    Morning all!

    Good luck for Wednesday Caterina!

My pleasure for the weekend and today:

    1. The glorious sunshine, felt very springlike, and all the blossom and flowers in bloom look so lovely and cheerful.

    2. dd2 cleaning and tidying the kitchen yesterday whilst I was at work, so nice to come home to clear surfaces!

    3. Delicious roast for dinner last night, everyone was full and happy!

    4. Reading the papers yesterday evening and remembering to pick up a copy of NOTW for the £5 voucher, now must remember to cut it out and pop it in my purse so when I shop this week it'll be ready to use!

    5. dd1 planning out the front garden, and picking up a new knitting mag for her when we popped to the shop for 99p, she can now cast on and off on her own and is very happy. We are going to choose some nice yarn next weekend so that she can make a blanket ready for Spud's arrival, bless her!

    Almost Monday bedtime for me!

Been a good day....(apart from seeing super mouse dash across the kitchen floor first thing this morning! went under the dishwasher! There had been no evidence in cupboards after we blocked up any gaps! Wee beastie! So 2 traps bought today & husband told to deal with it tonight & first thing! Our daughter is seriously, seriously phobic about them so cannot have her knowing about it or she would be in a terrible state!)

    1. Walked dd2 to school and went to assembly. It's National Cultural Diversity week....so there was a wee show put on to celebrate all the different cultures that make up Victoria....and Scotland got a mention!

2.walked into our town & had my Monday mooch around op shops! Most pleased with my purchases! Got a dress for me, top for dd1 and shorts & skirt for dd2, all 1/2 price in blue ticket week! Then have had my eye on a double quilted throw. It's pink gingham and so prety. It had a valance which is no use for my bed and would be easy access for spiders so nah! , so will probably use it as fabric for something! also had 2 very pretty pillowcases. It was $17.99 for the whole set.About 11 pounds.

3.Went to library & watched the Casualty episode from the week after we moved, got a few magazines out and picked up my op shop stuff & went for bus!

    4. Home....tidied up ...again! Got washing all done & dried, forecast had been for rain but we never got any but very warm & humid. Squeeezed my quilt into WM & put it on a 95o wash....so very clean!

5.Made soup for tea, cupcakes but my icing was suffering in the humidity, banana loaf and a plum & apple sponge for dd1 & her dad! I have gone 2 weeks without cakes/sweets etc. It is indeed a sacrifice, have nearly succumbed a few times! Tonight I had a tin of pears!

Have just had to pay almost 600 pounds for getting gas CH flushed through in our empty house back home :(

    Enjoy your Monday x

    Hi all

Thank you all for more good wishes re. job interview!

Ladyhawk, in a way I am looking for the perfect job, really, I suppose! It need not be perfect in all its aspects but it has to be perfect (or almost so) in the treatment of staff, quality of work life and the general atmosphere in the workplace. I was used to a horrible atmosphere in local government (it is almost a given!) but in my last job I hadn't realised how many bad feelings were floating about unresolved and that really affected me - I could not understand what was going on and it took me nearly the whole 6 months to realise (some of it had to do with the way my recruitment had been handled so it affected me quite directly!). I have had too many years of putting up with grumpy, unpleasant and utterly rude colleagues and bosses and a culture that does not challenge uselessness. Now that I am fortunate enough to be able to pick and choose (and very grateful for this), I shall try to avoid second best if I can, for sure!

Reverbe, good to see you still lurking around, how are you?

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Early start, got DH and DD fed (breakfast and packed lunch for both), then had mine in bed after they left (peaceful!).

2 - In spite of not feeling 100% when I got up, I managed to motivate myself to go to the Over 50s keep fit and stayed for the whole class.

3 - Weighed myself at the gym - now, I know that the scales there are over-generous by appx 7lbs, however they show a good loss even if it is not the correct figure, looks like I am down another couple of lbs! YIPPEEEEEE!

4 - Having tried for days and days to get two free tickets for the screening of Limitless, I managed to do so this afternoon, so DH and I are having a treat this evening!

5 - Lunch with DS, vegeburgers and salad.

6 - Laundry out on the line, probably dry by now, thanks to the lovely weather!

Have a good evening, all x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hi bit of a lurker here, avid reader of the old school board. Posted a few times but nothing substantial. Big changes in my circumstances have led me here and i now vow to post a few times a week to keep me in the MSE way so here goes. My first old school pleasures post (im a wee bit excited lol)

    * LSD (only bought the paper and milk today)
    * Discovering Nescafe Alto Rica coffee (£2 currently in Asda) and it truey is the only coffee ive ever tasted that tastles just like Costa or Starbucks coffee. No need to "treat" myself on these everytime i nip up our town centre then lol
    * 2 lots of washing on the line and dried today
    * a bit of a rustle up for dinner from various bits and bobs from the freezer - chicken drums and thighs with maggi garlic cook in the bag, some auntie bessie roast spuds and SP mixed veg
    * enjoying my son and daughter ouit playing in the back garden in

I always enjoying reading peoples posts and look forward to them daily with my coffee in the morning.....so i suppose technically that is one of my old school pleasures lol

    Having my usual catch-up.

    1. Foraging round the garden and picking enough young Swiss chard leaves, sorrel leaves, rocket and endive seedling thinnings to make a lovely salad to use use yesterday's cold lamb joint.
    2. Having a very non MSE visit to Costco to stock up in advance of Wednesday's budget (i.e. wine), and discovering that they had discounted First class & Second class stamps on sale there, so bought a bulk supply in advance of the April 4th price increase.
    3. Potting on all my pepper & chilli seedings from their trays. My window sills are gradually filling up, and I haven't even sown the tomatoes, climbing beans, courgettes & cucumbers yet!
    4. Getting the patio furniture out of the garage and giving it a good wash down in the sunshine, so we're now ready for spontaneous al fresco meals if we get the odd really warm sunny days.
    5. Reading Katherine Stewart's books "A Croft in the Hills" and her Scottish Crofting Diaries, borrowed from the library. I think somebody on here recommended them. I've found them so delightful in terms of the way she relished in their simple life.

Afternoon, everyone. Thought I'd add some of my pleasures for the day:

    1. Did a lot of work in the garden, and have cleared a lot of weeds from both the front and back garden. I need to buy a new fork though, as the tines on mine have twisted!
    2. A nice quiet day. I found doing a spot of digging very relaxing.
    3. Fajitas for tea.
    4. The car is clean! I get a buzz from looking at it.
    5. The sun has been out, and while it hasn't been out all day it hasn't been too cold so that's good.

    Have a lovely evening, everyone.

Hello all, day off work to use up hols before new year starts in April so a nice break, mine for today -

    1. Two dresses from Tesco arrived, both great and will be wearing one to mates wedding on Friday (quite MSE as were £20 each- not bad for wedding attire) and have made own hairpiece
    2. Cleaned the shower head with white vinegar - brilliant result
    3. Got two sweetpea plants (£1) at the market & made a little tripod stand thing for them with some sticks & bit of ribbon for the balcony
    4. Went to the next village along - Todmorden for grocery shopping for a change - they do amazing community/Guerilla gardening http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/projects/growing-round-town so had a look at what I could spot growing in the sun. Very MSE.
    5. Bedding on the washing line, windows open & cleanish flat.

    Evening all.

    1) Sunshine. smiley-happy005.gif

    2) My spiraea (I think that's how you spell it - the plant with pretty white flowers) is taking on its annual snow-covered look - it's a dead boring plant for the rest of the year, but worth having for the two weeks or so of loveliness every spring.

    3) I've booked the mog in for a vet visit on Thursday (they were worryingly keen to see him as quickly as possible :(), and my boss has allowed me to take the morning off so it doesn't become a desperate rush.

    4) Tuna and pesto pasta bake for dinner.

    5) I did go out last night after all, so I've still got an episode of Hairy Bikers to watch tonight.

    Have a pleasant evening, all.

    PS - Ladyhawk - how's the car?
Back after a very long break!

    Hi Everyone,

CCP - don't mention the car... they have promised me that I will get it back tomorrow... and have confirmed that the only thing that they are going to charge me for is sending the computer away...

So a flying visit as I still need to ice my red velvet cup cakes...

    1) My dragon cake turned out well. The photo doesn't really do it justice as it shows up all the flaws that aren't really visable. Just in case you missed it on the monster cake thread... here it is... http://www.flickr.com/photos/51854262@N02/5547437973/

    2) My colleague who is under going chemo was in the office today so we had a chance to have a good natter.

    3) Amusing my colleagues inadvertently by having an argument with a supplier on the phone. I really don't understand why he finds it so difficult to fill in a template that I have provided for him. You would think that he didn't want the business I am desperately trying to get him to quote for.

    4) A lovely colleague going out of her way to make sure that I had a lift to and from work.... and the other ones bickering as to why they didn't get a chance to drive me... all in good humour... obviously it really is not an honour to be my chauffeur! But is is great that they have all offered yet again to help.

    5) Seeing the photo's a of wedding that tok place yesterday of someone that Ihave known since I was six. She looked absolutely stunning and so very happy. It's always so lovely to see wedding photos (as long as there aren't too many of them!!!)

Night night everyone - sleep tight.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
