    Hi

Just back from the docs and he has told me to give up slimming world and not eat anymore that 1000 calories a day. I'm so upset. He may as well have said you're a big fat pig get a grip.

i posted the full details here -

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2198689

This will make your problem worse by altering your metabolism and making it even harder to lose weight. Your body requires nourishment at regular intervals in order to keep your extremities warm and your internal organs working properly.

I'm sorry to say it, but I think your Doctor is a pillock!!!!!!!:mad:

There are literally dozens of Doctor's surgeries all over the country who have agreed that Slimming World meet the criteria set out by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The poster further back who suggested that SW promote 'food combining' is wrong. Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plans encourage members to eat plenty of highly satiating foods while controlling the intake of energy dense foods. The plans encourage people to freely eat plenty of fresh food like pasta, potatoes, lean meat and fish, eggs and plenty of fruit and vegetables and very low fat yoghurt. Members are also encouraged to eat limited amounts of dairy, high fibre breads and cereals, dried fruit and nuts and to cut down on high fat, sugary foods and alcohol.

1000 calories a day is not healthy and will certainly have an effect on your metabolism. If it were me, I would refuse point blank to see that particular GP again. Ask to be referred to someone else, you don't have to take bad treatment for granted, you can always report that GP to the GMC - his attitude stinks

Have posted this same response on the SW forum for you and other members on there who may be worrying on your behalf.

    Afternoon All,

Well, I had a hell of a day. Driving to SW this morning and hit a patch of black ice, spun the car right off the road, up onto a high verge and skidded around 180 and ended up stopping a foot from he brick wall of a barn conversion. I've never had an accident before and was so scared.

After all that I got to SW to find I've lost 5.5lbs this week - first week. Its a great loss but I'm still gutted as the friend I am going with has less to lose than me and she lost 6.5lbs. Made me even more determined to get the stepper out from under the stairs.

I'm half tempted to treat myself to some custard tonight, I have another week will WI and and SO cold here, its taken me ages to type this as my fingers dont want to work!!!

    Al x

Well done, that's a fantastic weight loss. I had to laugh when I saw that you're not completely chuffed at this loss.......your friend is different, has a different body with different ways of processing the food you've eaten. Please don't compare yourself to anyone else, you're off to a brilliant start, just keep building on it.

If you have the custard tonight, how will you feel in the morning? Is it liable to make you feel a failure or will you think of it as your ONE weekly treat? If you think you'll regret it tomorrow, don't do it. You can (very gently) heat a Mullerlight Vanilla and pour it over a chopped banana to simulate custard and it's free (or almost, depending on whether we ever get the syn value of Mullerlights sorted).

Firstly, have to say I totally agree your Dr sounds like he's mkaing it up as he goes along. Your body starts hoarding the fat in any food you eat if you start eating so very little. Your metabolic rate will start to slow down making it even harder for you to loose weight. Is this Dr the only one in the practise? Is there another Dr there that you could go to for a 2nd opinion?

Secondly - Whats the SW forum consultant 31??
    WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbs
    Weight today = 17st 6.5lbs
    Loss to date 32.5lbs!!!
  • this thread moves fast!

First of all just read BoltonAngel's full post - do you all realise this is a woman with a BMI of just over 26??? If she's got such a big weight problem that it's affecting her health then I may as well just buy the coffin now :)

Skintcatt aqua aerobics is absolutely FAB! Sadly they stopped running it at my local pool last year because the instructor ended up taking some time out but I loved it. I have to say too the clientele it attracted was generally older and heavier and exclusively female :) so I felt totally comfortable there - I would have been probably 12.5 stone when I started going which is pretty tubby at 5.2 and there were def bigger women than me there. On the swimsuit issue you are underwater for most of it, at least from the waist down. It was a surprisingly good work out too. I'd suggest getting a swimsuit with good bra support though because you do jump about a bit and it's nice not to feel you're creating a wave :) I also have knee problems which were particularly bad at that stage which is why I started going, and it was the perfect environment for doing some gentle rehab. Aqua jogging might also be worth trying although I haven't got around to it yet myself :) Sorry you're feeling so miserable by the way but I'd bet it's just one of those odd things that bodies do and you'll lose twice as much next time.

Hope everyone else is doing well :)

Hi Dont how to start a new thread or if I have done right by replying. Sorry text has changed on its own. i am new to slimming world first weigh in tomorrow and i think I have done Ok.

My questiion is how to work out how many syns a product is I am looking for Ainsly Harriots Chocolate Caramel Bars I wasnt going to eat it just curious how many syns.

Going to web site Ainsley Harriot comes up but not the biscuit. So I thought I would try and work out the syns but how. I go to the section to do it but bisuits are not there to look at I did expect to have to put in some info and it would then work out the syns for me but for the life of me I cannot get my head around it

If anyone can give me some help with this I will be very gratefull. This thread is great I have read quite a few pages and the support is very helpfull

    Thanks Annied

Hi and welcome to the thread. You don't need to start a new thread - all Slimming World life is here :D

If you want to use the syns calculator, go into the drop-down box on the lefthand side of the Lifeline Online page. Click on the syns calculator and decide whether there is a free food allowance. If there is click on the type of food you want to calculate and continue. In the case of biscuits etc, there will be no free food allowance, so continue to the next page.

Here you will find the spaces to fill in from the nutritional panel of the food you want to know about. Input the requested information and click calculate. The info you will be given is not always 100% correct, but it will give you an idea of what you could or couldn't eat within your syn value.

Hope this helps. Look forward to hearing about your weight loss tomorrow :)

    OMG!!! 26!

My BMI is 35 - I can imagine what that Dr would say to me - "no more than 400 calories a day!"

    That's ok - that's 40 x 10cal soups pmsl!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I will try Aqua Aerobics then as soon as I find out about my college course. Sods law of course is then that I start everything, get busy and suddenly find a bloody job, lol! (Well fingers crossed anyway!)

    Hi

Thanks for that and yours too BelfastGirl.

Well, after crying from 11am until 3pm I decided that I had to do something as I was literally sick from crying which I have never been before.
I had to pick my eldest ds up from school with big puffy eyes, i looked (and felt!) like i'd been punched in the face.

I got home and the kids wanted feeding. Initially I wasn't going to bother with anything for myself as tbh I don't even know what the 1000 calories the GP recommended relate to, ie. how many cals in a jacket potato etc.
When I saw the kids eating I got mega hungry so thought sod it I'm eating! so I made a tomato sauce with pasatta, courgettes, onions, carrots ,mushrooms and garlic- layered it over two lasagne sheets and baked. yum!

I know the doc said to stick to 1000 cals but I don't know how and in my previous experience sw works, so if it's not this time there really must be an underlying problem.

BelfastGirl- I am now getting angry as you suggested :rotfl:and WILL be seeing a different GP once the results come in. I will also mention the fact that the gp i saw today took a personal call on his mobile during my consultation!
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!

I've been doing EE and will continue I think - can still have my pasta & beans but of course these are free foods not superfree which I need to concentrate on so am trying not to have them.

Don't cut these foods out though. You should be having a good mix of all foods, not just superfree. Try to aim to have something different for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day for a week. This way you'll get lots of different foods and there's less risk of getting bored.

Have you thought about following the 7 day plan which is on the website? This should give you the very best start on EE and if you follow it exactly, you know for a fact you'll do as well as possible :)

Sorry, can't help with the grapefruit - I hate the things with a passion :(
