  • Evening all

    Mine for today are

1 Snow this morning - made us decide to stay in the house instead of shopping - had a lovely relaxing morning

2 Went with DD2 to pictures to see A Christmas Carol in 3D. 3D has come on so much since the old days of cardboard red and green glasses Really enjoyed the animation and 3D

3 Had tea out so no cooking for me as............

4 it was pay day for all the family today - we don't usually all get paid the same day but have been paid early due to Christmas.

5 Then met up with DD1 when she finished work and went to the theatre to see the ballet of Peter Pan. Had a lovely time - 2 great treats in one day:D

    Have a good evening all

    Weight loss since January 2011 - 5st 5 lbs!!!!!
  • Hi everyone
    1. Finished the Christmas shopping, now just have to wrap them and I can forget about them for a few days.
2.decided to blend, roast and grind some coffee for SIl and DD, the rest of the family are tea drinkers. The smell when I'm roasting the beans is almost as nice as drinking the coffee.
    3. Snuck down to look at the new farm, and work out where to put sheds, gardens etc. Thankfully at this stage it can still be seen from the road, so we could make quite a few decisions without disturbing anyone. Just six weeks till possession date.
    4. Went grocery shopping in the new town, and met so many people we already know, so it doesn't seem such an intimidating move.
    5. The first of the plums are ready, so I shall be making fruit leather tomorrow.

    Blessings be
    Jennie

Really, really busy for these few days - hence missing a couple of days posting but my five for today are:

    1. The snow, of course!

    2. Using some of my new Lush goodies in the shower this morning.

    3. Discovering the joys of crocheting with very, very fine darning wool and a 2mm hook. (I was making tightly crocheted circles to use as patches.) When I've finished my scarf I must investigate crochet patterns for fine wool because I really liked the delicacy of the finished circles.

    4. Finding a cafe/bar near the theatre which sells cappuccinos. The Italian owner seemed terribly pleased to serve me one to take out and took a huge amount of care in making it (including giving me a freebie biscuit). It was lovely to have that sort of service for something as simple and commonplace as a coffee.

    5. Stage managing for the first night of DS1's show tonight. It went very well. The adults involved in backstage stuff, the technical side and directing are very competent and have all worked together in past productions so there's lots of trust and good team work. DS2 has been helping the technicians with lights and sound and is in the theatre's control room for every performance so he's very happy too.

We are back there for a matinee and evening performance tomorrow - another busy day ahead - and some more snow is forecast overnight as well :D

    Sweet dreams and warm hugs

  • Hi all,

apologies for lack of posting this week, just too tired and busy.

scotrae - fingers crossed for you... i was laid off in november but i got a job 3 weeks later (ok, only temp till feb but its something and there is potential it may turn permanant) so try to keep positive, something WILL turn up :-)

    few good things this week:

    1) SNOW! (ok, it didn't stay lay and its bitterly cold with a russian wind, but still... SNOW!!!) cue kiddy grin...

    2) cuddled up in a blanket to type this so cold is bearable

    3) feeling a bit smug as all but one xmas present is sorted (and as much as i don't like having any money to buy stocking filler presents on a whim it makes it a lot more OS!) and that will be got tomorrow... then i just have to wrap up the last 2 homemade hampers and presents for better half and DS.

    4) Better half coming back tomorrow after 3 weeks away on course... in time for xmas, yay!

    5) looking forward to xmas shop ON MY OWN (now THERES a rare luxury, lol) tomorrow to get food for xmas (frozen and canned/ dry/ bottled stuff + food to last till 23rd) sadly i have to work 8 hr days until 1pm xmas eve so will have to brave the crowds for fresh groceries and dairy later next week but getting a bit of a head start will be nice!

    6) finding out work is closed from 1pm xmas eve till 8.30am 4th jan. so i get time off for xmas... yay :-) !!!!!!!!!! (not brill as will be a struggle to pay bills january missing 1 weeks wages but quality family time will be worth it)

    7) littlest (she really is tiny) cat Boots (as in "Puss-in-boots", not having boot height coloured legs - she is jet black with yellow eyes) sneaking up onto my lap as i have a blanket for cuddle while i am typing this... she is SO light i can't even feel her weight on my lap!

    8) looking forward to putting up xmas decs sunday - saved for when better half is back as he loves it SO much

    9) thoroughly enjoying Victorian Christmas on t.v. and loving the website clips too

    10) being given a bottle of wine from company i am working for as a christmas treat, very much appreciating thought just as much as wondering what to cook to go with it!

    11) trying to research what to cook for suddenly turned veggie DS for christmas dinner - still havent found anything i think he will love but still hoping i can find a recipe for something (maybe a nut loaf with ground nuts i can disguise?) with mushrooms (thats a must have ingrediant for him!) and/ or cranberries... if i can't find anything i will post and ask on the OS thread, so any suggestions considered?!

    12) no idea why, but feeling very content and happy with my life in general at the moment - enjoying and appreciating the good things i have and trying to work around the things i don't (and sadly need rather than want).

    13) almost forgot!... beloved dad telling me off for buying him a big box of thorntons chocs as little smiles for when he is feeling low or in pain (apparantly they were too expensive and he is going to smack my bum, lol)... DEFINATE warm fuzzy feeling inside :-)

    14) oh! and... BIG one this... my mum letting me borrow her bread machine (kind of a permanant loan as i will use it more than her, i think) AND its top of the range from John Lewis (eeek! she NEVER buys anything cheap - even my "new" kitchen is her recycled 3 year old John Lewis kitchen units she had replaced when she had an small extension - damn thing was £15,000 and i even got the AEG built-in oven, all i had to do was clean it all!!!). Haven't got a clue what to do with it and feel nervous and excited in equal amounts. Have recipe book and instructions but will be scanning pages on OS when get chance for help/ guidance as i am SO scared of breaking it - at first glance it bakes bread, cake and jam (if only it washed the dishes too, lol)

thats all i can think of for now but hugs and best wishes to all who aren't feeling so good at the mo for whatever reason

    mine for today

    1) well of course its Friday :j

    2) OH giving me my xmas pressie early, my laptop died about 6 months ago, got another one but was upset at the things I lost, he took it to laptop doctors and xmas pressie was a DVD of all they could recover. (note to self.....backup!) He gave it to me early so I can sort stuff now, not be on lappy all day xmas day :rotfl:

    3) getting my Tesco delivery with all the stuff I need to make buffet for Sunday

    4) only paying under a tenner for the Tesco order as used vouchers, I know you get more if you use deals, but the money off shopping was better value for us.

    5) hearing that my DD took her daughter out at 6.30 this morning to teach her how to do snow angels (we haven't had any snow here though)

extra one....getting an £80 bonus from work, was a bit gobsmacked at that as last year had only been there 3 months and got £10, at the time I thought it was just a flat £10 for everyone.
whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

    Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/11 :D

Good morning  everybody - still no 'white stuff' on the ground for us at the moment PLUS it looks like we've had almost a 'full crew' on board in the last 24hrs .

bella - your roasted pork hock sounds very delish !
ACEY - sorry to hear about your friend's mum - things must be very tough for her whole family right now. Wd on getting new tyres for your car AND that it's made such a difference - can't take any risks especially when roads are slippy/snowed up.
kiwiblue - wow - that's some size trout - one per person is the average here! My OH loves the stuff and often gets it if we're out for a meal - I leave the menu propped up between us, so I don't have to look at what's on his plate _pale_. I can smell that coffee all the way here - my favourite smell in the world ;).
Tealady - Great to hear that you and your mum had such a lovely conversation about your brother and that the memories are good ones.
Caterina - wd you on making such a lovely birthday brekkie for your DS's friend :T - no wonder their friends love coming to your house ;).
savingforoz - wtg on getting those roof repairs sorted - that must be such a relief for you :j.
Kittikins - wtg on your fabulous soup - I can almost TASTE it from here ;). Hope your head%20cold.gif leaves you alone soon - can't have you like that for over Christmas.
kitchenbunny - Good luck with your next cross-stitch project .
Patchwork - wd on your lovely family meal and what a good idea to do something from the slow cooker - it really does make sense to have a 'tried and trusted', easy cook recipe for such occasions. We've got visitors coming on Boxing Day (DS1, his g/f and her 5yr old son) and I'm doing 'Scouse with Dumplings' for them. It'll go on around 8.00am and be ready about 6.00 and I'll have hardly anything to do in between apart from the dumplings :j. Wd to your DH on helping to raise money like that - very brave man when there's snow forecast!
newlywed - sorry to hear about your printer BUT wtg on using your mum's which subscription to find another one :T.
Sunny Girl - That Pomp sounds very similar to the 'Tiddly Pom' that I tried to post a link to - http://www.abakhan.co.uk/acatalog/info_12482.html. Looks as though it would make fabulous pram/pushchair/cot covers . :rotfl: at Susie and Max - and how very restrained of Susie to take food and drop it for Max to eat.
Rummer - I love your image of you being surrounded by four sleeping kitties (can almost hear the gentle purring from them) AND all your Chirstmas goodies .
nuttybabe - wd to your OH for doing the school run when he didn't feel very well - don't blame you one bit. Can't be too careful with children in the car especially when conditions are treacherous. I don't drive myself, but, having had lessons, I can appreciate how difficult it must be.
scotrae - sorry to hear that both you and your OH aren't well - best get it over and done with before next week though. Don't be worrying yourself about falling off the Flylady Wagon - you're not well, coping with an unwell OH, down in the dumps over not having a job, filling in applications AND trying to complete Christmas preparations. You are NOT Superwoman, dear girl - just human! HS56f50c5961246aa8e363e52881d43e2b.gifto you.
Sounds like you've managed to enjoy a few good 'family days'.
nic1lou2 - (why oh why do I think of a knitting pattern when I type your name ;)). Cinema and Ballet in one day :j - I'm hoping to get to see 'A Christmas Carol' as well though I'm not normally a Jim Carrey fan.
Broomstick - wtg you on stage managing the performance - hope it goes just as well for tonight and that the bad weather doesn't affect the performers/audience :T.
blackcrow - wd on getting a good few days off work, but sorry to hear you won't be paid for them - is that because you've not been there long enough? Good Luck with your veggie meal hunting - I'm sure that you'll get lots of ideas now that you've mentioned needing a recipe for Christmas Day :j. Congrats on 'fostering' a bread-maker ;).
Dazi - wd to your OH on getting you a lap-top and how wonderful that he managed have some stuff retrieved :T. Wtg on your Tesco delivery.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Freebie calendar from 'Danish Blue Cheese' in the post :j.

    2. My 'boss-lady' agreed to me changing my day-off next week so I can look after DD and the dgk's while DD goes for her endoscopy. It's so good to have a woman boss who understands 'family needs'.

    3. Got one of my tenants back from hospital yesterday - she's has a fall (while out shopping with her family) and broken a bone in her pelvis - 94yrs old and partially-sighted - but only been in hospital for a week . Really good to have her back again - she never ceases to amaze us :j.

    4. Changed the bedding - finally had to give in and attach the Summer Duvet to the Autumn/Spring one to achieve 'Winter' effect - it looked like a 'cloud' sitting on top of the bed when finished :rotfl:. Bedding all washed and dried on landing bannister, radiator rads and over a door :j!

    5. A box of 'Chocolate Petit Fours' from one of my tenants.

    6. Gave out the remaining Christmas Cards to my tenants.

    7. Delicious evening meal of 'Sweet Chilli Chicken' from Asda - served with pasta and sauteed onions/mixed peppers/mushrooms (with extra Sweet Chilli Sauce from a bottle) and garlic bread slices. OH was positively drooling .

    8. Also used up a pack of whoopsied plums to make a Plum Crumble - we don't often 'do' desserts, so this was a lovely change. 2 more portions for later today .

Today's plans include a shopping trip to my home town (St.Helens) which I always love at Christmas. Taking DD1 with me for company. Need to find a cardigan for my mum's pressie. I know where they do some 'dressy ones' for older ladies and I'm sure one of those will suit her just find . Also need a man's cardigan for OH's 90yr old grandad :).

Looks like quite a few of you have OH's with colds so good luck and HSblinky_ani_bearhugs.gif to all of you - speak again later - love Ollie xxx
  • Morning all,

Its brrrrrrrrr cold here today. The sun is out and it all looks rather serene. although I can see a pigeon looking for water in the garden, i'd better sort that later.

    1. I've done my to-do list. Not sure how will manage it in this weather! Ah, there's next week to catch up on delivering pressies. I still have a few cards to write so that's must do for today.

    2. ooh that's all for now, the pigeon having no drinking water is worrying me, he keeps landing on the bird bath and then staring at me! Back later.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

A bit lax on posts of late, it's been quite busy which is a nice change from the usual day-to-day routine.

    1. DS arrived from Lancs for the weekend with youngest future DGS, an 8y/o ladykiller-in-the-making
    2. Postie brought me a huge box of flowers then DS arrived and brought me more, it looks beautiful in here today
    3. The white stuff hasn't gone or even shows any signs of moving, but no more has arrived
    4. A lovely newsy letter from one of my old nursing colleagues from 25 years ago
    5. DS and future DGS made a snowman at the front of the house, lovely to see DS play with the little one - I never thought he'd be a dad and he's a great one to his partner's 3 lovely children.
    6. The daughter of a friend is on her way to stay with me for 2 nights before leaving to live in Rhodes. It means a house full tonight, whoopee!

    Take care and stay safe

  • Mine for the day are all cooking-related. I've been in the kitchen since about 10am this morning and only just got finished now! Nibbles for so many people really take it out of you :D

    1) Making mini pizzas from a French Stick and using passata with herbs and garlic and cheese.
    2) Making mini garlic cheese breads in the same way.
    3) The feeling of accomplishment at what I've done today!
    4) Using up leftover stuff to make nibbles!
    5) Gettting to taste the things as they come out of the oven :D

Have a good evening, everyone, and keep warm!

    Hi all

I am in a state of nervous excitement - about to go downstairs with DH to rig up the string in the handmade roman blinds! This is where I shall find out whether all this work has been for nothing, or if it works, whether I am going to be the star of the show! I have to say, now that they have the rods in place and the tags hand-stitched, they look much better (almost straight!). The proof of the pudding is going to be whether they go up and down and fold properly - or not. Cross fingers for me!

Before I go, though, I am going to post my pleasures of the day:

1 - One from last night, we were meant to go and see Chinese Elvis in a Chinese restaurant (buffet dinner) but suddenly, in the evening, with snow outside and with the house free of children (DS away to his friend and DD at her BF's) our home felt much more appealing than any Elvis, Chinese or otherwise. So we decided to cancel and since we were saving quite a lot of money we treated ourselves to a takeaway instead (rice made at home to save money) and watch TV. So we did, the takeaway was great, pudding was a fruit compote I had made earlier, then homemade orange peel chocs (a friend's gift earlier in the day), and watched Victorian Farm Christmas (and other assorted things afterwards). Couldn't have wished for a better evening!

2 - Today, long lie in after watching TV until the early hours last night!

3 - Someone came to pick up the books that I had put on Freecycle, more decluttering, YIPPEE!

4 - Homemade soda scones for breakfast.

5 - Leftover rice from last night turned into rice and onion soup for lunch, accompanied by a salad of tomatoes and raw garlic (DH and I both smell like anti-vampire devices, but feel very healthy for it, we just cannot go too near people LOLOLOL). All made by DH, too!

6 - Visited friends to see their new van (DH's name is on their insurance so we can use it too, occasionally). Great to be able to share a vehicle on a very part time basis. Lovely van, too, much newer and more modern than the last one. Had tea and h/m scones with them and also admired their new small wood burning stove in full action, nice and warm and cosy.

7 - DD is cooking dinner, pasta soup with potato and courgette (a near-minestrone).

Now I am off to do the blinds thing....wish me luck!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
