan is also unlocking with one heck of a racket. In the end it will break the bottom of the pan again. Also I can't actually get the paddle out of the pan but at least it doesn't get stuck in the bread
In my dads case the pan is stuck in his bread maker. He looking at getting the panasonic unfortunately I can't afford it!0 -
Thanks for the feedback. I've went for the MR Fastbake (£46.99 at Argos, plus I bought something else and got a £5 gift voucher for spending over £50!) and all seems well so far. The first loaf I made (because I didn't have any dried milk powder) was a bread mix which was very nice, but only rose about half way up the pan. Then I started with the basic recipes from the instruction book - the white loaf rose beautifully and had an usual, but appealing texture - almost like a crumpet! It was really nice toasted. Had the wholewheat this morning which rose just as well, was very light but was a little sweet for my taste. So I will now start experimenting with salt and sugar levels. All 3 loaves have been made overnight with no probs - it is very quiet, and the drop-down paddle is fantastic - there's still a small indentation in the bottom, but nowhere near as intrusive (for want of a better word!) as the old machine. I do find the outer crust is quite dark, so will try a 'light' crust in future. Finally, a very shallow point - the stainless steel finish looks great!
Having said all this, I suspect one breadmaker is not going to be enough to keep up with demand in the height of the season, so I may be tempted to get a Panasonic too. Maybe I'll wait till the New Year and see if any bargains drop in my lap!
My final investment will have to be a bread cutter as I'm cutting really thick doorsteps and will be the size of a house before too long!
Thanks again; happy baking!0
