Michelin Energy Tyres

Just on the not being a boy racer therefore fine with cheap tyres front...
I put cheap tyres on the back to save £20 a wheel, turned on a roundabout I do everyday which has a flat bit of tarmac and one of those flat manholes, slid the back right out at only 20mph, left me nearly mounting the roundabout kerb.
Took them back, paid the £20 extra and got michelins, do the roundabout again (and everyday m-f since) and not a hint of slide.

I agree. I'd quite happily see their sale restricted in this country.0 -
And me. I drive quite frugally anyway, so I didn't think tyres made all that much difference.. until one day I misread an unfamiliar corner and ended up spinning round it 360 degrees. Fortunately it was 3am and I was the only !!!!!! around.
Took the cheapo tyres off that day and had my Conti's fitted and kept doing the same corner from 30mph up to 60mph (originally took it at about 50mph - far too fast anyway), and still the Conti's didn't grumble once. Just went where I pointed.
Don't skimp on your road rubber. It's the only bit of the car keeping you attached to the road.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

That reminds me of my Dads Honda Accord. It was about 10 years old and he kept it because about 10 people were insured to drive it and it was always in demand. I saw a special offer at Kwik Fit for 4 x 185/70/14 tyres made by Debica. Total cost £100 including fitting and balancing.
Everyone who used the car said that the tyres were grim. Then I saw an Auto Express review which rated the Debicas as the lowest in wet braking, wet cornering and aquaplaning. The man without a signature.0 -
So what sort of mpg savings are we talking about here?0

If you know anyone who has a Costco card, ask them to ring and check the price for you.
As previously mentioned, speed rating must match the manufacturer's specifications otherwise you could have insurance problems.0 -
I am getting some of the Primacy HP (High Price) tyres from Costco when I go in a couple of weeks time.
205/50/16 87W they are are.
They are £128 each, minus the 20% discount offer they have its down to £103 each. black circles want £141.96 as a reference.
The Primacy will be more £ than the energy ones. so maybe that's gives an idea.
I have found that Michelin at Costco are very competitively priced even against Blackcircles etc. Take into account the 20% reduction and its a steal for quality tyres.
I could get some other brand tyres for about £80 each but I am prepared to spend more on the only thing in contact with the road.0
