Well ladies, it's Sunday morning here! Our clocks went back through the night, so summer is officially over however, nice to see it lighter this morning but the offset is it wil be darker earlier. I'm in an upside down ,back to front land! I think it will feel most strange having dark nights at tea-time at this time of year, I think I've said before ,we don't have a period of dusk it just goes dark!

It is also not Mother's day here, not until 8th May, so luckily I saw on here it was today in UK, so managed to get flowers & chocs for both mums for 9.99 pounds each. Which was ideal for me ,so far away. They also both got photos of kids delivered in same post as flowers ,which although a fluke, was a nice touch!!

    Tealady:
I think the old saying 'you can choose your friends but not your family ' is very true!
Ladyhawk: congrats about being an auntie, it's a very special job! I am going to be the Greatest Auntie Ever in September time, (great auntie is ageing....I am surely too young to be a great auntie?) Enjoy your new nephew!
    Mummysaver: When is spudette due?
Sparrer: well done on all those NSD's. I economise in certain areas so I can afford to do nice things( but only if they're a bargain!)
CCP: I have had some very nice random conversations with lovely people, since we moved here. It is so nice just to start chatting with someone who you have never met & come away feeling better for it.
Village life: er.....next time you're having gammon for tea let me know, I'll try & get flights over....one of my favourite meals (one of them ....there's many!) is gammon & potatoes & veg with cheese sauce. They don't seem to do a gammon joint over here, like back home.

    Saturday's pleasures:
1.Went for coffees & scones before shopping, had a good read at papers. Coffee was free!
2.Did shopping, not as cheap this week but did need loo roll & dishwasher powder, so take those off & it was still lower than I've been. That was my Aldi shop, then next is my Woolies shop & got a lot of meat reduced for freezer, so that is stocked up again for next month. Woolworths/Safeway (same group) & Coles are the 2 main supermarkets here. Not anywhere near as cheap as back home but have started having a price war over milk, bread ,toilet paper(?) ....however, all these items are much cheaper in Aldi.
3.DD1 was taken out for lunch for a friend's birthday so DD2 & I went to cinema. Not cheap at all , was 20 pounds for 1 adult & 1 child. I was quite shocked, however, we brought juice from home & I did a bag of popcorn in microwave before we left! Film was totaly average & although dd2 enjoyed it I could have lived without seeing it!
4.Home.....and lay snuggled up under quilt reading my birthday book, so nearly finished it! It was a cool 15o yesterday. The house felt quite cold, not putting on heating yet.....just shivered in my cardigan with a cold nose! It's floor vented heating we have, there are no vents in bedrooms, but previous owners said it was warm enough when rest of house warms up......hmmmm, we'll see! It is alos a very noisy system, so think I may miss my radiators this winter! It does get cooler in Melbourne over winter, & there will be snow in the Victorian Alps ( maybe 90-120 min drive away).

    5. We had a chinese takeaway for dinner, was nice & sat & watched a nice film with Jennifer Aniston in it from years ago......however, films take ages here on TV as we have ad breaks at least every 10 minutes! But it had a nice happy ending!....just a bit late for me!

Well, I've blethered, enough. Hello to all new posters, it's lovely to hear your pleasures. I always start my day checking to see what everyone else has been up to.

Happy Mother's Day when it comes to you...I need to wait another month!

Frith sweetie, I agree with Carolyntia, he's probably embarrassed about his little brats' awful behaviour and is at home wracking his brains to work out how to get them to be nice boys again, and how to make it up to you. Big hugs and next time you fancy getting tipsy, tip me the wink and DD and I will pop up for the weekend *hic*, I know how to handle my ale these days ;):) xx

    Saturday's treats :)

    1. After my heavy night out on Friday, I slept like a proverbial babe and woke up feeling as fresh as a daisy! I really didn't deserve to, that's for sure, but I'm certainly not going to complain!! ;)
    2. Spent a very relaxing day with OH (yup, new name for MrA, I think it's time :):) ), just mooching about at home.
    3. We decided against getting a takeaway for dinner and so, bless him, when we popped to Waitrose to get some bits, he insisted on paying the bulk of the bill as after all, he said he would have been paying for dinner anyway.
    4. DD sounds like she's having a whale of a time at my parents, she went out for the day with my brother and his girlfriend to a fabulous place that we used to go to a lot as children :)
    5. Thanks to a poster on here, I have another new easy but very tasty-sounding soup recipe to try this week :)
    6. OH and I had a fab night out at the opera - I was given free tickets through work, I didn't even mind that it was sung in English (I'm a bit of a snob, I prefer operas to be sung in their original language usually), but maybe that was because of the company I was keeping *swoon*
    7. Bought tickets for DD and I to see a fab play during the summer holidays, she's going to be soooo excited when I tell her :)
    8. Bought tickets for OH and I to see Pirates of Penzance (my penance for being taken to the ballet, as it doesn't sound like my cup of tea....), and as he's registered disabled, my ticket is free as his carer. A bittersweet pleasure, that one......
    9. Have had an amazing night's sleep by my usual standards and am looking forward to enjoying mother's day up with my family once I drop OH back off to his mumsy.

Mummies: hope you feel loved and treasured today. Non-mummies/chaps: hope you do too, I'm not greedy, I hope everyone will have a lovely Sunday and hopefully the sun will shine for us all in some way xx

    Morning all!

Mhagster - spudette is due on 1st August, but they are talking about inducing her a bit early, as all my labours have been very short and they are concerned about me being on my own!

Frith - try not to worry too much, talk to him, scary but usually works! How old are his boys - sometimes boys especially like to try and assert some kind of authority and have very odd ways of doing it!

My five for last night/this morning:

    1. Woke to gorgeous sunshine, girls are still asleep and ds stayed over at a friend's house, so all is peaceful and I've enjoyed a lovely cup of Earl Grey!

    2. Buying the cutest tiniest pink booties, and they were only £2 in Asda lol!

    3. Having a lovely night's sleep.

    4. Girls all being lovely and going to bed quite early for a weekend, which meant I could too!

    5. House still looking fairly tidy when I got up, sometimes I think the gremlins come in the night!

  • :grouphug:to all of you in need, Frith the trouble is with men they rarely seem to confess how they truely feel unless they are drunk or your walking out the door. Im sure it will sort itself out and if not perhaps there a a Mr Wonderful round the corner without the troublesome sons? Keep your chin up.

My pleasures for the last couple of days
    1. Spent the last 2 nights up untill dawn talking to MrD over skype. Dispite the time difference it can be done! While the dog got jealous and Mr Ds cat decided to try and eat his headphones. Something tells me they are feeling left out.
    2. Mr D's youngest Son sneakily talking to me over skype while his dad nipped to the shops and he's normally so shy too im not the evil Daddies Gf afterall :rotfl:he is only 10.
    3. Mr D treating me to my online game subscription because i couldnt afford it:o
    4. Having left over cash from this weeks GC envelope.
    5. Realising ill be able to pay more than i was expecting off the CC this month due to some reductions in monthly DDs.
    6. Walking for an hour with the dog in the sunshine
    7. Managing to get all the washing done this weekend and put up on the airers in a room with the window wide open. almost like drying outside :rotfl:

    Evening all,

Hugs to everyone who needs em.
Frith - I can often be just horrible to myself, judgemental, the works. Try and be kinder to yourself - nurture yourself. I find that if I have late nights/poor sleep, lots of arguments/shouting and not enough rest I turn into a nightmare of a git! I've not been keeping up with this thread but I hope everything works out for you. I hate that film, called something like - he's just not that into you. It bluntly expresses that men act according to whether they are into you or not - and us girlies fail to (or want to) see this. Lick your wounds and start with the small things. Like going swimming and going to the church with your kids. :A

I've had a very lazy day - I've been really tired so I've just got up from an afternoon nap - how lazy is that!

    1. Decluttering the house - I never seize to be amazed by how much "stuff" is in this house. But it is lessening and every carrier bag that gets to the local hospice shop makes me feel loads better about it.
    2. Simple lunch of tomatoes on toast.
    3. Cat was all sweet and lovely and cuddling today. Found out why - a nice "present" of "sick" bleugh upstairs, the little s*d! But the cuddling puddycat was nice!
    4. Seeing a yellow bush in absolute gorgeous blossom today in the garden. It's been left to its own devices and its very happy thank you very much.
    5. Spring is on its way :)
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

    Evening all.

I hope you've all had a lovely day today - particularly you, Frith, as you really deserve one.

    1) Long lie-in this morning. I haven't been feeling well recently (I really must make a doctor's appointment this week :o) and thought a bit of extra sleep might help. It didn't really, but the lie-in was nice anyway!

    2) NSD.

    3) Day two of the Great Campanula Cull and the raised bed is now clear - and I found my missing hosta under all the leaves! :j

    4) My sister texted me to ask how to remove tea stains from mugs, and I was able to reply with a good OS solution. (Wonderful stuff, bicarb. ;))

    5) Changed the bed so I have nice clean sheets to sleep on tonight.

    6) Nice chat on the phone with my DM, and she liked the mother's day card and present I'd got for her. :)

Have a very pleasant evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    1. The joy of arriving at my parents' house at lunchtime and getting a MASSIGVE hug from DD (she's been up there since Friday) and whilst I had OH to keep me entertained, I always miss her like mad
    2. DD bought me some beautiful flowers and a huge novel that will make War and Peace look like a short story!
    3. Lovely morning with OH before dropping him back home to enjoy mother's day with his family :)
    4. Managed to "only" spend £8 in a shop when I had to stop off on the way to my parents to buy something warm to go under/over my existing outfit as the weather up there was far colder than chez moi :( Thankfully I got away with a pair of leggings rather than a whole new outfit!! Naughtily £2 of the £8 was on groceries, none of which were strictly needed so my £100 grocery challenge is going to be harder than I thought :( What is the expression "I can resist everything except temptation itself"? Sounds like a mantra of my life in many ways!
    5. Really watched my speed and revs when driving home, as I filled up the car with a fortune's worth of petrol, and really want it to last as long as humanly possible.
    6. Stretched out a small bowl of veggie stuff from the freezer into dinner for 2 for 2 days by adding a tin of chopped tomatoes and some more veg :) It wouldn't have been nice on its own, but was yummy with the extra additions.
    7. DM sent me home with a big pot of double cream so I'll make the Nigella orange icecream tonight, slurp!
    8. DM also sent us home with some slices of scrummy looking cake so I don't need to make any for DD's packed lunches for the week - yay :)

Think I need an early night tonight, my throat is really sore and one of my ears feels strange too......grr.....I don't want to get whatever it was that OH had this week. I think a night tucked up on my own watching Lewis beckons :):)

    Hi Everyone,

ooh Kittikins - MrA has become OH???? Oohlala!

I've been feeling a little strange (well stanger than usual!). I have been feeling a little dizzy and had to take a moment at badminton and when I was gardening. I feel a bit headachy now which isn't good. I hardly ever get headaches :(

    1) Played badminton (though only won one game)

    2) Planted out my apple tree, tomato plant, cucumber, clematis and two goji berry bushes.:) I also mowed the lawn. All of this is not good for my tendonitis in my shoulder.:(

    3) Baked 40 red velvet cupcakes and 30 twinks to sell at work tomorrow to raise money for my Moonwalk in June. Some of them do need a lot of icing on to make them presentable but at least they taste yummy and are very moist.

    4) Spoke to my mum on the phone

    5) It's a monkeys wedding!!! (raining when it is sunny)

    Have a great week

    L

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Hi all

Happy Mothers Day to all mums here!

Mummysaver and Sparrer thanks for congratulations re. no job! It feels right, I know I would have been very unhappy there. I had the negative feeling confirmed when DS told me that the man had called me at home while I was out and, incredibly, told him all about me not getting the job and why! Talk about unprofessional....

CCP well done on weight loss (from your earlier post which I had missed before) and hope you feel better, and that the doctor reassures you.

    Frith
, hope your situation with MrN and his (horrid) sons improves in the best possible way for you and your boys (((HUGS))).

Ladyhawk, hope the dizziness goes away, perhaps you are just a bit tired, it sounds like you work really hard!

A few random pleasures for the last couple of days:

1 - Yesterday DH took me out shopping at my favourite clothes shop and really treated me for Mother's Day! He treated me so well that one of the items (a fancy linen jacket, bright red!) is going to be returned because it was JUST TOO EXTRAVAGANT! He agrees with me, but the other stuff (trench coat, shoes and dress) are staying as I need them for the spring-summer season. YIPPEE!

2 - Today breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, low-carb fry-up, yummy (he ate a slice of fried bread, naughty man!).

3 - Trip to the farmers market, as it was quite late the organic greens stall had reduced everything to half price and we came back with a couple of Kgs of fantastic greens and salads. They won't go wasted!

4 - I had a bit of an upset coming back home (nothing too serious) and DD was here when I came in, a bit tearful, and she gave me the sweetest cuddle.

5 - DS is having a first date with a girl he likes tonight, I hope it goes really well for them!

6 - Both DD and DS are out tonight (we will celebrate Mother's Day another evening, we are not too formal that way!) so DH and I are planning an Indian takeaway and to watch American Beauty on DVD. We might even treat ourselves to a shot of vodka and lemon!

Have a good night, all x

Sorry but I had to edit to add no 7 - Viewing the most amazing sunset sky from my window, all red and pink and pale lilacs, so lovely!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
