Indeed, we don't know what contract OP is on or (without trawling back ) whether they are LLU.

Earlier post just says Pipex Homecall, LLU.

    from kitz's line speed estimation....

    42 dB line could give

    6496 kb/s on DSL MAX

    8288 kb/s on 21CN and ADSL2+ LLU

and if I remember correctly, these are based on a 6dB SNRM

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Yes and he is running 10dB at the time the stats were recorded so there is nothing to suggest there is a problem with the line or internal wiring (and with a filtered faceplate the internal wiring is isolated anyway).

The fact that the problem is cleared by rebooting the computer as stated in the very first post is suggesting that the problem doesn't lie with the line.

Yup, an extra 4dB off his snrm would put him pretty much spot-on that estimated sync speed

Try using Tuneup Utilities (free for 30 days trial) to tweak your computer to match your line speed and see what results you get....useful bit of kit :)

Hi all, wow... you have all been busy this afternoon discussing this - I am very grateful.

To clarify a couple of the points - I am on standard ADSL upto 8mb using Speedtouch USB 330 Modem. I have installed the latest drivers and set the modem to line speeds above 4mb.

The diagnostic test I ran, and posted earlier, was when the broadband was fine and not registering errors. I have now just logged on again and am getting loads (evening syndrome as I posted earlier). Here is a new log for you to pour over...

    DSLUptime= 466ErrorredSeconds= 3LossOfFraming= 3LossOfLink= 0LossOfSignal= 3PhysicalLinkStatus= UpReceiveAttenuation_dB= 42ReceiveMargin_dB= 9RxOutputPower_dBm= 0SendAttenuation_dB= 21SendMargin_dB= 18TotalBytesReceived= 1483947TotalBytesSent= 331727TotalPacketsReceived= 1142TotalPacketsSent= 1142TxOutputPower_dBm= 0Uptime= 466ChannelMode= FastLayer1DownstreamMaxBitRate= 5376000Layer1UpstreamMaxBitRate= 576000WANAccessType= DSL

Don't know if this info will shed any new light (I must admit your conversations are now getting a little technical) but I would love to pin this down so... keep going and... cheers again...

Are you plugged into the test socket, and checked that any extensions are disabled.

I thought the ADSL / BT filtered faceplate isolated the broadband anyway... is this not the case?

    All extensions are disabled

This should be the case but there is no harm in confirming this. Do you not have any extensions then?

You talking about phones, sockets or telephone extension leads? No phone extensions or extension leads. I have many a phone extension socket in the house - which is why the ADSL / BT filtered faceplate was installed in the first place.
