  • Hi all,

Had another good day and still on track ;)

Had porridge this morning (HEB) with skimmed milk from HEA.

Loads of fruit to snack on throughout the day.

Then potato gnocchi with homemade tomato and roasted vegetable sauce, with 28g grated parmesan as my other HEA.

Yummy scrummy! I synned the gnocchi, but have since found a free recipe for it which I'll have to try and let you know..!

    Keep it up everyone!

Just off for a cuppa tea now :cheesy:

PS - 1 week in and my trousers are already looser - yay!

  • I bought some whoopsie jumbo sausage rolls earlier in the week (24p each - bargain) and froze them in half portions. Defrosted one today to have for lunch with some baked beans and a tomato. Horrifyingly it turned out to be 15.5 syns!

I ate in anyway of course!

    evening all!

well, despite the terrible weather, I ran my first ever 5k race today! Having a flexi day (very flexible) as i'm just enjoying a bottle of wine and had my event bag filled with energy bars and powerade for after the race. Have an amazing sense of achievement and ready to sign up for the next Edinburgh race (10k this time ;) )

Hope everyone is well and after today it has made me realise that anything is possible if you put your mind to it! x

I'm feeling like a real starvo at the minute too - I seem to be hungry at times that my mind deems totally inappropriate. I had a nice dinner tonight (cod in parsley sauce, mash potatos, steamed cabbage) at about 5.30 after the gym. Come 9pm I was starving and had my second HEB - a slice of toast - with some synned veggie pate and jam (half n half before it sounds too weird). And I came up to bed and cleaned my teeth about 10.30 because I was starting to feel hungry AGAIN!!

BTW this is my first red day ever :j:j

Some really good ideas here by the way, I hadn't thought of gnocchi and I have loads of both potatos and pasta flour so I might try making some tomorrow - I believe they freeze well too which is perfect for me.

And I didn't know you could have porridge - thought the oats have to be synned and wasn't prepared to waste syns on this. Off to investigate. **edited to say 28g porridge is def not worth a HE, will be sticking with bread**

I'm feeling really positive about this today. Let's hope it lasts!
  • Hi Belfast girl,

I'm new to this so hope I'm not getting it wrong! But online it says I can have 28g porridge oats plus one scan bran as one HEB. I didn't have the scan bran though, just the oats.

Also be careful with flour as it has to be synned (although I'm not quite sure why pasta is free when it's made from flour...).

I'll post the free gnocchi recipe in a sec - I tried to include a link to it but I'm not allowed as I'm a new user to this forum!

    Cheers, Ali x

  • Here it is. I haven't tried this yet as just found it but it looks good:

    Spinach Gnocchi

    Ingredients:-

    2lb/908g Potatoes
    14oz/397g Spinach Leaves
    1 Egg
    1/4 tsp Ground Nutmeg
    Salt and Pepper
    1 Onion
    3 Garlic Cloves
    2 x 400g Cans Chopped Tomatoes
    2 tbsp Freshly Chopped Basil
    4oz/113g Cheddar Cheese
    Rocket Leaves to Garnish

    Method:-

Peel and dice the potatoes, boil until soft, drain and mash. Meanwhile, blanch the spinach for 2 minutes, drain, squeeze out the excess moisture and finely chop. Place in a bowl with the potato and mix.
Beat the egg, add to the potato mixture with the nutmeg, season well and mix until well combined. Cover and chill in the fridge overnight.
Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5. Finely dice the onion and crush the garlic. Place in a pan with the tomatoes and basil, bring to the boil, cover and cook for 6-8 minutes. Season and transfer to a shallow ovenproof dish.
Shape the potato mixture into balls or longer rolls. Put them on top of the tomato mixture, grate the cheese over and bake in the oven for 10 minutes until hot and bubbling. Serve garnished with rocket.

    Serves 4
Free on Green - Add 6 syns if not using the cheese as a Healthy Extra

    Hi everybody

I have found it really hard to get back into the swing of things and today is the first proper plan day I have managed without getting tempted by some junk left over from Christmas. I don't know why I've been like this - it's not so much my mood as not wanting to let go of Christmas! and also feeling that I just can't waste the food - the old problem.

All said junk has pretty well gone now so perhaps it was just the way it was going to be! Feeling a bit more positive now but just want to send lots of encouragement to everybody who is having to give themselves a talking to like me. And that's what it comes down to with me - I just have to decide to do it!

So now I've got one good day under my belt - no more mucking about and no more excuses - I am serious about this and I will do it!

Wow didn't know you could make gnocchi without flour, might well give it a go tomorrow, think I have most of the ingredients in stock :) thanks for this. Wonder if I chopped my leftover cabbage well would it do instead of spinach :)

Oh I am definitely hungry now!!
