Flat Eric - long slow rcook for that brisket. Last bit I had I did in the slow cooker, then left it to go cold so I could cut the fat off. OK as a pot roast, but again long cook on a low temp. I hope you complained!
I have a free delivery for the same supermarket, but I know I would be ordering for the sake of it. I am trying really hard to hold off and just do Lidl this month until I run out of dolce gusto pods which, obviously, are critical for good temper.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -

Thanks for the tips. Will give it a go next weekend. Will let you know how I get on! Yes I did complain (phoned up) and that might get followed up by a letter of complaint. They have been offering me a free delivery for months - the voucher would expire then I would get a new one! They can rest assured I wont be shopping again with them any time soon! I had numerous problems with my delivery and to be honest all the problems I was having previously with them still remain Bring back mr blue and white man. all is forgiven!!! I have plenty of food though so I really must sit down and plan menus. (what I plan to do now with x factor in the background, my roast in the oven and a glass of wine by my side!!)0 -
I've spent £45.70 this week so not too bad as this includes all cleaning stuff and feline related matter. Have however, had to replace a full packet of spaghetti as have discovered that a certain small person of mine has been regularly dipping in and eating it  and had managed to not leave me a lot. He's now been shown where the snacks are and told to please not do that again little horror:rotfl::rotfl: That rather put a spanner in the works for spaghetti bolognaise this week!

I used to eat 'raw' pasta and spaghetti as a kid too :rotfl:
Did the first shop of my month today and spent £90.99. Well actually I spent £77.35 as I get staff discount at Mr S (usually 10%, but currently 15% til just after Xmas). I'll be paying the difference off my debt
Spent quite a lot because I bought cans of drink for OH to take to work and as I forgot to look what I had before I shopped, I bought 24 cans of drink that I didn't need to  Also bought the dog's food for the month, and bottles of Lucozade for OH (12 bottles for £5, so bought 24). The only meat I bought was mince, as we have lots in the freezer already.
Got two whoopsies.... Salmon cottage pie reduced from £1.99 to 49p and ready to roast potatoes/goose fat reduced from £2.99 to £1.29 (bought two of each). They'd only just started the reductions, so I think I will try later next Sunday to see if I can get some more stuff, there's usually good reductions on a Sunday
Anyway, thats enough waffle from me

Already over but I set a very low budget. Also todays but included Christmas presents, newspapers and things for son visiting from Uni. Husband has beeen told he has to lose weight by the hospital (finally) and so bought he lots of nice diet things.
Might be entertaining next week end so I will continue to update but finding it really hard.0 -
Hello everyone, have spent all weekend wrapped up in the warm and batch cooking.
helen jelly -thank you for your kind words. I hope thing improve for you too soon, your situation sounds much like ours and it's a bit grim at times. I also am very good at putting milk in the freezer and then forgetting to get it out in time. I think we could do with a small cow here, considering there's only 2 of us I really don't know how we get through so much milk.
Anyway, I've turned out 10 portions of Lasagne some for the freezer, some already eaten, yesterday, but this was from only 1lb of mince stre...t...ched out with red kidney beans and extra veggies. I'm contemplating turning another 1lb of mince into individual cottage pies. Also made some drop scones and the Sunday dinner which was roast pork (about £2 odd, from my local butcher and plenty for 2 of us) Roast Potatoes, sprouts and Yorkshire ...yummy. No room for pud.
Finally, sat down to relax this evening and DH found an old bottle of some sort of liqueur at the back of the cupboard....on sampling it was promptly tipped down the sink...Yuk. The bottle has now been emptied  so that's that. My mind is now turning to the Xmas biscuits and choccies which I have carefully stashed away ...I'm resisting so far:rotfl:........... DH has bribed me with boiled egg and soldiers and said he would make it! They do say feed a cold, don't they?
2 NSDs in row yippee, oh and by the way I actually came home with some money after my friday shop. £12 to last me for the rest of the month, so this could be fun:rolleyes:. I like a challenge:rotfl:

5:2 Diet started 28/1/2013 only 13lbs lost due to Xmas 2013 blip.0 -
The last three days (since I last checked in) hasn't seen a single a single NSD for me
And even more  at first glance is that I've spend just over £14, which means I'm now £2.31 over budget compared to where I should be tonight.....
But I'm not actually tooooo concerned, as my largest individual purchase (today) was £6.53 on a beef (top rump) joint for over Christmas..... Spotted the half-price joints in Mr M last night, so this morning I did a 'freezer jiggle' to see if I could make space for one - and I managed it, justCheryl0 -
Evening all! Had DD2, SIL and MIL over for lunch and did a huge leg of lamb in a barbeque sauce which was scrummy. The lamb cost £12 but there was plenty for the five of us and enough leftovers to have tomorrow and to make at least two cottage pies so that works out about a £1 a head.
Had to pop out for some cream yesterday to go with the pineapple upside down pud I made for today (again enough for us tomorrow too), and extra ketchup for the barbeque sauce, but other wise have no plans to buy anything else until the end of the week.
Have been online ordering food for the party for the family in December when DD2 and SIL have their marriage blessing. I won't be counting this in the GC budget though as I have a separate budget for entertaining.
Well, I am off to make some tea. Have a good week everyone.

Hi all,
Got a bit 'lost' already! I know I've spent £3.80 on bread and milk yesterday and £7 in butchers, but can't remember if I've bought anything else in previous days:o! In my defence it was DD1s wedding yesterday and my head is still a bit all over the place. We decided to cater ourselves (big mistake - wouldn't recommend it! Was definately much cheaper but also very stressful) so have been buying bits n bobs for that over past few days which isn't included in the challenge. On up side we have quite a lot of stuff left over which we can make use of over next few days...:D
Also had DS1 home from uni (for the wedding) and he's not eaten properly for weeks (student finance have not paid his grant yet:rolleyes:) so sent him back today with a food parcel! Which means my cupbaords are now a bit bare! Will have to do an online shop I think. Don't know what I'm having next week so will have to do some meal planning.
Don't have a freezer at mo (it died) so can't really do much advance cooking and obviously can't freeze`any fresh stuff either.
Anyways..... better get on with it.
