    5 for yesterday.

    1) Looked after MrN's son4 and got on OK. Hadn't looked after any of them since walking out last Thursday when their behaviour got so bad. :-S

    2) Dad came and fixed MrN's boiler. Which is a pleasure in that he (Dad) tends to be happiest in his garden and doesn't usually agree to help other people. He was an engineer so kept saying things like "Oh, it looks like a Dracon pump" and asking ME questions about it - I don't even have central heating!

    3) Boys went to karate and I spoke to 2 other mums while we were there and their sons are coming over to play with mine during Easter.

    4) Got smaller son some new school shoes with no incidents. When he started school, I couldn't get him any proper shoes because he was a baby size 2. Now he's a big size 1!

    5) MrN came round. :-)

Which is all good but besides the above, I felt pretty ghastly. I think a "little talk" is about due. :-( The reasons are too many and boring to mention but there always seems to be something where I think "That's it! Must end this relationship now!" and then I don't... So I not only feel sad but also a bit stupid.

    Morning all!

KB - glad you found some pleasures yesterday, sometimes it can be a struggle!

CCP - hope you're feeling better this morning and that the tabs are working super fast!

Savingqueen - keeping your resolutions is better late than never lol!

    My pleasures:

    1. Being able to throw all the windows open again, not only is it lovely to have all the fresh air, but the cats can come in and out without mewling outside the front door and driving me nuts!

    2. Getting several bits of paperwork done yesterday, all of which I'd been putting off, which is one of my worst habits! Whilst checking and filing bank statements I discovered that child benefit wasn't being paid for ds, so they are investigating as I should be getting it for him, yippee, some extra money (well not really, but you know what I mean!).

    3. Sorting out vouchers, and deciding to check my tesco ones online, I had about £30 in paper ones here, but it seems I actually have £90 of unused ones, was a lovely surprise - so recommend a quick check on the tesco website to you all!

    4. Kids all having done their chores when I got home, tidying, hoovering, dw and lawns (meaning front and back, not that we have extensive grounds lol!).

    5. Getting some heavily reduced pancakes and toms after work, and picking up a couple of packs of value pasta which are currently 9p each - not great for boiling and serving with a sauce as it's quite thick, but great for pasta bakes as it retains its shape and keeps a bit of bite!

    6. John Lewis delivering dd1's bday pressie before I went to work yesterday, I only ordered it the evening before! Great service as I'd opted for free delivery which is meant to take up to 5 days. So all I need to do now is wrap all her bits and bobs.

    7. Washing pile looking significantly smaller, one last wash and I should have conquered it!

    8. Waking up feeling exhausted (wondering if dream about swimming wore me out lol), which isn't a great pleasure, but I'm not working until lunchtime so I can have a rest this morning which is a much appreciated luxury :)

    9. Carnations I bought reduced last week are all just coming into flower, not only do they look lovely they smell gorgeous too.

    10. Listening to Nemisis on iplayer as I type this!

Have a good day all xx

evening all! Thursday night, crickets being noisy & almost dark o'clock at 6.15pm.

1.Went into school for 10 minutes......an hour later still counting PTA raffle money. Have had a very succesful return to our Easter Raffle!

    2. Got a run home from one of mum's who is on PTA. What is a 15-20 minute walk is only a few minutes in car! So nice to avoid the hills!

3.My older 2 were off school today as it was Parent/Teacher meetings. I had a 5 minute meeting with my sons teacher. So we had to get bus, walk for 15 minutes.....5 minute chat.....15 minute walk & luckily didn't have too long to wait for a bus. It was a very warm 26o.

    4. Got a lovely letter from my letter writing friend so have written back. Whilst emails are nice (hey! any communication is nice!) I love getting a real letter!

    5. Easy peasy tea of macaroni cheese .

Last day of school tomorrow ,so looking forward to some relaxing starts to my day!

Ooooo I think i'm becoming sufficiently old style enough to join in now!

Some of these are from yesterday so not sure if they count!!

    1) Taking DS1 and DS2 and the dog to the common for a walk and to pick dandelions for dandelion wine
    2) Cutting unused stamps off an envelope and using them on two more letters this morning
    3) Going to DSD Indian Market at school yesterday and buying their home made goods
    4) Getting picture from DS2's pre school of our three (late) chickens (RIP!!!) (it's brilliant I love it!)
    5) Getting a load of seeds and potatoes out in pots in the garden.

    Hi all

Been busy for a few days so away from the computer.

Carolyntia, belated hugs! Glad that things are going better now.

Kittikins, sending prayers and positive thoughts for your friend and her poorly baby.

Welcome to the thread to Annelouise and miecherox!

CCP get well NOW! Hope that by now you ARE well, as I have missed posting for a few days.

Ladyhawk, OUCH re. shoes (horrible thing, shoes that bite back!) and double OUCH for the parking ticket, and then the inconsiderate driver, what a day, poor you! Hope that nice things happen to you to compensate (((HUG))).

Here is a handful of random pleasures:

1 - First and foremost, the weather!

2 - Yesterday lunchtime, lunch with DH near his workplace.

3 - Returned most of the (too expensive) clothes that I had allowed DH and the sales girl to persuade me to buy. Very beautiful stuff, but so unnecessary now that I am in the middle of a diet and losing successfully (but a couple of stones and sizes away from my target). I felt really pressurised and bought loads of stuff. Now I only kept the trench coat which I need as I do not have a lighter coat, but all the other stuff is back in the shop and the credit card has stopped crying!

4 - Planted loads of seeds for the allotment, can't wait to start seeing the first seeds germinating!

5 - Started re-watching Life on Mars with DH, getting the CDs from a free trial online, last night we watched first two episode and it was just great!

6 - Breakfast with DH and DD (unusual as she is a fairly late sleeper), big hug with DD and a lot of laughter.

7 - Planning a day of gardening and a friend might come here later to plant a few more seeds with me and do a few seed-swaps.

Have a good day everybody x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

CCP – hope you soon feel better.
Kitchenbunny – sorry to hear your DH is under a lot of stress. I had that situation a while ago and once it was improved, DH said the best thing I could do was not keep asking what I could do, but to just listen when he needed me to. Just try and keep strong for him but also look after yourself.
Ladyhawk – hope your feet feel better today and that your appeal is successful, fingers crossed.

    OK – today’s pleasures
    1. Getting some of the Fairy WUL from Tesco that works out at 47p. Put 2 through to make sure glitch still working then went back to get another 6 to share between family and friends.
    2. Managing to get some plants in the garden this morning, even though we had heavy rain. They had to go in today as they were starting to look a little sad.
    3. Had a lovely warm bath and did my hair when I came back in – felt quite luxurious sitting in the bath in the middle of the morning.
    4. Called in to see my elderly neighbour. Her husband is still in hospital and is very up and down, but seems to be having more up days this week than down days so fingers crossed. She was rushed into hospital too at the weekend with heart problems caused by all the stress but she is feeling better now too.
5.DH had a company meeting “for all staff – everyone had to attend no matter what other plans they had for today”. Had a sleepless night worrying about what it was going to entail and although not good, not as bad as we thought so certainly thankful for that.
6Sun now shining so off into the garden to do some weeding as tea is ready, just need to reheat leftovers from last night, so no cooking.

Thank you, shopndrop, I'll try to be there for him and listen when necessary. :)

Well, it's a little better so far today. I'm listening to the Food Programme podcast so I can get some more ideas while I'm out and about doing things. It focusses more on food and social history/present situation, so it's fascinating. One more day until the weekend, and then I can hopefully get back into the garden. Given that we've not really had big teas over the course of the week (DH being out, me being tired, etc), I've taken a couple of portions of HM lasagne out of the freezer and we'll have that with a bit of garlic bread tonight. Win win.

    So here are my pleasures:

    1. I had a look in the garden when I got home, and my thyme, basil and parsley are still alive!
    2. My chilli plant at work is sprouting another leaf.
    3. An easy tea for tonight.
    4. Feeling a little put out when I saw someone bulking out mince with oats on Superscrimpers, but laughed at myself when I realised it was because I didn't really want DH to find out what I do! ;)
    5. Going to set aside a little time to do some sewing tonight. Maybe even in the garden!

My thoughts are with the people of Japan again - I've just read they've had another earthquake, so my thoughts go out to them. Have a good evening, everyone.

    KB xx

    Afternoon all.

Thank you very much for your get well wishes - they seem to be working as I'm starting to feel a little better this afternoon. :)

Kitchenbunny - that's good news about your herbs. You reminded me to check mine and it looks like my thyme has also survived (amazingly - I'm usually very good at killing them :o), although there doesn't seem to be any life in the oregano. :(

miecherox - I have to confess I've never even tried dandelion wine - what does it taste like, if you don't mind me asking?

mummysaver - ditto on having the windows open for the mog to come in and out, although mine enjoys yowling so much he does it even when the door's open, just for the fun of making a noise. :rotfl:

Ladyhawk - I hope today made up for yesterday's problems, and that your feet aren't too sore from those nasty shoes.

Carolyntia - the Cravendale advert always scares me a little - it's the thought of my mog being able to open doors and cartons by himself, I think - I'd never be able to keep a tin of fish in the house again!

Tealady - I hope your DD slept well last night - it's so miserable being unable to sleep without nightmares. (I'm prone to them myself when stressed, so she has my particular sympathy.)

savingqueen - well done for remembering two of your resolutions. As for the others, my DM always says 'if you can't remember it, it can't have been that important in the first place'. ;)

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Beautiful warm sunshine. :) One of the very few good things about being off work sick is that I can sit with the doors open and enjoy it, rather than being stuck in a sweltering office (our record's 26.7 degrees - and that was in February!).

    2) Feeling a bit better this afternoon so I went out in the garden and pruned the pretty variegated thingy into a tidier shape.

    3) My thyme plant has survived. :j It's the fifth one I've had, and the first to make it through the winter. :o

    4) A colleague at work is very kindly looking after the arrangements for a seminar I'm holding next week, so it's not a desperate rush when I go back to work (tomorrow, I hope).

    5) I'm not very hungry this evening so I'm going to make the most of the nice warmth and have a salad - very summery! :)

    Have a lovely evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

Can I join in? It's good to count the good things sometimes.
More this week than just today but:

    1) I conned OH into eating slightly stale bread last night. He normally only eats it the day it's bought and likes it really soft and fresh and squishy! Had half a french stick, def. gone a bit hard, ran it under the tap for a few seconds, stuck in oven, and served lovely fresh hot soft bread, which he scoffed down. Never actually tried that before, so it works!

    2) Went for a lovely 15 minute stroll round the sunny park this lunchtime from work, hello flowers, hello birds, really cleared my head and relaxed.

    3) Drove to the Co-Op I discovered hidden away in middle of residential streets instead of going to Asda the other night, haven't been to one since I was a kid, wow, not as much choice but much better prices! Massive salmon fillet that fed both of us £2 instead of about £5 for 2 tiny bits in Asda, pack of rump steak, enough for the two of us, £2.35 and very nice it was too. 400g Dairy milk £2. I'm a convert.

    4) Took Asda own brand anti bacterial handwash (55p for massive one) into office to top up the Carex ones in the staff loos. It's about 1/6th of the price and no-one's noticed yet. I'm on an office cost-cutting exercise this year.

    5) Making apple crumble this weekend with the last of the frozen stewed apples from autumn from my parents' garden tree

    6) Gave myself a nice home pedicure and pamper the other day including a foot massage with lots of moisturising cream, mmmmmm, wish I could persuade OH to oblige but better than nothing, still love it.

    7) Got three vases full of beautiful daffodils of all sizes and colours and styles from parents garden. Thanks, dad! Can't look at them without smiling, they are so bright and full of spring.

    8) REally enjoying reading my current book: Solar by Ian McEwan. Going to a book club for the first time this month, this is the book for that. Will be nice to get to know some local people, haven't made any new friends yet since I moved here a few years ago, luckily not too far so still have all old friends, but want to meet some people.
