    Yum!!!!!!!!!!!
  • With all the talk about soups, I'm sitting here with a bucketful (well a very large mug) of butternut squash soup that is utterly delicious and totally syn-free (not to mention easy-peasy to make)

    1 large butternut squash
    1 large onion
    2 pints water
½ tspn curry powder (I used Balti spice blend)
    ½ tsp ground ginger
    2 heaped tspns chicken Bovril

Peel, de-seed and chop the squash into 1” chunks.
    Microwave for 10 mins.
Dry fry the chopped onion in Fry Light for 2 mins.
Add curry powder & ginger & cook for a further 1 minute.
Stir in the cooked squash and add the Bovril mixed with 2 pints of boiling water.
Bring to the boil, and then simmer for 15 mins.
    Puree in blender and serve.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Mmm! Deffinately going to try that one!
  • oh ive never seen High Fibre ones! Only whoelgrain or original. I want 7 lol!

EDIT - have checked the ryvita website, and there isnt a high fibre version! lol there is orginal, or wholegrain which the SW says is 6. I am so confused now!

Sorry about that, they must have discontinued it, there did used to be a high fibre one, I bought it quite often. I wonder if they've changed the name to 'Wholegrain' and changed the recipe a bit too. I would stick with having 6 :)

I joined Slimming world yesterday for the first time and just wanted to double check the extra easy plan. I am exclusively breastfeeding my 4 month old so the consultant advised me that I would need four additional healthy extras and to try and use all 15 syns every day. Is this true even on the extra easy plan? I have tried it today and I honestly couldn't face 6 healthy extras and only managed 9 syns?

    Help!

Until you start to wean your baby you should indeed, be having an extra 4 HEs, two of which should be from the A list (extra calcium is vital). The extra HEb are not really necessary if you're having a varied diet. They are really there to ensure you get enough to eat to keep your energy levels high.

Once baby is being weaned, you can cut the extras down to 3 if you wish and once he/she is 6 months and eating a variety of extras so that you don't have to bf so often, you can cut down to 1 extra HEA.

As long as you're eating a variety of healthy food and you're feeling full and well, there's no need to force the syns down. They're there to ensure you don't feel deprived if you fancy a couple of biscuits with your coffee etc, but do please try and have the HEAs.

PS: in case you didn't know, one of the most calcium-rich foods is sardines canned in tomato sauce. 100gms of them has more calcium than your 350mls skimmed milk so if you don't like dairy foods you can still get all the calcium you need.

There isn't a starbucks near me but the city im going to with a friend for my birthday there is and I heart starbucks and would like to have a birthday treat. Does anyone know the syn value of Chai lattes? (I'll be asking for a small one with skimmed milk) and any kind of biscuit/cake/muffin or cookie that's not very high in syns?

    Stef

Sadly there's very little that you can have in Starbucks that's not very high in syns (in the cake/biscuit line).

If you have your latte skinny and small, you could count it as a HEA (don't add syrups or you'll have to count syns), but the lowest syn biccy I can find is the almond biscotti which are 219 calories for one, making it in the region of 11 syns  and the skinny lemon poppy seed muffin is 390 cals (about 19 syns).

If I were you I'd declare your birthday a flexible syn day - allow yourself as many syns as you think you'll need (include everything you will want to eat and drink)) and just enjoy it. The following day get straight back on track. It will not spoil your slimming campaign, just delay it by one day.

Enjoy and Happy Birthday when it comes :)
