The stats that are most useful are:

Download: Speed (kbps), Line Attenuation(dB), Noise Margin(dB)
Upload: Speed (kbps), Line Attenuation (dB), Noise Margin (dB)
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Hi penrhyn, does this give you any 'out of the ordinary' stats? I think this contains the info you mentioned...

But you haven't done those things yet (change filters and plug into test socket)-have you?

Right macman, lets pin down what I have eliminated...

Modem (have updated drivers & tried a different modem)
Cable (have tried an alternative cable from wall to modem)
Filters (have removed filters as they are not required - I have an ADSL / BT dual socket faceplate)
Master Socket (as above, have an ADSL / BT dual socket faceplate - will the broadband work from the master socket using standard filter/splitter?)
USB port on computer (have tried the modem in all ports)

The only things left (unless I have missed anything) are:
Actual computer (I can try with another PC and will do)
ADSL / BT wall socket (however, isn't this the master socket and BT/Pipex responsibility?)

What have I missed, what do I still need to check?

I think you covered everything there....good idea to use another PC for a final test if you can.
The master socket test must be done from the BT test socket behind the faceplate (not just by plugging into the 'outside' socket). That will isolate it from your internal wiring. You are allowed to do that, and indeed Pipex will ask you to test that before they will pass it over to OpenReach.

Thanks macman, I understand the master socket and where it is behind the faceplate but will this work from my type (ADSL / BT) of socket? ie: should I run the broadband from this master socket using a standard filtered connection?

I would submit the fault in writing either by email or, better yet, through the faults section of their website.

They'll probably ask you to jump through a load of hoops and it might take several days but it is still a lot better than trying to deal with anyone over the phone.

This method is from a standard BT NTE5 master socket. The one with a horizontally split faceplate, I'm not sure what you have behind yours. There is no need to filter anything, because you would have no phones plugged in once the internal wiring is isolated. ADSL filters filter the phone, not the broadband.

OK from the information provided your Line Stats are

    Download
    Speed 5792Kbps
    Attenuation 42db
    Noise margin 10dB
    Upload
    Speed 576Kbps
    Attenuation 21dB
    Noise Margin 18 dB

You are synchronising with the exchange at 5.7 Mbps, with your line attenuation you could reasonably expect to sync at 10Mbps.
I suspect your problem could be down to your frog modem which if I recall has problems syncing much faster unless you have the latest drivers. So I'd repeat my suggestion that you get a router from your ISP.
Retake your router stats whilst plugged into the test socket as previously suggested.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

The Speedtouch 330 is ADSL only - it can never sync above 8Mbps.

The sync looks fair for that attenuation on plain ADSL.

We don't know what Pipex service the OP is on, but I'm assuming it is ADSL Max only? So even with a decent router he's not going to get above say 6.5MBps at very best.
