Re the prospective tenants - You just never know what it is that puts people off, don't forget they are probably looking at other places too and may find something thats more *them*, just like you found the house that was just right for you. Carry on thinking positive.

    True, thanks Gill :)

We've just been round - it has such a nice feel and the lovely lady who we bought it from has left it spotlessly clean. According to the EA, the other set of keys are with the vendor's family member and were due to be posted today - they weren't there, so first job will be to change the locks....

I've convinced DH to leave it tonight and we'll do some trips tomorrow. My back is aching - probably due to humping 4 x 60L bags of bark chippings to and from the car today :o:o:o
  • I am so pleased that everything went so well with your dream house in the end and that you are starting to me in - I love moving house although we haven't moved in almost 12 years now but before that we moved loads.

Wishing you and your wonderful family health, wealth and happiness in your new home

Thank you DT :kisses3: I think it will be a special house for us and as it will be the children's childhood home, it will be full of happy memories.

So today, we are emptying the dining room, then the cellar, then the attic. Then I have to whizz round before 4pm to make the house look pristine before the viewings.
Sounds really simple when it's in a sentence, doesn't it?! :rotfl:

More importantly, I need to drink plenty and eat properly today ready for tomorrow. We need to organise a packed lunch, but not too much as DH will be carrying it all plus my clothes to change into after the race. I'm really looking forward to it, but am not prepared. My head has only been "house"
First, I'm going to DIY wax my legs, do a mini pedi, then later start applying some Dove self tan. It gives a bit of colour without an obvious fake tan look - though once I'm 8 miles in - I doubt I'll care! :D

A kind friend is coming to collect the girls this morning to take them to ballet, then she's dropping them at another friend's for a couple of hours. SO they'll be out of the way and having fun.

I did spent £33.85 yesterday from the joint pot on much needed garden tools - cheapest possible and 4 bags of bark chippings (my back's not thanking me for that)

Right, must shake a leg - have a good day :)

Macgirl, are you setting up a seperate current a/c for the rental place, it can be the easiest way to do the accounts etc for tax. All rental income in and all expenses out from the one a/c, OK you might have to do occasional transfers in/out for odd items, but basically you just need a folder to put all the invoices/receipts in for anything you spend on it, and they should match the items in the account.

Hope you find nice tenants soon.

    Enjoy your new house :)

With changing locks etc., we change the locks, but keep the old barrels/keys for the next move or two later :) Yes we did move a lot. But they can be handy to pass onto friends moving house anyway.
  • Maybe I'm too blase but I wouldn't change the locks. I would save the money. And I think that if anyone entered the house without 'breaking in' then the police would instantly know the culprit so the previous owners would be fools to do this?

Hope today goes well and is productive and good luck for tomorrow, I really admire you for continuing with the GNR right in the middle of your move, thats fantastic, go girl x

Already done! :) It's with our joint one so same login and easy to keep tabs on. I've joined Landlord Zone so am trying to gen myself up on all the Do's and Don'ts....

Thanks KM, yes Dh said much the same thing - save the money (if only I'd always listened to him :o)

As for the GNR - I am really looking forward to it - it will feel like a rest after today! :rotfl:

We've taken 2 van loads and put boxes in their respective rooms, so we feel like we've broken the back of it and that Thursday will not be as stressful now. I've been grinning like a Cheshire Cat all day! I LOVE it!!! :D

Just waiting for the viewers now. It was a miracle that we managed to get this place shipshape in time, but it looks loads bigger and better without all our junk (which incidentally looks like we have nothing in the new house as it's so big! :j)
