1. The SNOW, about 5 inches, no school for DD, no office for me - I don't think anyone in my team went in, we all worked from home
2. DD and I went out to play and throw snowballs, then she went up to the village with her friend and friend's mum, whilst I made....
3. scrumptious beany vegetable soup for us all for lunchThe mummy loved it so much she had 3 bowls!! DD gave me 16 thumbs up and said it's better than in a restaurant, bless her. Amazing what you can do with slightly mouldy carrots, bendy celery, sprouty spuds and a couple of dented tins of beans/tomatoes, lol.
4. switching the heating off whilst DD is out at another friend's, playing. I've got a stinking cold so have stayed home out of harm's way, and was feeling just too flipping hot and bothered with it on, so happy to be a little chilly for a while.
5. I've been reading various crafty blogs today and am feeling inspired, although I know I'm scarily lazy, and started a scarf for DD weeks ago and haven't finished it yet, so maybe making crafty presents for family is a wee bit over-ambitious at this late stage, lol.0 -
Okay, here's my five pleasures for the day:
1) The snow. Waking up to a few inches of snow made my heart sink and sing at the same time. It's nice to look at, but a pain to walk over. In the end, my heart won and I couldn't keep the smile off my face. Snow this close to Christmas is so rare!
2) Taking a half day holiday to make sure I got home before it started to freeze and the journey turned into an ice rink. I'm now home about 2 hours earlier than normal and my feet are just starting to thaw.
3) Taking some photos of the scenery in the snow. Everything looks so much prettier when it is covered with a white blanket. I took pictures of a nice tree, a house by the river, the trees in the car park at work ... beautiful. It makes me thankful my phone has a camera in it.
4) The office Christmas lunch! We were treated to an Italian meal for our Christmas do this year, and it was beautiful. Antipasti misti for our starters - lovely asparagus in parma ham, deep-fried mozzarella, garlic mushrooms, garlic bread and some other things - oh, smoked salmon! Then I had lobster tortella (kind of ravioli) in a saffron, cream and butter sauce - mmm ... finished off with a coffee creme brulee. That has saved me two meals, as I really don't feel like eating again tonight!
5) Coming home to my DH. He was waiting with a cup of tea and a cuddle.
6) I know, I wrote that there were 5 pleasures, but I couldn't forget this one. I was lent some silver foil type platters for a party tomorrow night, and also another colleague went to the market to fetch me some eggs, bless her!
Right now, my feet are starting to tingle with the realisation that it IS warm and they're not going to stay wet and cold for the next hourWonderful feeling. I hope that a couple of items I ordered for Christmas turn up tomorrow, but I doubt they will given the backlog of stuff the Post Office must have and the weather. Tonight is just going to be scrambled egg on toast as DH isn't hungry either. I've picked out my next cross-stitch design if I can find somewhere that does it, and I'm going to have a look at some foodie blogs before picking up my cross stitch and settling in the for night. Take care everyone, and stay warm and safe.
(((hugs))) to those that need one and big thanks for all your support.

Hi chaps! Ours for the last few days have been
1) DS looked awful on Tuesday evening. By the time I got home, he had already had two hours' sleep. He ate half his tea and then went back to bed. He slept until 11 o'clock the next morning - and then was perfectly all right! Thank Goodness!
2) DH had his head shaved this morning for charity. He really does look awful but he has managed to get promises of £285 for the orphanage our church support and someone is interested in sponsoring a child, so I'm extremely proud of him. He did take his hat to work.
3) Made a batch of shortbread for a friend's present last night and they came out just perfect.
4) Had M&S ready meal with the Three Musketeers last night. I was driving so I wasn't drinking but I didn't miss it. We had a lovely time and I was offered some pud to take home, which is handy because ...
5) Big family meal this evening. Again. MIL and FIL are having their kitchen restored after a leak. DD's bf is home from Uni and DS's gf is the last piece of the jigsaw. I'm afraid I have resorted to a slow cooker chilli and rice, with a green salad and left over pud but we shall have wine too and the expense of these things could get out of hand otherwise. One of the contributors to the More for Less book said she made exactly the same meal no matter who came. It was all about the company and I have to say I think she is right.0 -
Hi all,
1. waking up to snow
2. walking up the hill to mum's in the snow. the town looks so (unusually) pretty from the top of the hill
3. Using mum's which? subscription to check out which printer to buy (ours has died after 6 years!).
4. watching Doris Day and Rock Hudson dvd.
5. Having more or less all the food I need till my delivery next week so only need to go out to get gas money or for fun!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Good evening everyone.
Acey So sorry to read about your friends Mum. My prayers are being said for their family. Sorry about your ex too
Ollie The wool is called Pomp by Sirdar. After many trial & error attempts at casting it on this afternoon (and emergency posts on the knitting thread) I have finally done it. It's a doddle to knit with as you only knit two stitches on each stringy bit. I'll probably need some more balls by the end of the holidays
Patchwork Quilt Well done to your DH :T My Dad had his head shaved 12 years ago, before he retired, for Water Aid. Mum hated it but he raised a lot of money which is what it's all about. Make sure he has a hat with him though!
My five for today:
1. Warming lentil soup made for lunch - perfect in this weather.
2. Finally getting my wool cast on (see above)
3. Being toasty warm & very grateful to have a lovely home.
4. I'm planning on making some salt dough decorations with DS3 tomorrow to hang around the kitchen. He's very much looking forward to it too.
5. Laughing at the dogs as they were aiding & abetting each other in stealing the cat food upstairs this morning. It is on a cupboard in my room to keep it out of the dogs way - allegedly. Susie the Labrador was taking mouthfuls from the bowl whilst balanced on my bed and kindly spitting it out onto the duvet for Max, the Beagle, to help himself to :rotfl: :rotfl: It was worth changing the bed for the laugh I had.
Stay wrapped up and warm tonight everyone it's a cold one. Hugs for those who need them and you are all in my thoughts xxx0 -
Oh, its so cold! -4 this morning, went up to -2 this afternoon and its now dropping down again. But not a flake of snow :-(
5 for today:
1) The boys' last day of term! They took in lots of Lego each (play day) and presents for their teachers, sloe gin (that we made) and some Thortons for one teacher who is a Muslim.
2) Chatted on the phone to a friend for over an hour.
3) Went to mum and dad's and dad came with me to get my Christmas present from them - 2 new front tyres! I knew the old ones were wearing out and am shocked how much lighter the steering is now :-S
4) Made quite a nice tea - greens, mash and sausages.
5) Got a quiet night in in front of the fire and Have I Got News for You later.

Hiya All
Mine for today:
1 Dh (off work sick) got up to drive the school run as I dont drive in snow and walking would have taken hours with how slippery it was so had a warm drive there instead!
2 Made more rocky road as I ate quite alot this morning and wanted more for presents
3 Spent the day wrapping and making presents that need to go to family when we visit tomorrow (assuming weather ok) or that needs to be posted.
4 Gave some homemade goodies to the mums at school for xmas presents and was told by one how nice it was to receive a homemade gift and how she appreciated it especially as I took the time to make it for her.
5 A well deserved glass of wine! and its bloody lovely!0 -
I've been on a bit of a downer this week, falling off the Flylady wagon (and boy isn't my house showing it!) and feeling well and truly fed up with the lack of a job. DH has been off work poorly, which is unheard of, and I've been feeling pretty dreadful too. Nevertheless, I'm hoping I might get a bit of time to catch up on all your posts over the weekend to start appreciating the good things again.
5 for today:
1. The sense of relief at completing a delivering another application, after staying up til 1.30am working on it. I persevered, even though everything told me that I'd never hear any more of it once it's gone in. (Just one more to get off before Christmas now.)
2. Mum and Dad came over to mine to meet my sister who was passing through the county. Sis suggested going to our village pub for lunch and it's very good value for money, so I was fine with that. Best of all, my sister treated us all!
3. My boys were very grown up at the pub. DS1 had sirloin steak and chips and ate the lot (which surprised me because it was pinker than I thought he could cope with). DS2 had chicken fajitas and gave my parents an introduction and sample!
4. Mum brought a HM coffee cake over, mainly for DS2 I suspect. My first bite took me back by 20 years - my favourite! (DS2 is enjoying it too but we'll have it to ourselves because DH and DS1 hate coffee!)
5. Snuggling up in bed for an early night - any minute now!
