Morning everybody  - can't hear any 'noises' outside so assuming that it's 'dry and no wind' at the moment - still too dark to see. From the kitchen window, I CAN see some lights on in the high-rise blocks of flats half a mile away - so it ain't foggy either :rotfl:.

Caterina - good to hear that your cough is beginning to subside at last - should be better progress as the antibiotics kick in too. I finished my anti's a week ago, but still have the occasional 'spluttery cough' - but at least I can now take a DEEP breath  and not waking myself up all night. Hope you enjoy your re-organised 'Messiah' :). Good for you putting off that AGM - don't blame you one bit ;).
Sublime - Wd to your OH on getting the housework done while you and ds were at the Christmas Party :T - in my OH's case, he's heavy-handed with washing-up liquid  and can't organise a dish-drainer - but daren't complain .............!
Tealady - wd you on getting so organised - even so far as January :T.
ACEY - I'm sure your Mum is only too pleased to be able to help out with your son today - even if it's her birthday - that's what us mums like to do . Good Luck for later today - just imagine us all being there with you holding your hands - Female Power! Looking for a 'female supportive' emoticon and came up with this one: HSestrogen1.gif :rotfl:!
bella - wd to you and your DD on being so organised with your refreshments on your shopping trips :T and on getting full value from your Turkey Drumstick.
billy858 - hey don't worry about feeling down occasionally - we've all been there and sometimes without any obvious reason at all.
elizabunny - I've been hunting around for a 'kick up the rear' emoticon and the nearest I can find is this one: bump.gif - wd you on getting your deccies up - not even cleaned my windows here ! Chocolate hugs for you HSchochugs.gif.
nuttybabe - I've had a nosey on the sock monkey thread - some wonderful work been going on there - love the parrot on the shoulder of your pirate one :T.
Kitchenbunny - looking forward to seeing some more of your baking pics and trying your recipes . Good luck on finishing your x-stitch.
Kittikins - wd to your DD on handling responsibilities in school :T. lol at 'Auntie C' - my dgk's get threatened with ME. Lower the specs, give 'the Headmistress Look' and then wink at them :rotfl:. I also threaten to tickle them into submission - which always worked with DS1 :j.
Rummer - mmmmm what bliss - a peaceful bath AND Thornton's .
Patchwork - wd to your DD on her Birthday Dinner Party and good luck to your Youth Group on their Christmas Presentation.
Broomstick - good news on the water-meter - what you'll find is that you'll start thinking twice about how much water you use, so the saving could be more than £60 a year.
sparrer - wd on clearing your garden and hope you enjoy your dinner invitation at the weekend :).
SunnyGirl - wd to your DH and the boys on freeing the sheep - stoopid creatures aren't they! OMG you're starting on Christmas 2010 already - good for you :j.
RainyWednesday - awwwww so sorry to hear that things haven't worked out for you and OH - but what a blessing that you've come to the decision the way you have done. Hope you enjoy the trip to Switzerland next week and that you come back refreshed and ready to start your new life :j.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. New tenant finally turned up for the flat-viewing and found it to be totally unsuitable for her needs - oh dear!

    2. Another load of laundry done and dried on airer/rad rails.

    3. Home-made Chicken and Veg Soup with crusty bread for evening meal last night. Fruit salad to follow for afters.

    4. Planned to do some crocheting last night but couldn't find the wool I wanted to use -.

    5. Decided to bake some mince pies for the freezer instead - then realised that the baking trays were still at DD's -.

    6. Decided, in a huff, to go to bed early with a book. Woke at 4.00am with an aching back as I'd slept solidly on my front, managed to roll over and slept till 6.00am and got up - 9hrs sleep!!!!!

    7. OH is going to meet DD this morning to look after dgd2 while she goes in the dentist for a filling - he'll take her to the park for a walk to keep her occupied. Hope he remembers to bring my baking tins back with him .

    8. This posting has taken me an hour and a half to do because OH has been pratting around wanting me to look various things up on the comp - would have been as well giving him access to the darn thing :rotfl:.

Going to get off and get ready for work now - the jcb's/tractors are all digging away at the rear of the house reminding me that I shouldn't be sitting here like this.

speak again later - love Ollie xxxx

All this talk of food and baking. I can almost smell it from here! (I need a sniffing-the-air, Bisto-style, smiley!)

Getting lights for the newly acquired bargain Christmas tree with my Nectar points.

Finishing a speculative letter and CV for a job I've heard of might be vacant and unadvertised. Phoning the boss-man's PA ahead of emailing it through and ending up chatting away and discovering we'd met before. I don't suppose that will make any difference but it could be handy if they have other opprtunities in the future. At least I know she'll make sure that the boss-man reads it, even if he might already have someone in mind .

Leaving the house on schedule to take my books off and sell them, even after I realised I'd need to divert to call by at a friend who still has my racks! Anyhow - I arrived in good time, in spite of the traffic and it being so far from my home ground. Had to drag and carry my boxes so far (and up stairs!) that I almost turned around and came home again - but didn't. So glad about that because I really enjoyed the evening and sold lots of lovely children's books, 3 for 2. Warm glowy feelings all round! (And I actually had an empty box or two to carry back to the car after it all!):T

Getting home (not til 10pm though) to find a happy hubby. He'd acted on a tip of mine (discovered on MSE ofcourse!) and took the boys straight from school to a local pub for a £2.99 meal each. It was a treat for the boys too ... I'd already predicted what they'd order and DS1 was wonderfully enthusiastic and cheffy when he was telling me how tasty it was this morning!

Bargain buys this morning on M&S site thanks to a tip off on the Grabbit thread. Half price Meccano Harrier planes for a couple more boys, free delivery etc - and a half price purple puzzle book for M-i-L's purple hamper.

Once I'm off this computer I'm going to get back into some housework. We have friends coming on Sunday and I really have to get some of the grotspots sorted after a couple of days of writing job applications and sorting other things.

    Have a happy day everyone!

Haven't posted on here for ages because I seem to have been so busy, so catching up, and hoping that all the regulars on here are keeping OK.

    1. Finally getting our Wills updated and all the associated lists of bank account numbers, assets, and notifiable contacts noted in an organised list. etc. It took ages to compile but I now feel much happier in my mind that there are no loose ends left untied should anything happen to us.
    2. Pleasant pre-Christmas week-end away last week visiting my brother.
    3. Another imminent week-end away planned to catch up with other side of the family.
    4. Involvement in lots of pre-Christmas socialising with the organisations we're involved in.
    5. Yesterday seeing a wild green parakeet feeding on our peanut cages, and a pair of black & white spotted woodpeckers in the garden.

And an afterthought 6. The joy of renewing my car tax online and avoiding the Christmas queues at the Post Office, but I do hope this won't jeopardise the ultimate existence of our village post office. If that were at stake, I'd have to suffer my time in the queue to keep it going.

    Hello everyone

Acey - Hope everything went well for you today

Mine for yesterday / today are.

    1. Getting more presents wrapped last night
    2. Getting a huge pile of ironing (well mainly folding neatly and some ironing done) this morning before work
    3. Overhearing DD on the phone to her friend telling her not to spend loads of money on christmas presents and telling her to shop around as its not how much you spend but the thought that counts. Oh how I laughed as she is always taking the michael out of me for my MSE ways.:rotfl:
    4. Lovely sausage and onion pie for dinner last night and managed to make some jam tarts with left over pastry trimmings - DD loves these so happy again
    5. OH telling me how much he appreciates me:A this does not happen very often. Mind you packed lunches wern't up to much yesterday and I think he was hoping a compliment would get me to improve the standard (it worked) I was back to domestic goddess today from the slummy mummy of yesterday!!

Hugs to all who need them.

Mm you're right Scotrae, this thread makes me hungry!

Well I didn't get the job, disappointed but what can you do  Waiting for some feedback so hopefully that will be useful. Been a bit fed up the last couple of days but as always there are things to be grateful for:

    1. Getting my Christmas present from parents, new digital camera (got it early so I can take it on hols as going away for Christmas) - really looking forward to playing about with that.
    2. Gorgeous weather today - went for a walk at lunchtime and it was so nice!
    3. Long chats with my best mate online as she's off work at the moment - not good that she's signed off but good that we get to blether for ages :)
    4. Giggling like an idiot at putting OH's face on 'Elf Yourself' and sending him links which he has to try to look at in the office without laughing :rotfl:
    5. My broad beans and broccoli growing really well, mint and rosemary sprouting on the windowsill, and having the last few of this year's tomatoes (saving some seeds for next year too :D)

Hope you're all having a good week x

Just lost a post as I went off to hunt for a smiley :o
Will have to do a quickie post now I am afraid ....
Redsquirrel - so sorry you did not get the job ... hopefully something even better is round the corner
RainyWednesday - well done for keeping things amicable. I hope your lives will both improve as a result of making a difficult decision.
Caterina - I am pleased to see that you seem to be improving. Take things slowly and give yourself time to recover fully.

I have had a busy few days so have not had chance to catch with all the posts but sending hugs to all who need them today. smiley-hug008.gif

    My pleasures:
    1) Gorgeous sunny day today
    2) seeing my chickens on something other than mud
    3) House beginning to look festive and cosy
    4) Most of my cards written and ready to post
    5) Our former next door neighbour is coming round for something to eat tonight. Nice and simple ... spaggetti bolognase and garlic bread then cheese and buscuits.

    Bye all, must dash.
    xxx
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend
  • Just another day.

    1. Sat down for coffee, is that OS? It's very rare here.

    2. Bedrooms had a good spit and polish and the spare bed errected for one of my little visitors.

    3. Still managed home grown leaves on our salad. Fear that may be the last for this year though.

    4. A walk to the shops in glorious sunshine.

    5. The jumper I went to buy was reduced from £15 to £13 and I had an £5 voucher so I got it for £8:T

    Hi all

Rainywednesday, I am sorry that you had to take the hard decision of separating, but well done for keeping it amicable. (((HUGS))) for the inevitable heartbreak, though.

Ollie, in the end I decided against antibiotics for the time being. I bought them but as I am feeling a bit better, no fever and a bit less cough, I called a friend's husband who is a GP and he thinks that I don't really need them. So I am just keeping them in case I develop a fever or the cough gets worse again. I hate taking any medicine and these pesky tablets are full of horrors, apart from the antibiotic itself (useless against viral infection anyway) they contain colours and parabens - I don't even put parabens on my skin, imagine if I want to EAT them!

Redsquirrel, sorry about you not getting the job, but I hope there will be many more opportunities open to you!

Muppet, thanks for your kind words!

    Here are mine for today:

1 - Went for X-ray and was very worried. The radiographer only took one (usually good news in itself because if they see something dodgy in the chest they usually turn you sideways too for a better view). But she said "ok, results back in 2 weeks at your GPs". I asked whether I would be informed if there was anything the matter with me and she replied that if she had seen something there she would have sent me somewhere straight away (I take it to mean that I am ok!).

2 - Much better today, coughing but not frantically. Still tired but able to move about a bit more. Improving every day!

3 - Put bedding in the laundry, long overdue after both DH's and my illness. For a treat, I washed everything at 80 degrees, and for once I thought "stuff the economies", I need to make sure that everything is washed free of germs!

4 - Loads of yellow stickers in M&S this evening, bought a nice easy oven dinner for the family so nobody has to slave in the kitchen (I am still too tired, DH just back from work, DD babysitting and we will need to bring her the food - just around the corner - and DS just back from college).

5 - Treated myself to a day without paid work today and read all morning before going to the hospital for X-rays.

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening everyone

Thanks Ollie, that pirate took the longest to do but I am quite pleased with the result. Dh just laughs at me when I show him all the stuff I do!! He thinks I have a screw loose!

    Mine for today:

1 Painting in toddler group with every single one of the kids that turned up - that is a first!!!! I got covered in red paint today - i think they find it more fun putting paint on me than on the paper!!! :P

2 Had a good clean of under the stairs today and sorted out a few things

3 Glueing with dd and ds2 this afternoon. Glued shiny paper onto cut out stockings and will put them up somewhere tomorrow

4 Dh working from home so could sit with kids whilst I picked ds1 up from school so another nice long chat on the way home.

5 a night off - the ironing can wait so can the sewing and knitting. I am having a glass of wine and chilling!!!!!

    Hope everyone is ok.

mine for the last 2 days

    1) going to bed early last night and thinking its ok, all the stuff can get done tomorrow (as we all know, tomorrow never comes)

    2) lovely phone call to DD and hearing about their day

    3) being told by teenager outside local college that she like my scarf, was waiting for the howls of laughter from her and her mates but when I turned and said thanks and smiled she said I really mean it, not taking the p***,. perhaps should have offered to teach her how to make it :D

    4) work people asking when I am bringing in something homemade, was getting a bit worried as all so far have taken in tins of sweets, I missed out on buying tins of sweets when all supermarkets had them on offer and was  at buying them full price, am glad they want mince pies/sausage rolls etc

    5) lighting a vanilla scented candle tonight (don't laugh, it reminds me of the smell of play doh and my kids being little)
whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

    Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/11 :D
