Hi everyone
Had a great 24 hours at the lake, so my pleasures are really special ones.
1. Went to dinner at a fabulous restaurant that was high on a hill overlooking Lake Taupo. Bush right down to the lake, tuis in the trees, great food and service, just a perfect evening, the memory of which I will cherish for a long time.
2. As OH took me to dinner I 'shouted' lunch. Cafe in the middle of a vineyard, limited by very well cooked menu, and OH stocked up on some local wines.
3. Up at dawn, Oh took the boat out alone, and caught a limit bag of trout.
4. Back home safe, well and tired, greeted by disdainful cat, very happy dog and chatty chickens. Sometimes life is soooooooo good.
5. Bought some freshly picked asparagus on the way home, so a very simple tea tonight, asparagus on hm bread with a cheese sauce. The only frugal thing about the last couple of days
Blessings be

Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.:rudolf:
1. Making time to post my pleasures, really keeps me focused on maintaining my os ways. Knowing that i'm not alone on the quest.:A
2. Delivering thank you presents to 3 of son's teachers, they really went the extra mile, for his recent uni interviews.
3. Visting a wool shop in Carrickfergus, new gs/gd has just been announced due Julyish. Have heard great things about this shop, so very excited about my visit.:j
4. Sent off for free baking trays from just roll, first time i've ever sent away for these, hoping they will be suitable for a hamper i'm planning to make for friends birthday next year.:money:
5. Made really nice hm quiche for tea last night, it was veggie too. Now having 4 veggie nights a week, so pleased with this. Have noticed a big drop in my butchery spending.
Have a great os day everyone, :A hugs to all who need them. xxx
Kittikins, very well done in resisting the greatly reduced coat. This week i discovered that the boden sale was on, now i had to be so so so strong not to spend. Coats are my weakness, try only shop at charity shops, have picked up some great bargains, after xmas is good, people seem to clear out at this time of year.
Ollie I hate losing posts, it happens all the time, i can't figure out what it is i'm doing wrong.Keep meaning to enrol on a wee computer course. Maybe that could be something for the new year.

Good morning all from a cold & snowy Lancashire!
I was mega busy yesterday finishing off the last few bits of present buying for the children. Selection boxes & chocolate coins then a few bits from Poundland - turkey foil, a couple of boxes of crackers and some batteries for the various singing snowmen etc around the house :rotfl:
My five are:
1. The concert that DS3 played in was brilliant. He played in the beginners brass group and they were great to say they'd al only been playing for 8 weeks :T:T
2. While we were watching it started to snow. It was very festive singing carols & watching the snow out of the window.
3. I treated myself to a couple of balls of a new type of wool. It's like a string with fuffy pompoms every half inch or so. It knits up into a padded quilted affair so I'm going to do a scarf to see how it knits first. I like to have a craft type project to do over the Christmas hols.
4. I paid another £10 into next years Christmas savings :money:
5. My parents came with us to the concert. It was nice to see them both enjoying themselves as they've had a tough year healthwise.
Have a great OS day all & keep warm & safe xx0 -
Good morning everybody  - and another very brrrrrrrrrr one it is too - no signs of the anticipated snow as yet though.
Tealady - What a lovely lady your mil is - and how well that whole thing led into you finding the photograph - very poignant. Enjoy your wine.
newlywed - wtg on getting the boiler repaired - how we miss 'instant heat' when it's no longer there for us. wd to your mil on getting the milk - it's so heavy to carry - 'oh for the days of the milkman in the mornings!'.
Primrose - my daughter rang to say there was some snow where they live (4mls away) but none landed here . Wd you on getting another year out of your tree - ours is on it's 4th - and wd on your charity shop scarf :j.
nuttybabe - what a great day! christmas party (with Santa!), lots of free food, no spend day, making Christmas goodies, sock monkeys AND SNOW!
nioc1lou2 - wow 7.15 is a lie-in ? Wd on getting £25 voucher from Morrisons and wtg on getting your Christmas shop done :T.
Rummer - how lovely to have such a good atmosphere in work - I miss the company of other people around me sometimes, though at least I get to choose my own times for breaks/lunch etc - but a colleague to share a chat with occasionally would be good - e-mail chat isn't quite the same.
Dazi - wd on the sock monkey! And good for you on keeping in touch with your mum, dad and family on the phone - excellent reason for being behind with your christmas pressie wrapping.
ginnyknit - what a lovely way of sharing TV with your mum :j and wd on finding your long-lost cake tin :T. I've got 2 of 'those cupboards' but they are low down and go a long-way back into corners - need OH to crawl under the shelf to reach the furthest recesses !
kiwiblue - sounds like you and OH had a great time at your lake house - sounds such a lovely place. Do you manage to use the trout that he catches? - hope so.
bunnytoo - wd on getting your meat spending down - veggie quiche is a great way as you still get your protein from the eggs. I used to do one using butterbeans in with the veg (just a bit of a faff to soak and cook them first though). Enjoy your baby-knitting.
Sunny Girl - wd to your ds3 on his concert. Loving the sound of your new yarn - is it Tiddly Pom? I found three bags of 'gold coins' in among all my wrapping stuff yesterday - had a taste, but they were yukky - that'll teach me - wouldn't like to guess expiry date !
Mine for yesterday:
1. Quiet day in work and managed to finish writing the remaining work Christmas Cards. Should have delivered them, but got caught up with other stuff in the afternoon so that was the end of that!
2. Phone call from DD about an appointment for an endoscopy next week and would like me to accompany and keep charge of dgk's while she's there and in case she needs escorting back again afterwards (could need an anaesthetic for it). Now need to ask 'bosslady' if I can change my planned day off from Wed to Tues - fingers crossed - thank goodness I hadn't already given out the notes about days off to my tenants :T!
3. Flying lunchtime visit from DS1 - sometimes this place is like a flipping canteen ;)!
4. Unexpected evening visit from DS2 with his 'boys' (dgs2&3 - Dylan the Villain and Bouncing-Billy-Blue-Eyes). Eggy bread for Billy; Pizza and Pasta in Tomato Sauce (packet job) for Dylan and DS2; and Belly Pork, Champ and Cabbage (sweet chilli dipping sauce on the belly pork) for OH and me
5. Prepped and froze 5 leeks (white bits for serving as veg; green bits for soups/casseroles; and dark green bits for stews AND some long thin strips from outer leaves for 'ties' to serve bundles of greenbeans with).
6. Found some whoopsied plums from a couple of evenings ago and stewed them in the microwave - will add either a sponge or crumble topping later.
Have been making space in the freezers, but filling them up again with veggies for over Christmas and buffet items. Just a bit more shopping to do - probably tomorrow and pressies to wrap - getting there eventually
.
for all who need them - let's make sure that we try and keep all bugs/germs away for the next couple of weeks especially - speak again later, love Ollie xxx

Yesterday's pleasures:-
1. Made more white rolls to replace the black ones from the previous day, although the black ones were fine to eat.
2. Made cream of cabbage soup, sounds disgusting but is yummy.
3. Cleaned all the kitchen cupboards, soooo didn't want too but soooo glad it's done.
4. Pork hock for dinner with red cabbage cooked along side it in the oven, mashed swede and roasties done in the Remoska. A fabulously cheap mid week roast. Delish too.
5. 2 x 2 portions of red cabbage and mashed swede for the freezer.

5 for yesterday. (Thursday)
1) Did lots of housework to try and get things straight before the boys break up from school. Cleaned their room, changed bunk beds, thorough clean of the bathroom, cleaned the stairs (they're wooden, not carpet), did the kitchen and kitchen floor.
2) Got various admin type jobs done as well, changed little son's paediatricians appointment, that sort of thing.
3) Maked baked potatoes that were nice!! I put skewers through them to try and get rid of any "icy" bits in the middle and it worked.
4) My sister's Christmas present came in the post. A friend of mine has recently started making jewellery and I asked her to make a bracelet.
5) Had a quiet evening in front of the fire watching Gavin and Stacey.
Some less pleasant news from yesterday though. I phoned the court as my ex husband was in there on 20 charges of fraud :-( It seems yesterday was a prelimary sort of thing and he'll be back in on 4th January. Then I was talking to a friend of mine (on the computer) and I knew her mum has cancer again but she is now in a coma. :-(
-4 at the moment!

Hi Olliebeak
I have become quite proficient at using the trout, one of my favorites is to fillet and debone it, pop in boiling salted water for 5 - 6 minutes, drain, cool, cut into small chunks and place on salad greens with a seafood sauce, and serve as an entree its absolutely delicious. The trout here are much larger than in the Uk, one trout would typically feed 4 - 5 adults as a main, it always makes me grin when I read the UK recipes0 -
Morning all,
Mine for yesterday -
1. Just me and OH for dinner do made Chicken Curry and Naan bread. Portion in the fridge for DD lunch today.
2. DD being made a leader at guides, she is so pleased
3. Managing to create 2 presents for DD friends at the last minute, glad I had some extra bits in
4. Getting a lift home from picking DD up at guides as has started to snow and not very nice
5. Chatting to my mum on the phone and telling her about the photo I'd found. We then had a reminise about all the things by brother used to get up to as a child which was nice.
Hugs to all that need them and hope everyone is staying warm in this cold weather0 -
Hi all
Here are mine for the day:
1 - I made a birthday breakfast in honour of a friend of DS, she stayed here overnight and today is going to her mum's who is organising her a birthday party (tomorrow). DS is going with her and coming back tomorrow late at night. She was here when I did the birthday breakfast for the twins and loved it, so when she commented that she was going to ask her mum I told her that her mum has enough on her plate by organising the party and I did it for her instead. She was really delighted! The breakfast consists of a sort of cold buffet with cheese and ham, bread, cakes etc, with nice coffee and tea and a danish pastry.
2 - The snow, it makes everything so pretty!
3 - The house is SPARKLING CLEAN! I treated myself to a few hours of a cleaner, she came in and did a wonderful job.
4 - DD helped me sort and fold the laundry and throw away more junk.
5 - I had a call from a friend that I haven't seen for a while and she is coming to visit this afternoon.
6 - Edited to add: How could I forget - I received a Secret Santa gift in the post!
Life is good, love to all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi, everyone! Hope you are all OK.:santa2:
Recent ones for me include:
1. Going to listen to my friend's choir last night, singing carols and sipping mulled wine.
2. The roof repairs on my house being sorted.
3. Receiving a free 2010 diary from a client.
4. Delicious homemade chickpea and mushroom curry - yum.
5. Going for an Italian meal out with a couple of my new gym buddies.
6. Working every day on my latest short story - except it's not so short any more (over 16,000 words so far).Life is not a dress rehearsal.0
