I reinstated my home delivery order yesterday and postponed it again today!!! I dont know how I find so many things to buy. A few clicks and my order was £100 plus  ??? I am also pre-empting that with the bad weather, the delivieries might get cancelled....

Postponing it for a week will give me chance to work out what I actually need and not just buy stuff for the fun of it!

I bought some bits on my way home from M * S. A few unnecessary items crept into my trolley.... (stick toffee puddings and custard!!). I also bought veg bits which I would rather not buy from there but it was kind of get all I needed and get out again. (bus to catch) I did take advantage of the offers though. They do have some good ones occasionally.

I know I have fallen back into bad habits so hopefully can take steps to rectify this. Ive done a new food planner for me to fit so will be busy writing that up tomorrow.

Oh dear oh dear...I just logged onto my credit card statement so I could tell DH the amount for payment, thought it was a lot. I've obviously completely slipped off the wagon with my grocery shopping as I added up supermarket spend since 1st Nov and it's 134.81 (if i've added it up correctly!). Not much room for manoeuvre this month then!

There's loads of food in, and I have a freezer inventory, will need some fresh bits but can probably do it without going miles and miles over. It's my M&S yellow stickered bargains that I can't resist that do it!

  • Spent £70.85 yesterday, £20 was on lunch out with OH and DS (the first time we have actually had a whole day off together in just over a year:eek: so although it was £20 that we can't afford out the food budget, as its been so long, and won't be at least until after Christmas that we can do it again, I wasn't gonna say no! Then we spent £50.85 on a top-up shop... we now have enough of pretty much everything for the month, it will only really be the fresh stuff that I need to buy. Not a great start to my first GC, but sometimes life just gets in the way.... and this will help me to focus a bit better in future!

I'm doing not too badly for 'free' food this month with all the recent LETS trading I've been doing - loads of basics like carrots, potatoes, celery and chard plus some muffins, crisps, dried fruit and even jars of coffee. :D Cheese and fruit are the main things I'll be needing but, other than that, I MIGHT be able to see the month out without buying much more. The ducks are still laying double yoke eggs and we're still getting a couple of eggs each day from our hen gang despite the awful weather and shortage of daylight hours.

Some of the homebrew is ready for drinking, so that needs to be sampled soon. :D

PS - Still not going to be able to stick to the original £1200 grocery budget for the entire year but I'm keeping it in check as much as possible and plan on doing better in 2010.

I have just updated my signature and am pleased to report that we're on schedule with our self-set GC budget for November. Admittedly we've had a timely boost with MIL asking us to take a few meat items to clear space in her freezer, as well as giving us eggs and a massive pack of toilet roll. I also cleared the under-sink cupboard and discovered a hoard of unopened cleaning supplies, so managed to resist the temptation of Sainsbury 'WYS' vouchers which expired this week.

I've just got some mince and a leg of lamb out of the freezer so if the rain stops later I might go and hide in the garage and do a stock-take!

This month is not going very well really - a lot of lost receipts and a lack of focus, I have to admit. So, I'll still be reading & cheering you all on but will have to bow out for now.
Good luck, everyone, hope to be back next month.

    Afternoon all!
Been to Mr Ts armed with a list and a meal plan and only bought 2 things that weren't on the list (Dove shower gel on offer and lentil dahl)- brilliant for me!
Managed to spend £37 exactly so not too bad I suppose - I have everything we need for the week including extra milk, bread, pop and stuff for packed lunches.
Will tot up the totals in a minute but I think next weeks shop will either be very frugal or will push me over the budget:confused: we'll see!
  • Well, what can I say? The weather is lousy! I think that cutting my grocery budget down to £40 per week from £50 was a rather short sighted reaction to having had to spend so much money in the first two weeks of the month on plane tickets, car hire and general survival. The family seem to be quite happy to have me back cooking proper food again so maybe they have realised that packet food is not quite as good as the thought it was.

I am going to have to cut back though so maybe baby steps would be better than a massive reduction so the December budget will probably be £45 rather than £40.

Rumour has it that Mr T has slow cookers that are large enough to feed 4 for just £10. Is this true everywhere?

    best wishes
