  • Hello all :A

Just popping in quickly and have only had chance to read the posts on this page.
Caterina - so pleased that you had a good nights sleep.

My pleasures , rolling over from yesterday

1)It is my birthday today but Mr M decided that it started yesterday so we had a lovely lazy afternoon watching The Box of Delights (a childrens programme from 1984 and set at Christmas time). I had bought it on DVD a few years ago and never got round to watching it.
    2) Nice comforting casserole meal from stuff in the freezer so no hard work for me. Followed by some Chocolate Hotel chocolates which Mr M received as a pressie from work. Divine!!!!
    3) Mr M brought me my pressies in bed with a coffee. I have such wonderful friends and have had so many lovely cards and pressies. Several beautiful home made cards which are extra special.
    4) Dear friend from when we were 8 had sent me a DVD containing video clips of lots of wonderful times we have shared, including a bit of footage of my beloved old dog who died many years ago and my beloved Mum who died in 1985. To see her and see her moving and hear her voice has made it a birthday to remember as all these years on, she was here to share it with me. I had never seen the footage before. I cried a lot after watching it but it was not sad crying, just emotion.
    5) Friends coming round this aft and we are going to do some winter sports on the Wii and have a giggle.

I have been made to feel very special and loved today and I feel so happy and grateful to be alive.

Love to all those who are not feeling so happy right now and if only I could pass on some of what I am feeling, I would ((Hugs))

    xx
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend

    Hi all

    Mine for yesterday

1 Had a lie in. Kids had a late night so slept in quite late - very nice!

2 Feeling all happy and xmassy with lights on and music

3 Spending all afternoon cooking for xmas buffet food rather than housework!!! :P Also made some more fudge which hopefully is nice (i dont like fudge but want something nice to add to a few presents)

4 Sat down with kids watching the Grinch.

5 Finishing another sock monkey. I have 3 finished that I am just waiting for the wool to arrive before doing hats and scarfs. Need to get another 2 done before the weekend for xmas presents.

    Back later for todays
  • 1. Saying yes please to my neighbour's offer of homemade ham broth leftovers for lunch (she won't eat leftovers and is currently eating her Sunday lunch in the pub)
    2. Buying some eggs and milk locally to make Yorkshire puds for later rather than driving to nearest town to buy some ready mades
    3. About to make cakes as the cupboards are bare
    4. Just realised that my list so far is all about food, maybe that's why I'm so overweight :D
    5. Looking forward to afternoon curled up on the sofa with the Christmas lights on, reading some of my craft books with a view to making items to sell next year

  • Ok, here goes. Find the positive, find the positive...

    1) Making some mini quiches - pics to follow as and when I make them ;)
    2) Unexpectedly waking up so early today has meant I've got a lot more done, even if I'm worrying constantly.
    3) The prospect of a nice hot bath tonight.
    4) Attempting to make the old tumble drier a bit more efficient by renewing a seal. Even if it hasn't worked as well as we intended, I got to put some cake-decorating skills into practice with a caulk gun!
    5) My skin being a bit clearer for drinking less pop.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Hi all

Happy Birthday Muppet - hope you have a great day.

    Pleasures for today

1 Although I did not intend to cook a roast dinner again before Christmas - I could not resist the deal in Morrisons for £4 and have to say that it was a very, very tasty dinner, with enough left for OH for tea tomorrow. Wow I am stuffed now.

2 TV has been on its last legs for ages now and last night was very dodgy - so this morning did some research on TV's and thanks to info from this site got a fantastic deal on a new LCD one and new stand. I had been saving for a wedding outfit for DD1's wedding next August, so used that money to buy it but there is plenty of time to save up again. Looks lovely in the lounge now:T

3 Normally setting TV's and building stands is a bit of a nightmare in this house as OH has quite a short fuse for that type of thing but amazingly just literally plugged everything in and it set itself up - Oh the miracles of modern technology!:T

4 Had a lovely day with DD (OH was working this morning) and she mucked in and helped clean - which is more unusual than I would like:rolleyes:

5 Feel very content this afternoon, although I slept very badly as usual, but it is nice to think most of my rushing around is done now. I have to be ready early as I am going in hospital for an operation on 21st December so will be out of action just before Christmas, but there is no need to panic now. Just need to take wreaths to the cemetery next week to parents graves and then all done.

    Have a good evening all

Afternoon all  - still very cold and frosty outdoors today - brrrrrrr.

savingforoz - well done on your all-you-can-eat buffet meal yesterday - that's a great price, especially for London :T.
Tealady - I'd never heard of those fish patties before - not a great lover of fish BUT they sound very interesting .
    Muppet - Hope you're having a great day HS473949fjm3tcg78d_7404.gifHSgiftbox.gifHSbirthday11.gif!
nuttybabe - wd on you all getting a lovely lie-in and wtg on your cooking session and 'monkey making'.
kayjay1809 - and welcome to the thread :) - wd on your 'proper' yorkies ;).
Kitchenbunny - HSbearhugblinkie1.gif - you sound as though you need it. Wtg on your cake decorating skills coming in handy with a caulking gun :rotfl:!
nic1lou2 - sorry to hear that you've not been sleeping well and that you need to go into hospital - sending you 'huggy vibes'. Wd you on getting the new TV for such a bargain price and setting it up so quickly :j.

Now this is the bit where Ollie hangs her head in shame .............

Had a visit from DD and her b/f for a couple of child-free hours while they're still at their dads'. She asked if I was doing the 'tree' (she could see the bottom bit in it's stand with it's branches all fluffied out and the lower lights on) and told her the whole sorry saga about losing the connecting pieces (?). She went for a closer look and then burst out laughing................ and asked why I'd got the wrong piece in the stand . Oh the embarassment blush.gif - I'd put the middle in the base and then tried to connect the base to the top of the middle and the top bit to the top of the base. No wonder nothing fitted together . Had to quickly phone OH to stop him from getting another tree - thanks goodness he bought himself a mobile a couple of weeks ago - phew! I now have the added embarassment of thinking that he'd perhaps sabotaged it in some way, so we would NEED a new tree after all. But do I now have to apologise for thoughts that he knows nothing about lol ?

Tree lights are now twinkling away beautifully, the golden ribbons are twisted around the tree and I'm about to put some baubles on now :j - and DD has gone home with a 'pleased as punch' expression on her face :rotfl:.

speak again later - love Ollie xxx
  • Happy Birthday Muppet and hi to everyone else. These are mine for the last couple of days

    1) A Jamaican evening at work. This was a Christmas do with a twist. Our cleaning lady, who has Jamaican roots, volunteered to cook for us all and we were treated to mutton curry, twice cooked chicken and fried chicken, rice and beans and fried plantain. That was just the main course. All for £5 with a quiz thrown in. We had a lovely time.
    2) Day doing nothing yesterday. Went for a coffee date to start off with.
    3) Then got crafty and made a huge stocking each for DD and DS, all blanket stitched around and appliqued with hearts or a snowman, according to who is was for. The fleece came from a blanket I found in Oxfam for £1.99 and the rest was stuff I had given or I have hoarded. I was quite pleased with them.
    4) Have had a really busy day here cleaning up, doing the washing, studying etc before the grandparents come but I have got it all done and the mince pies etc for later were all paid for from the recent Clubcard vouchers.
    5) Looking forward to the Christmas Presentation this evening. Knowing how much DD and DS have put into it I shall be anxious for them too but I know it will be all right on the night.

    Have a pleasant evening, everyone.

There are some gorgeous OS 'reasons to be cheerful' on here this weekend. And for once I've had a NS day, so I can keep mine off the subject of how much I've saved and return to the true meaning of the OS forum.

    1. Friends coming round for lunch, bringing their gorgeous 11-month-old girl and 2-year-old son. My big boys played really nicely with the little ones, which was particularly commendable for DS1. (I'm not sure if knowing our guests had brought a huge tin of chocs made a difference for him.) And the little girl was so obliging with her smiles, hugs and kisses. (DH had better keep his distance - I know what he's thinking ;))

    2. Managing to eke the '3 for 2' farmshop chicken out for all of us with lots of veg, mash, roasties (farm shop sack still going strong!) and hm stuffing. Delia's choc orange souffle went down well, as did a very simple fruit salad.

    3. All four of us sitting in the lounge together to watch 'Elf'. Sorry - five - Ralph the Elf ;) watched with us too.

    4. Making 'bubble and squeak' with leftover mash and veg from lunch for supper with some extra sausages I cooked and chilled yesterday. DS1 thought it was the best "Aw Mum this is like vegetarian stuffing!' (apart from the sausage chunks of course!).

    5. Finally getting round to 'testing' the 3/4 bottle of Baileys which has been untouched in the dresser for the past 11.5 months. Please to report that it tastes fine!

Evening all. My five for Sunday:

    1. The wreath looks even better in daylight and it hasn't fallen off the front door. :D

    2. Spending all afternoon at a full run-through of the production DS1 is in next week. Complete chaos in places (which will get sorted in time!) but bits of it were lovely.

    3. We shouldn't have done this and it wasn't at all OS (but it was very pleasurable)... everyone was still hungry after supper so I said that it was OK to open the ice-cream we had got put away for Xmas . It had been on offer at M&S - just hope I can replace it as cheaply! Mint and choc chip and very yummy.

    4. Emptying out and tidying up my sewing box. All the buttons have now been given a home in a better tin that I'd been saving especially for them.

    5. Finding, quite by chance, a programme about the Altzheimers Choir on iplayer. It made me cry on and off the whole way through and the sadness, unfairness and tragedy was huge, but the love, honesty, care and joy in the stories was even bigger and such a great pleasure to witness. It was mixed in with OS community singing and people determined to find a way to continue fostering their love for their partners - really magical. Wish I'd thought of singing to my gran when she was alive and living with Alzheimers. I'll post a link but if you watch it be warned - have the hankies ready.
