Hi,
My breadmaker ceased up the other day, not sure why.
Anyhow, I tried to fix it and failed.
I've seen a few posts abouot Panasonic being the better ones.
I was looking at the 253 at £80. but I wonder what I would benefit from to make the additional costs worth while?
Thanks
GW

Here is a link to all the other breadmaker threads on Old Style. This question has come up in various guises so you'll probably find some useful information about which BM to get0

Its your call, but few people are disappointed with the Panasonic. Check Amazon prices - might shave a couple of pounds off,
I dallied with cheaper ones, but have been delighted with my Panasonic 253 - you also get a good selection of reliable recipes in the handbook too.
Have just sliced into a wheatmeal from mine - beautiful.
Good baking....

Just wondering if a breadmaker would be worth it for us.....how much do all the ingredients for a large loaf cost?

I look for the supermarkets that have BOGOF's on flour, yeast, powdered milk, marg/butter ect. This makes it much cheaper and I can make a large wholemeal or brown loaf in my SD253 for about 50p I reckon. My BM is on at least 5 times a week and has never disappointed me.

Don't forget that it's not just bread you can make - I've only had mine a week and as well as making a loaf a day we've had pizza twice, and a banana loaf. Because some of the recipies are so 'special' (Eg apricot and walnut) little more was needed than a bit of chicken and simple salad, and my normally starving brood were quickly satisfied!
I'm looking forward to trying Naan bread as we like to have a homemade curry and I know that buying fresh naan bread to make it 'special' was seriously bumping up the cost of our 'family feast'.
I did stretch to the panasonic and can honestly say I've no regrets - it's turned out perfect loaves every time - even when I used an out of date bread mix that I got cheap!! (Mind, I was forewarned to reduce the ammount of water for a panasonic by about 15 -20ml!)
Kaz xJanuary '06 Grocery Challenge (4th - 31st) £320.Week 1 - £73.99 Week 2 £5.10 (so far)
Someone burst my bubble and I lost the plot so no idea what I spent now...Other Jan :- Petrol £20.41, Clothes £8.50, House £3.I will try to work it out.

Panasonic 253 - it has to be!
I've used mine 81 times this year including 65 loaves. (no idea why i'm keeping count but I am). I do not care about the cost of the loaves I make, i'm just happy I know they do not contain a load of crap.
I would highly recommend the Panasonic and it's usually cheapest on Amazon.0 -
Rebob, remember making your own may not even be cheaper.... but its fresher and healthier with less aditives etc.
You choose how much salt/sugar to add. You can add your own choice of seeds etc.

I bought the Panasonic 5 weeks ago, since then I have not bought any shop bread. I make rolls for our lunches (4 of us), bread (all different kinds), fantastic stollen, calzone, pizza and naan bread. I love it and I always take a loaf with me when I go and visit friends - cheaper than flowers and far more personal!0
