    Evening

Reverbe- Sorry to hear your sad news, hugs to you
Ladyhawk & Kittins - I'm also doing the sunwalk so if you need another walking partner I'm doing the half marathon.

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Wander around the Festival of Britain with DD. All free and we both enjoyed it, especially the water fountains and the fox made from hay bales.
    2. Watching the fly past in central london, something very moving about watching WWII planes flying over you.
    3. Seeing the army bands marching back to their barracks next to buckingham palace
    4. Beautiful setting of the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park. Went to see Lord of the Flies with DD. Very good production and we both enjoyed it though did get slightly cooked as was very warm in there.
    5. Great walk from Regents Park back to Waterloo. The best way to see London is on foot and so glad we are fit and healthy to be able to do it.

Hugs to all who need them

hello from early Sunday morning & it's still dark but the birds are starting to get noisy!

well our internet was being silly again yesterday so couldn't get on to post my Saturday pleasures so here they are:

    1. Woke up early enough to be able to have a great chat with my neice in UK. Through a mixture of skype so I could show her all the things I've bought for baby and then on phone as skype connection was poor. Lovely to chat & see her bump!
2.went out for brunch & shopping. Didn't need too much as I'd got all my cheap fruit & veg on Thursday.
3.sun was shining, so had washing on clothes horses in front of windows to get benefit of sunlight. I don't think they would have dried outside, not much heat.
4.got my prescription at cheapest place in town!
5.had a wee snooze on sofa late afternoon which saved me from crashing out at 8pm!

Reverbe - sorry to hear about the sad time you are going through.

Newlywed - your "mother" problem sounds all too familiar here, I'm afraid. :-(

Anyway, an exciting day chez Frith! Here we go:

    1) Bit of a lie in.

    2) Cooked breakfast.

    A Day Out!!

    3) Drove to Skenfrith (Monmouthshire) and smaller son did an excellent job of map reading. What a lovely village, and not too far away either. I was just looking at the road atlas this morning and saw it had a National Trust castle and thought we would go and get in free (as we are in the NT). So off we went and the castle was really quite big and FREE! With free parking! We walked out the back "door" of the castle and there was a beautiful river behind it with a path along, a stone bridge and someone had kindly put a rope swing just there for us as well. :-D

Did a bit more exploring afterwards and there was a huge Norman church with wall paintings and someone had left some fairy cakes and Welsh cakes for sale so we bought some of those. Then there was a volunteer run cafe open (only at weekends) which was in a big shed so we had a cup of tea and a massive furry cat came to see us.

    4) Drove on from there and saw Tintern Abbey (but we didn't stop).

    5) Got a bit lost at the Severn Estuary as it is not my neck of the woods but the boys liked looking up at the massive Severn Bridge.

    6) Stopped at Lydney Harbour and looked at the boats.

    7) Got a bit lost so headed to Gloucester and had a quick look at the new Quays and had pizza.

    So a good day.

Less good is that MrN's sons have decided they do not like us. This is really what led to our exodus today as we can barely leave the house without a bit of aggro from one or other of them. :-(

Another bit of bother is that I have always thought that quite a lot of our "relationship" was the amount of child care I was doing for MrN. So I not sure there will be any reason for him to bother with me at all now that part is gone. I don't know.

Frith, maybe it's a good thing to find out if OH only wants you for your childcare or not. I'm glad your mega expedition today turned out so well. :)
Jojo, my DSs really like our expanded version of 'soup and pudding' supper, now with two dippy eggs and soldiers added. It's starting to become one of those staple meals every week. They've stopped turning the eggshells upside down to draw faces on though. Does your daughter still do that?

    Anyway, my five for Saturday,

    1. Going out to a weaving shop to search for a present and coming away, not with the present, but with some really classy but cheap offcuts from some of their woollen fabric. I'll use them in my craft making somehow.

    2. Searching in the huge garden (and everything else) centre nearby, and sorting out the present problem after a great deal of looking and not buying. I don't really go shopping just to wander and look any more so it felt like a bit of a novelty. It is good though to realise how much 'stuff' I really don't want or need nowadays. :D

    3. Taking a detour on the way home via some quiet lanes and stopping to take a look at the elderflower - there's still lots out in the hedgerows here but it looked a bit past its sell-by date :) so I didn't take any. The route I took is particularly lovely and I hadn't been that way in a while.

    4. Getting washing on the line before I went out and leaving instructions for DS1 to bring everything in if it looked like rain. When I got home I discovered that he'd been aware enough to bring it all in, bone dry :) before the rain started two minutes later.

    5. Both the DSs being in better moods today. :D

    Sweet dreams

    Mine for yesterday

    1. Doing 2 hours digging and weeding in the garden and seeing how much better it looked just for that. (must've done me some good too cos me thigh muscles hurt today!:D)
    2. Freshly baked croissants for breakfast
    3. Long lazy bath in the morning
    4. COming home early from son's football presentation evening cos it was a bit rubbish and the food was worse but politically the awards went to the right people.
    5. Reading my book in bed cos there was nowt on tv.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    Hugs to Reverbe.
Grieving takes time so let yourself deal with things in your own time.
the Cruse bereavement website has a few good leaflets to read and also do voluntary counselling - so no money needed, if you have none.

Everyone said I was brave taking on step kids - it's really not them that's the biggest problem!!! Wouldn't mind so much but she left OH for an 18 year old - her choice.

    Anyway, here's mine....

    1. Making earrings for a friend - seriously didn't cost much or take long - but she was thrilled with them :)

    2. Neighbour calling this morning with a loverly M&S cake as a thank you for OH changing the outdoor tap to our block of flats and fitting a hose pipe for the gardens - just waiting for the hose pipe ban now!!! :rotfl:

    3. Elderly couple we went to help set up their new internet connection gave us a box of roses - but their PC problems are more serious as their PC is 14 years old :o

    4. Lost a little bit more weight - even with a Carvery last sunday and roses and M&S cake ;)

    5. Cooked a huge batch of chilli for the freezer, trying to stretch food as far as possible (got 12 days left till payday).
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

I've only posted on this thread once before, so I thought I would make the effort to post again.

    This weekend:-

    1. Picked some last minute elderflowers for Elderflower Champagne. I've already got two gallons of elderflower wine on the go, but missed the champagne due to badly timed rainfall.

    2. Picked Raspberries and salad leaves from my garden for tea.

    3. Wore a brand new viscose top, one of the only items i've payed full price for and managed to get a bleach mark on it! I didn't even use any bleach, so no idea how it happened. In a panic I spotted the cinnamon in the kitchen cupboard and decided to cut my losses and attempt to 'dye' the mark since its a similar colour. Well, oddly, this seemed to work ok. The top now has a slightly darker stain in between the pattern which is not so obvious as the bright white mark was. Close enough, although I may have to do this again after it takes a trip through the washing machine.

    4. Freshly made bread from the bread maker, turned into toast, for breakfast.

    5. Filtered and bottled two gallons of homemade wine. One is my first attempt at Dandelion wine, it's a CJJ Berry recipe that uses some orange and (to me) it tastes a little like Cointreau, so very pleased. The other is a 'make it up as you go along' tropical wine made from Lychee, Melon, mango and grape juice. Sounds weird, but I think it tastes great, but I think I better sample another glass just to make sure.....

    Evening everyone,

That sounds great Tealady - have you already registered? Kittikins would you be interested?

When was Sparrer due back from her hols? must be any day now...

    1) Hightlight of the weekend - Completing the Moonwalk in about 4 hours... including the 20 minute loo break at mile 10. It was just starting to not be fun anymore at mile 12 so I cant even imagine how tough the full marathon would be!

    2) The hostel was clean and relatively new. Even though they were quite cheeky about the extras they charged for... ie to leave your bags once you have checked out!

    3) Was definitely not OS and bought some waterproofs, mid layers and hiking shoes. Actually despite spending a fortune, they were all very good quality and were all reduced.

    4) Lovely day spent by myself... in the pub reading a book about the history of my homeland. It is a very troubled and bloody history that I am ashamed to admit that I have not been well versed on.

    5) Lovely lunch with two of my dear friends that live in Edinburgh.

    Time for beddybyes... I'm shattered!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
