Hi all, have done the weekly shop and between Aldi & Morrisons have only spent £30.71.
Good buy on large jars of Nescafe Original in Mr M - priced at £4.44 or buy 2 for £6..........so I bought 2 :j. Also got 8 pork links half price
Bought again this week 10 large eggs in Aldi for 99p and also got 1kg satsumas for £1.19. Their fresh chicken breasts (4 large) were £3.99 and Scottish butter, which we also bought last week at 89p.
Certainly feel it is worth the effort now going to both shops and selectively shopping rather than buying everything in Mr M. We used to spend anything between £40 and £60 a week in Mr M before starting the challenge so progress is being made and I feel much more organised too.
Will get steak for OH tomorrow in M&S but that should be it until next Friday.0 -
Spent £5 in cafe yesterday, on tea for son no.1, as son no.2 was at a party in the creche.
Went to tesco today, didn't need to, but wanted to take advantage of the baileys half price offer, managed to get a few christmas presents too though, so that was good. Spent £15 on food.
Really got to try hard for the rest of the month, have got quite a bit of meat in the freezer though

Only spent £66 in Mr L and Mr M last week. Now sorting my meal plans for this week and working out what I need. Going in for a small op on Tuesday, so need to get ahead of myself. On the plus side, I should have some NSD's over the next couple of weeks!LBM July 2009DMP Start 1 September 2009DMP Support Number 3350

Hi guys, I have almost used up my entire 2009 budget after placing a small order with Appr0ved F00ds! I shared the order with a couple of friends, so my items came to less than £20, but I couldn't resist the gluten free bread mix at 10p for a 500g pack! It includes sachets of dried yeast (dated 06/2010) with enough for another couple of loaves, so I now have enough to last into next year. I also stocked up on milk powder and cous cous. It wasn't a huge amount spent, as you can imagine, but it will mean that I'll go over budget before very long. In addition to this, friend contacted me saying her A$da had margarine on offer, so she's picked me up a couple of them for me. (£2 for 2 kg tub)I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Oh heck, have spent most of my budget this week! Went to Mr. T on Thursday with 9 month old in trolley and thought I'd just do shop for the whole month so I wouldn't have to keep coming back! Also that included food and drink for 7YO and 5YO birthdays which are both in November, who planned that!
Have done meal plan though and have meals for whole month, just need a few fresh bits and snacks, bread and milk etc.
Hope this works out as a good plan!Beeee!Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))0 -

hi, can you put me down for £250 again this month. there has been a battle of wills at home and no one has done any food shopping! children complaining! will go to shops today for sons party food. Have decided that it is better to avoid Tescos if at all possible despite them sending me vouchers as i spend way more in there. I think im also going to start christmas food shopping. good luck for november everyoneGrocery Challenge Feb 16 £346 /4000

I have a small spend today (chinese takeway with friends tonight) - maybe £5?
I made a HUGE lasagne last night (bulked out with LOTS of veg - v yummy!) for the freezer, as well as our dinner last night :money:
I seem to hardly buy any food. You guys seem to be having to buy bread & milk all the time... We only buy one pint of milk with our weekly (or whenever) shop, and that just lasts us... I don't water it down either!
Also bread... usually one loaf from the supermarket with the other shopping & that's it, till next time. When we run out, we run out. We'll just have leftovers, pasta or a jacket spud for lunch. Is this odd?
The same with veg. I'm not sure if we're odd or not! There are only 2 adults to feed here, but still....

It looks like you're going to come in under your 'living allowance'? Wouldn't this balance it out a bit?Trying hard to money save....0 -
Hi, I'd like to join please. I spend at the monet about £200 a month between me and my daughter (well £240 including my daughters school dinners) I would like to get this down to £180 and £220 including her dinners. I have done my menu for the week which is as follows:
Monday Main Belly pork, mash potatoes and mixed veg, pudding Angel delight topped with bananas.
Tuesday Main Chicken satay and rice and peas, pudding Angel delight topped with bananas (from previous night)
Wednesday main Sausages, mash, peas and gravey pudding lemon sponge
Thusday Main Toad in the hol and mixed veg (using last nights sausages) pudding lemon sponge
Friday Main Salmon, pasta and cheese sauce pudding lemon sponge
Saturday I have a sleep over for my daughter so going to make pizzas, garlic bread and potato wedges.
Sunday left overs from last night.
So my shopping list is just about nothin as I have most of this in I just need to get more organised so I stop buying and use the food I have. The lemon sponge has a week left on its date so need to eat this next week.

& highlights the differences in location that can cause a big difference to folks personal Grocery Challenge. Our very closest fairly decent-sized is a MrT [but you really need a car to get full use] & a sort of express-sized S0merf1eld with associated higher prices about a 15mins walk. Ditto sized MrS with very little choice is around 30min walk from us with a larger branch, MrM & L1dl around a 20min car journey. W@itrose & M&$ a tad further & our closest MrA around 50 miles drive in each direction again. We've no F@rmf00d, C0stc0, £land etc south of the Watford Gap & Ike@ is a good 2 hr+.
I've been making good use of a little Pet Shop in our limited shopping parade who has been selling large scratchers eggs for 88p/half doz, wilja spuds @ 20p/lb & whatever LOCAL veg he can get hold of. Unfortunately though, the chap has suffered several set-backs this year & has now decided enough is enough & is shutting up shop for good at the end of the month. He will be sorely missed, as much for his bargains as the fact he is a genuinely nice guy who will chew the fat with whoever stops by for a chat.
Anyhooz, siggie to update & a bit , but it does include a box of 440ml cans of draught irish stout @ a tenner for the offspring's dad, kuzin's :xmassmile prezz, a monthly store-cupboard stock-up & I got a bigger box of No2's pain killers this time too.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
