    Hi :0
Please can someone explain to me how the slimming world diet works? i have read posts mentioning 'green' days, and 'free' yogurts etc, and EE days.. and haven't a clue what it means!
I dieted with R.Conley a couple of years ago, and lost 3 stones, but have since put it all back on again and now have a really bad knee, so am thinking of slimming world because there is no point me spending my money on an excercise class when i can't join in!

ASre there any deals on at the moment/ is it expensive to join?
Thanks in advance to anyone able to help me on my first step to shifting about 4 stones! <daunted!>

The thing about SW is that a lot of your common 'healthy' foods you don't have to weigh or count. The red plan seems to me to be designed with meat eaters in mind, all your lean meat is 'free' as well as all your veg and fruit (pretty much). On the green plan, all your pulses and a lot of your veggie foods (eg tofu) are free and again veg and fruit. TBH I haven't got to grips with EE myself being mostly a green kinda gal.

For me the big issues are being very careful with dairy and bread - you are allowed 4 healthy extras per day, split into two different categories, and for me one category is basically milk and cheese and one is bread. So no more than 2 slices of bread (I eat decent bread) and no more than 28g cheese and 350ml skim milk. But that's just the way I do it, instead of bread you could have a cereal or various other things.

You are also allowed 15 syns per day - 'treat' foods have a syn value - so that would be stuff like butter, jam, as well as your obvious chocolate/crisps/alcohol.

It does make sense once you get into it although some of the rules seem a bit strange, eg the fresh vs dry pasta debate that just happened here.

I would recommend it in that you don't end up starving and you do eat pretty healthily.

BTW I'm no expert so this is just based on my experience of doing it :)

If you go along to the first class you can sit in and not sign up till the end - if you decide not to sign up that's fine too - and you can pay week by week. So why not go along and have a listen?

Good luck with your weight loss.

    Hi folks,
I'd like to join your thread please! I started slimming world last wednesday and think I'd been very good so far , but could someone just clarify:

Pouches of rice are NOT free? Do you know the syn values (please let it be low) - Just answered my own question - between 2 and 5 syns depends on the flavour

What about the pouches of noodles? I'm assuming there are not free either??? - again checked online - between 1/2 and 3 syns depending on flavour

    Oh dear :(

Also what is the best chocolate/sweet fix for the least amount of syns? Creme eggs (according to my book) have 8.5. Obviously snack size have less..

Just wondering what you all eat for a treat?

Thanks and looking forward to being skinny!

  • uh oh well there's another unwelcome revalation - I presumed rice was rice and that the stuff in the packs was free too. Good job I'm doing plenty of exercise to make up for these types of slip up!

also carla it's worth trying the M&S COU chocolate mousse pots if you want a low syn choc treat - 4 syns per pot and they feel really luxurious to me. I have at least one a day.

    Hi Lynne, welcome

My sweet treat is a 2 finger kit kat (5 1/2) syns. cadbury fudge 6 syns, blue ribband 5 syns. These are the things I usually have with a cuppa if I need chocolate, or I just have an options belgium hot choc sachet, the are 2 1/2 syns. best thing to do is find out what you like and work around the syns, within reason of course. I think a curly wurly is around 6/7 syns too, there good chilled as they take ages to eat. Its best to choose something you enjoy so you never deprive yourself of your treat.

I love these pouches too and find them tastier than batchelors savoury rice (all free), so 2 ish syns isnt too bad, especially if you half it with someone.

No, fresh pasta is made with oil, so not free. Same with rice - it has to be the dried stuff not the ambient microwaveable pouches.

    Hi Catt,

I know fresh pasta is synned but my Sainsburys one doesn't have any oil in it - could it just be the stuffed ones? (I know the answer's going to be 'no'!)

:D sorry - the only free pasta is dried. Saying that if you really love the fresh pasta, some of it is fairly low in syns - just count the 2 or 3 syns and enjoy!

You're right - the answers no! Fresh pasta is fresh pasta.

It's your choice if you choose not to syn it, but then you're not following the plan 100%.
