At least now, you should only have to reboot the router, not the pc.

I said it earlier,a nd I'll say it again - it's a line/exchange fault. The symptoms wilco is experiencing are exactly the same as mine were before I went through the fault reporting process, line monitoring, and finally rectification by having the copper pair replaced from the MDF in the exchange all the way through to the entry point at my house. For the full story, it's here:-
    http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=168871

wilco, now you have a router, you're not turning it off at night, are you ?? You shouldn't, as you'll never get a constant sync. Only reboot the ROUTER if you really need to if the error floods happen. Rebooting the pc will not help.

Also, have you bought a router that's compatible with the DMT tool or routerstats ??
    See here:-

    and here:-

either of these are invaluable in terms of monitoring your line's behaviour so you can show pipex tech support how your line's behaving, which in turn will help them to help you by getting the right engineering bods out to sort you out.

I seriously suggest if they have a tech support web forum similar to tiscali's, you will probably be better off dealing with them (tiscali's lot are uk based and more techie than the call centre bods).

Have a read through my tiscali thread, find pipex's web support forum, and get DMT/Routerstats to monitor your line....any q's, just ask :)

Thanks GunJack - I am aware to leave the router on to get a constant sync and, yes, don't have to reboot the PC now - just the router if the line becomes unusable. Only problem is, like this evening, I lost the line speed so many times I had to keep rebooting just to use it! Played havoc with my on-line gameplay!!! I am also keeping a record of speeds after reboot and then when they disappear which should evidence the fault.

What is interesting, and I am not sure if relevant but it was mentioned earlier in the thread, when my noise margin is around 11.00db the stability is fine but when the line becomes unstable and slow the noise margin drops to around 9.00db?

I will have a read through your threads and other info, it's all interesting stuff but how do I get it through to these people who just seem to read from scripts and want to get rid of you???

Lets see what they say when they get back to me tomorrow...
  • Hi Guys,

what is a tracert, netstat and pathping - run through the cmd prompt? Pipex have just asked me to do that and send result to them with speedtest.net results from last 24 hours...

open a cmd prompt - Start - Run, type cmd and enter, you get the command prompt box up. type, for example, "tracert www.bbc.co.uk" without the quotes and press enter. It will show the connection steps between your pc and the destination web address. Similar for ping, just sub ping for tracert in the above, but shows if the data is arriving at the selected destination. netstat <enter> shows your connectivity to your router from your pc.

As always GunJack, thank you, however - I should have made my post clear. I have run the tests and submitted but wondered what they did (the reason etc)...
  • Today is a good day :j

After a week of talking to Pipex tech support (and just one argument) they seem to heve resolved my issue. I have now had a stable connection for 3 days. Seems they increased the SNR and the line is much more stable.

Wanna thank all the guys who contributed to this thread - without your help, advice and external links I think I would still be going around in circles with them.
