Just chilling out before a well deserved early night, DD and I have had a great weekend, busy but she's not overdone it, phew, it's a tough balancing act!

    1. DD's little friend, after being a bit sad for a few minutes at bedtime because he wanted his mummy, slept like a proverbial log until 9:30 this morning! The children played together beautifully until after lunch, although occasionally they did bicker like an old married couple "I told you I heard you the first time", "Well, if you had replied when I first asked you the question, then I wouldn't have repeated myself"......I was chuckling quietly to myself in the kitchen at this point!

    2. DD and I made gingerbread biccies to take to our friends' this afternoon for their Christmas drinkies and people liked them :)

    3. The ukelele Christmas-themed singalong at said do was fab, 2 blokes in a kitchen strumming at the best of their abilities whilst the rest of us sang and DD and I danced :)

    4. YS bread rolls and, to my shame, YS sliced white bread at Mr M's this afternoon. DD asked if we could have white bread as she really really likes it. Just this once....

    5. DD is in my bed, so I'll be snuggly and cuddly tonight. She asked so nicely, I couldn't refuse :)

    6. DD also read her school book beautifully, got every word except "fawn" without help. Good girl!

    7. Looking forward to my last week of work this year :):)

  • Hello all, hope you've all had a good day. Here are my pleasures-
1.Singing in the Christmas carol concert today, years since I've done that.
2.DD saying she really enjoyed the concert and meaning it, I thought she might find some bits a bit boring but she said, no, it was all good.
3.Nachos and pancakes for tea using my Christmas pressie MAGIMIX!!!!!
    4.X factor with my daughter.
5.Still really enjoying my brand new library book, I need to finish it by 22/12 as someone else is waiting but shouldn't be a problem the way I'm going!
That's all, sleep well everyone x

    Hi all

    Muppet, happy (late) birthday wishes!

Here are my five from yesterday:

1 - Breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, homemade baked beans on toast - it reminds me, I got to soak another 2lbs haricot beans to make some more!

2 - Hardly any coughing, really feeling the energy coming back to me!

3 - DH cut the fibreglass sticks to put into our homemade roman blinds and they look a lot better now that they are much straighter (still need to thread cord, though - that will be the proof of the pudding!).

4 - DH and I visited long-term friends who we hadn't seen for ages and we had a lovely evening together.

5 - Another friend was there, who lives in our area, so we got a lift back home in the late evening (great not to have to sit and wait for buses at that late hour!).

Here are my five for today:

1 - A friend and colleague came visiting and we had a lot of chatting but also a bit of working so I can enter that in my timesheet.

2 - She brought a lovely rosehip jam/chutney/conserve and some goat cheese (I cannot have the cheese but the family will!).

3 - I gave her the Christmas gift cushion I had made for her because she was quite down and so I wanted to cheer her up - that's ok, she is also like me, not fixated about doing Christmassy things on the specified day!

4 - Late lunch of leftover cabbage and lentil soup stretched with water, marigold powder and a handful of leftover rice. Yummy!

5 - Anticipating watching the second episode (is it the last?) of Small Island tonight, as I missed it yesterday evening.

    Love to all xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Hi everyone, my 5 for today are.:hello:

    1. Internet working again, now a very happy bunny.:j

    2. Started to deliver all the hand-made xmas pressies, this takes about 10 days in total. Lots of compliments on relishes and mini mince pies.:rudolf:result.

    3. Son away all this week for uni interviews, remember him in your prayers for me.:A

    4. Home-made pizza for tea. Left the dough out 2 days ago in the fridge and forgot about it, hope i'm here tomorrow to post.:p

5 About to start and read all the missed posts, see what you have been all up to.:j

Have a great os evening big hugs to all those who need them. xx
  • Tealady you bring back such memories - mmmmm fish patties. Used to get these and the fish and chip shop when I was young. I think they cost 4d and they were delicious.

Wow it's cold here. The fleece blanket round my legs is doing nothing at all for my nose end!

    Now for the pleasures:-

    1. A free and interesting talk at the library with a mince pie and cup of coffee thrown in.

    2. Walking to the library even though it was damp out.

    3. Even better, coming back on the bus with free pass.

    4. Pea pod soup from the freezer for lunch. A taste of summer which is either a distant memory or a far off hope which ever way one looks at it.

    5. Hugs from my lovely grandchildren when they came to tea tonight.

I'm very cross this evening. I shall say why then get on with my 5!

Every year, carol singers go round the village. They're based at the local church but I think anyone can go along with them. They stop outside every house and you can donate money to the charity of their choice.

Well, they stopped at my house and sang and I stood on the doorstep (always a bit embarrasing!) and put my £1 in. I live in a terrace so the access is such that you can walk through into the neighbours on both sides of my house.

Two singers said, "Should we do that house?" (pointing to next door neighbours) and another said, "We always go through there" and the bossy woman who is our local councillor said, "No, they're foreign, Romanian or something", walked off and everyone followed her!

Well, 2 of them are not foreign, 1 is Lithuanian and I've never asked him about his taste in music but I'm sure he'd listen to a carol! I'm really annoyed and tempted to email the vicar as it is not only church led but he was one of the carol singers!!!!

    Anyway, 5 for today....

    1) Watching bigger son in his play this morning (he was Simon Cowell). Mum and my brother went to watch too.

    2) Going to Ludlow for some more Christmas shopping, finding lots of things (including 2 lovely things for my Secret Santa) and having lunch at the Olive Branch. (as mentioned by Bill Bryson in notes from a small island).

    3) Wrapping every present this afternoon.

    4) Little son's life book from his speech therapist arriving in the post.

    5) Being warm and cosy and about to go to bed (2 hours earlier than normal).

  • Just very quickly

    1) DD dancing at the presentation last night. She gave it up a while ago but she still has the moves.
    2) DS singing, in public, and looking very cool. I told him that I would have been panicking and he said, "Mum, I was panicking." This is the person who once famously asked, "What's stress?" and meant it.
    3) All the Grandpas, Grandmas and partners etc coming over to have mince pies and Christmas cake afterwards. Mum brought extra mince pies and cakes, her chap brought a poinsettia, which I had been secretly wanting in Tesco but had not allowed myself to buy. Everyone chatted and got on well and the baking went down very well, especially the gluten free Christmas cake that I baked a couple of weeks ago. What a relief and also, what a pleasure. I ate three mince pies (gluten free) before I realised what I was doing!
    4) Large tub of chocolates today in lieu of cards from a colleague.
    5) An old friend and her daughter came to tea. Cue more food and all the leftover goodies from last night.

Evening  everybody - it's been damp and murky here all day - not quite as cold as it has been though.

Patchwork - your 'Christmas Do' sounds fabulous - wd to your lovely cleaning lady :j - hope the Youth Presentation went well in church :).
scotrae - sounds like you had a great evening with your friends and their children - lol at your OH :rotfl: - just tell him that it's HIS turn next time !
Broomstick - lol at you all hitting the 'ice cream' - OH keeps dropping hints about us 'not having any nibbles in the cupboards'. Yeah right! - they're all in the stash boxes and he can keep his hands off unless he decides to buy something out of his own money ;). Those Wonderland programmes were fascinating - never seen them before. Have already watched the 'University Challenge' and 'Living with Mother' ones as well as 'Singing for the Brain'. Thanks for the link to them.
Kittikins - wd to your and your DD for the fabulous weekend that you've enjoyed with various friends. Don't blame your DD one little bit ;) - I too love white bread :rotfl:. Wholemeal gives me indigestion BUT I do love granary/seeded batch types.
ACEY - my boys also used to play with Lego for hours on end - one toy that never goes out of style . Hope the school play went well.
alisong - wd on your Christmas Carol Concert and good that your DD enjoyed it too.
Caterina - wd on such a busy weekend with good friends. Sounds as though you're recovering really well :).
bunny too - great to see you back again bunny - darn nuisance when the internet gives us problems . Hope all goes well for your son with his interviews and that he gets the uni/courses that he really wants.
bella - sounds like you had a great day - rounded off with hugs from darling grandchildren. Doesn't get much better than that ;).
elizabunny - great that you can still welcome your mil and her brother into your home at their ages :) - and :T on nearly winning on the lottery - one step closer, at least ;).

    Mine for yesterday and today:

    1. Finally finishing off decorating the tree around 10.30 last night - and I'm 'chuffed to little mintballs' with it .

    2. Scouse with dumplings for evening meal and supper last night.

    3. Watched some of the Wonderland programmes that Broomstick gave the link to - very moving/inspirational stuff.

    4. My mum rang me this morning  - such a rare event as she never rings anybody . But she was asking about DD and also letting me know that she's had her first ever flu jab lol. That was because she has now been told that she's NOT allergic to eggs - something that she's claimed ever since we were all kids .

    5. Visit from DS2 with g/f and dgs3 (16mths) for a couple of hours around lunchtime - had to barricade the tree with the coffee-table and the tv with the big pouffee . Was lovely to see them and made arrangements for them to visit on Christmas Sunday for a meal. Dgs had a bowl of the scouse for his lunch.

    6. OH and I finished off the scouse this evening and it tasted even better for having 'been stood' overnight.

    7. Phone call from DD to ask if dgd1 can come to us tomorrow evening after school. I'll meet her off the bus at our local shopping centre as she wants to get some pressies (from Wilkies) for a couple of school friends and take her for something to eat as well.

That's me done for this evening so I'm heading off for bed shortly - wonder if I can manage more than 3 pages of my book tonight :o. Big Hugs to all who need them - Nitey nite - love Ollie xxx
