Hello Cheapskate, lovely to read your posts
Well done on the finding a £5 note

Evening all, here's my pleasures for today:
1. Found a lovely card for Mother's Day.
2. Visited a local fruit and veg market stall and picked up a big bowl of carrots, onions and broccoli for £1
3. The rain. It was actually really nice to feel the rain today.
4. Made a big batch of gammon shank soup.
5. I drove somewhere new today, and didn't have too many problems navigating back.
I'm really exhausted tonight. I'm not sure exactly why, as I've been getting enough sleep - it just feels difficult getting fully rested. Anyway. I shall try and do a few more things from my to do list before bed. Have a good evening, everyone.

Evening
Kittikins - The cake stand sounds lovely, what a great way to use the plates
Frith - Sorry to hear about your son, children can be so cruel sometimes.
Blimus - Hope you are all feeling better and enjoy your trip to london
Pleasures for today:
1. Managed to catch up with some ironing this morning
2. Free lunch at work today of lamb chops. I resuced them from a lunch for the directors yesterday, yummy
3. Walked home from work tonight, nice to get some fresh air
4. While DD was at guides tonight popped to Mr.T for an early weekly shop. I stocked up on loads of supplies using the buy 1 get 2 free offers. Freezer is now full to bursting as are the cupboards. Next couple of weeks shopping should be very low cost:money:
5. OH picked me and DD up on the way back from guides so not as far to walk.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
So for yesterday:
4. Made really good rice. Sounds silly but I find it really hard to make and this one time it was light, fluffy and very tasty.
Do you always rinse your rice thoroughly? I rinse it through BEFORE cooking to wash out excess starch. In the 70s I saw TV actress/cook Madhur Jaffrey rinse rice in 14 changes of water, and I've always done this, until no more starch appears. A small faff, for really good results. I usually cook mine in the microwave, time varies depending on quantity of rice cooked and variety but usually c 20 mins for white, 5 mins more for brown.
1. Son had day off, I work from home - he used it to help me, largely, usually he doesn't!
2. Outhouse well and truly decluttered by son.
3. Gorgeous stew made with reduced to clear veg and lamb.
4. Managing not to put heating on as a result of cooking stew.
5. Chat with sister in law on phone.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Hi all
Welcome to the thread Cheapskate!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - The getting up early and making DH's breakfast and packed lunch seem to have become routine, so I no longer feel bad about being up at 7(ish), good early start of the day.
2 - Shopping at Sainsbugs, got £10 champagne, one for me and one for my friend. Good for Mothers' Day treat!
3 - Started using my eco-cosmetics and they are really good, they make me look natural but "better"!
4 - Met up with friend (former colleague) and we had dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant, with the 50% off card and tap water for drinks, we spent very litte and ate amazingly well.
5 - I did not get the job (I had a feeling this would be the case but was dreading in case they would offer it to me - I really did not want it but would have accepted it out of a sense of responsibility). It was obviously not meant to be and I am sure there are better opportunities out there!
Good night all xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning all!
Frith - hope the school sort it out fast, have to say that the schools round here come down really hard on bullying, hope lil son feels better after his chat with big son, and that Mr N sorts out his boys!
Kittikins - going to have a look at that site, was admiring cake stands in a coffee shop that seemed to be made this way when I was out with a friend!
Blimus - hope that you are soon a bug free home!
CCP - I love courgettes, but do get inundated with them over the summer! Roasted with other veg and lots of herbs and garlic, esp if done on the bbq, is also a good way of using them, they take on a bit more taste when charred!
Carolyntia - fingers crossed about the job, and well done with giving up smoking!
Caterina - well done on not getting the job lol!
Cheapskate - reading other peoples apleasures always reminds me that I am very blessed, even when the big things aren't going right, there's always lots of little things to keep me smiling, and at the end of the day it's the lil things that make up most of my days!
Right my five for yesterday/today so far:
1. Having lots of vouchers ready yesterday to get Spudette some clothes, then finding they were also on 3 for 2! Think I now have enough bits and bobs for her!
2. ds informing me that weather is due to improve for the weekend, yippee, I'm not working either!
3. dd1 loading and unloading dw yesterday without being asked, then bringing me a cuppa when I went to bed early, bless her!
4. dd2's behaviour improving greatly at school and at home, and thanks to her computer and phone being taken away she is also sleeping much better, which no doubt is part of the issue! So I think that I will be removing them from her in the evenings when she does have them back, so that she can sleep!
5. Biggest pleasure of all, today is dd3's 10th birthday! She had her main pressie early, so today unwrapped a few bits and bobs, and was overjoyed to find a large bouncy, glitter filled ball! She is having a friend home for dinner, and has requested hm pizza - yippee OS rules!
Have a good day all xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Got my laptop back! Still stupidly slow but at least the screen is attached to the keyboard and that's the main thing :-D
Determined to make today a better day. To cut a very long story short, MrN's sons were so nasty to my smaller son last night that we gave up and went home. :-(
Anyway, 5 for yesterday if I can...
1) Lovely FatFace jacket came from Ebay for bigger son - 99p!
2) Went out for chips near the Clee Hills.
3) Popped down to see my sister and had a cup of tea and a good moan.
4) Bigger son spoke many words of sense about the whole situation yesterday.
5) MrN popped round. :-)0 -
hello, Friday night here, feeling ready for bed!
1. After having a lovely chat with my darling neice I was running seriously behind this morning, so I just threw on clothes to take DD2 to school! Came home & had a lovely, deep, hot bath for a whole hour & just enjoyed reading my book! Very decadent!
2. Wrote a list of things to be done on my new 'Things to do list' and ticked them all off! I do love a list!
3. Made a lasagne & some vanilla cupcakes which did look lovely, however, I still have not succumbed to the temptation of sugar!
4. Everybody home and we went out for a photo shoot at school, it's a fundraiser which costs $15 & you get an A4 sized print. $15 goes to school & obviously photographer makes their money on extra photos. However the packages are actually quite reasonably priced for what you get....will see on the night, it's another month before we go to view.
5.Got all the beds stripped, dried & ironed & back on beds. It's cooler in mornings, we were able to see our breath steam this morning and cooling down late afternoon, so I need to time when I get my washing out! No more late afternoon drying sessions for a few months!
Hope you all enjoy your April Fools Day!

Morning all
Mine for yesterday -
1. Called in to see mum and dad and took them so HM cakes and biscuits. Had plenty of time for a catch up chat too.
2. Ironing all done so clear for the weekend.
3. Managed to sort out my ISA just before the end of the tax year so at least I have some tax free savings, every little helps.
4. DH working from home today, just love having his company around.
5. Off later for a weekend away to celebrate being with OH for 35 years. It is an MSE weekend (apart from the petrol costs) as we have a touring caravan and I tend to prepare food before we go so that we aren't paying rip off prices to eat out. We can then enjoy picnic lunches out and a lovely HM meal when we get back in at tea time.
Enjoy your weekend all and back on Monday.0 -
My five for yesterday are
1. A good pilates class - made me feel much better.
2. Managed to stick to my list whilst shopping.
3. Received a phone call from a company about some negative comments I made on a comment card. They are going to investigate further.
4. Sent an ebay parcel and listed some more items which already have bids.
5. Good chat with a couple of friends whilst walking my dog.0
