  • Hi all

Just a quick update, went to Home Bargains yesterday and spent £7.34 had to stock up on medicine items, hayfever tabs, paracetamol, heartburn med, loo rolls and I treated myself to some perfume which was only £1.99!

Also popped into my fave frozen food shop Heron Foods, to stock up on some stuff for kids treat meals, I spent £12.28 and got quite a lot:-

Pack of two large par-baked rolls 49p
    pack of 6 par-baked dinner rolls 49p
Robinsons apple & blackcurrant juice 68p
2 packs of SFC crispy chicken dippers £1.98
2 x pack of four Activia Strawberry cereal yoghurts 98p (BARGAIN)
Box of 6 lions maid fruit splits £1.00
    Mccains smiley faces 99p
2 Chicago Town Personal take a way pizzas £1.98
Pack of 4 tins of heinz spaghetti £1.69
2 large packs of Birds Eye chicken gougons (approx 30 in each pack) £2.00

So that should keep the kids going for a while, they don't have this kind of food often, but I like to have it in, incase we are having something they really don't like, or if i'm not feeling very well and DH has to cook.

Now I need to figure out how to use 2 heads of red cabbage before they spoil (from the plot but neither of us has ever eaten red cabbage before).

Braised red cabbage - which will freeze well. Needs apples and sultanas/ raisins too. Delia has a good recipe - but there are loads on the net. Goes well with poultry/ game roasts - ooh, and pork. Nice cold with cold meats/ cheese.

    Raw in salad/ coleslaw?

After just coming in under in October, I'm lowering the budget this month to £450. OH finishes work (redundancy, no pay off - 2nd time in 6 months) this Friday and will be getting JSA until he gets a new job, so our finances will be much reduced. I'd like to spend less, but having spent nearly 1/3rd of the budget already (inc £20 on wine for Xmas) I'm not sure I will!! I do have a well stocked freezer and cupboards, so theoretically will only need bread, milk, cheeses, yogurts, fruit, veg & baked beans for much of the rest of the month(I only have 2 tins!) - but we all know that they are famous last words!!!:D:rotfl: I will try and spend as little as poss, though - I would like some freezer space for Xmas bits! I should be fine for cleaning stuff/ toiletries and nappies/ pull ups/ wipes. I also have about 12kg of pasta in my cupboards....:o

We shall see - menu planning will be a must!!!

I've been spending way too much money on groceries lately and still have a few things in the cupboards that need using.

Can you please put me down for £45 this month?

Got my first weeks worth of shopping after making a meal plan and actually sticking to my shopping list! Only came to £36.84 (normally spend about £55). Won't need anything else now (hopefully) till next week.

    Morning all

I have some lamb steaks to do tonight but rarely cook lamb so cant think of anything to do with them apart form casserole...any ideas gratefully received please :D

Just realised I have my first star!! I am seriously excited!

I have same lamb steaks prepared for tonight. I cook them kind of Greek style in a tinfoil parcel with garlic, a little onion, thyme or rosemary, some dried oregano and a couple of spoonfuls of HM stock, cook in the oven moderate heat for about 30-45 minutes, lovely. I also sometimes add a couple of bits of feta cheese in and some red pepper - really just what I have available.

Well done on your star :T

I haven't been on here in a number of months - have been in a long long process of moving out of London which is still not complete... however want to get back in there with the GC once again! DH is still mostly not yet living with me in the new place, and costs here may well be lower, so estimating spending is tricky but could you please put me down for £150 for November? That will help me at least get back into the discipline of keeping track of spending!

Thanks, and great to be back! Off to go edit sig next.

Morning! Can I declare £387.69 for November please, and can you put me down for £400 for December again please?

Need to stock up on some basics this month, and make some new freezer lists. Will be googling recipes for feta in a bit as oh gave me a huge catering sized pack of it - so thanks for the lamb idea, very timely!
