consultant31 wrote: »There are lots of reasons why members might not have lost weight in a particular week. Each of these common reasons is unlikely to ruin a member’s weight loss on their own - but one or two together on a regular basis would.Using heaped instead of level spoonfuls. Believe it or not, flour is 3½ Syns per 20g level tablespoon - a heaped tablespoon is double!
If I ever need a level 'something or other' I always count a heaped as 2 lots of level - sometimes it's easier like with syrup etc! Maybe I should count it as 3 lots? Not trimming/draining off the fat from meat, or taking the skin off chicken - it adds Syns to what could be completely Free and unlimited food!
I hate fat on meat & always take skin off as I find it disgusting to eat. The bacon is hard to resist but I do now and OH always comments that I leave the best bit!Pre-frying vegetables for omelettes, chillies or curries etc. Remember, 1 level tablespoon of fat or oil is 6 Syns!
I only have frylight in the house.Yorkshire puddings - 3 Syns per ounce! Most are 2 ounces, and remember to include the fat in the roasting pan - this can bump it up to 8 Syns per pud!
I don't eat yorkie puds - not worth the syns as I could eat a trayful!Pasta on an Original day - 5 Syns per ounce before cooking, 1½ Syns per ounce after cooking. Beware! Fresh pasta (as opposed to dry) on a Green day may need to be counted as Syns. Check it out!
I don't have pasta or rice on an original day. 3 pieces of penne isn't worth turning the gas on for!"Forgotten" regulars, eg a small glass (142ml) of orange juice for breakfast (2½ Syns). Do you write it down?
I write down everything that passes my lips (and overestimate syns sometimes) as I have my book/food diary in my handbag wherever I go! Don't drink fresh juices as I know they're not free!Sugar or milk in tea or coffee - it really adds up! Beware, vending machine drinks have Syns and takeaway hot drinks are even higher! Eg a skimmed milk Latte can add up to 8 Syns or more!
I've never taken sugar in tea (yuck!) and drink coffee once a month and then I use splenda. The once a month is usually a stop at Costa with OH but I mostly have fruit/normal tea as I don't think a latte is worth syns when I'm not that keen on coffee anyway!Buying your sandwiches? Hidden mayo, coleslaw and cream cheese fillings could add as much as 12 Syns!
I don't buy sarnies!Using full cream or semi-skimmed milk? Remember, per pint the Syn values are: full cream = 18½ Syns, semi-skimmed = 13 Syns, skimmed = 9½ Syns, and for a dash of milk in a cuppa: 1½ Syns, 1 Syn or ½ Syn respectively.
Only use skimmed milkEating out? Check for butter on the vegetables or hiding in sauces. If you don't want to count it, just ask for your meal without.
yeah this is the dangerous area, but we're trying not to eat out at all now - easier now OH works away 5 days a week! No takeaways either!Guessing weights of Healthy Extras or Syns. (An extra ½oz of bran flakes each morning can add an extra 3 Syns each day!)
I only guess if there really isn't any other option (maybe twice a week?) and then I always double them!Thinking that breakfast cereals like Rice Krispies are Healthy Extras – they don’t have enough fibre to be a Healthy Extra, and they’ll add 5½ Syns per 1oz/28g!
Don't eat cereal!Swapping granary or white bread as a Healthy Extra. Just one thin slice can be 4½ Syns – and if you slice your own, that can increase to a whopping 8-10 Syns!
Don't eat bread except for 3 wholegrain Krisprolls occasionally!Guessing your milk allowance. A splash of milk in each cup of tea or coffee – ½ Syns each – and on your breakfast cereal – without measuring - could see you adding an extra 3 or more Syns.
I only use a max of 2 cups of tea worth a day (I don't drink hot drinks when OH away) but always mark down that I've had my HEa of milk so way more than enough.
I know it looks like I'm making excuses - but I needed to go through them one by one. I really do appreciate everyone's help & support and sorry I'm being mardy again! Just want to do well and no idea how to anymore
Lost 0.5lbs this morning (and got SOTW because no-one made it to WI last week!) but gutted with that (need min 1lb a week and haven't done that for about 9 weeks) as I've eaten salads & fruit right through the snow when I could have died for pasta & beans
Had already made my mind up to have a couple of scan bran a day for the next week - I have a pack & a half and can always grab more from H&B or my consultant as she's only a few doors up from me! Worth a try and I can have 1 scan bran per dairylea triangle!:o0 -

Just back from the docs and he has told me to give up slimming world and not eat anymore that 1000 calories a day. I'm so upset. He may as well have said you're a big fat pig get a grip.

I'm fairly sure 1000 calories a day isn't healthy so I'm shocked at your Dr!!! I thought 1200 was the minimum your body needed without going into starvation!!!! :eek:0 -

Congratulations on your loss :beer::T
Where do you get scan brans from? Ooops just seen H&B I guess that is Holland and Barrett? What are scan brans like?
Also if you fancy pasta and beans, why not do green days and have them0 -
Hey all - WI in this morning and I gained 0.5 lb. TBH not too worried - still totm AND I know I ate too much last week. I'm going to go back to green/red days cos I just prefer it.
Having said that, my clothes all look better and feel better on me - and I have been known to go up by 7lbs or more on a star week. I always panic, think it won't come off, and then it 'magically' disappears the next week!
Hang in there everyone xxOnward and upward - with the odd step to the side

I keep hearing a password mentioned
I am doing it online so have a log-in username and password to access the site. Is this what the group password also gives access to or is it something different?
Sorry but dont want to be missing out on something0 -
'Cause green days don't do anything for me - but then neither does EE/red!
I've been doing EE and will continue I think - can still have my pasta & beans but of course these are free foods not superfree which I need to concentrate on so am trying not to have them.
Yes. H&B is holland & barratt - SW classes also sell scan bran/oat bran.0 -

Hi SC, dont want to lose form here, but maybe if you give WW a try and you lose, then you know whether its SW not working for you anymore of something else. Plus that small change in eating habits may kick start your body again. They have a special offer through quidco so I think its free just now for 3 months.
Then you can go back to SW again once your heading in the right direction again.
As I said we really dont want to lose you form this thread as your a good laugh and very helpful.
Just dont go down the lighter life/cambridge diet route.
Im considering doing Scottish slimmers again for a few months. I think more to get over the mental block I seem to have. I need to stop saboutaging my good work when I get to a certain stage. i will then appreciate the SW plan as im hungrier on Scottish slimmers.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
Hang in there, Skint Catt. I really believe you are going to have a really good result some time soon.
I do hope I'm right because I get the feeling you're at the end of your tether, you poor thing!
I have had rocky moments with SW (not blaming the diet, just saying)....I still can't believe I've finally lost a stone and nobody has commented on my weight loss for example! Also, I failed miserably at any of my mini targets so far. Well, I say failed. I mean I did 100% and still never met them, which is even worse.
But the difference between me and you is that I can (and have had to) abandon all targets and just think "I'll get there when I get there!" whereas I know you want to look stunning for your wedding day. I understand your high expectations. If I were getting married I'd want to look my best too.
I'm just saying, I really feel for you. I'm sorry I don't have any concrete advice but as I've said before, I would really miss you if you defected to a different diet. Don't go!0 -
Oh gosh, the 3 boys I work with have all just walked in with chips from the chippy! And I'm sitting here with my salad! I'm very restrained though, said no to them when offered
