Caterina - ooh, the body treat sounds nice. It’s a little thing like having painted toenails that makes you feel good :D
Mcculloch - We have a cormorant (I’m sure it’s a cormorant, it couldn’t be anything else) in the river at the back of the office. Haven’t seen it in a while, but whenever it does it generates a lot of interested faces at my office window watching it!
Kittikins - sounds like you’ve had a productive day :)
Frith - Hope you’re feeling better today
Marmite - You made curd cheese? Wow, I would never have thought of doing that. Is there a specific recipe?
Tealady - Well done on the baking :) That’s great :)
Mummysaver - the kids doing their chores makes a big difference. It’s nice when everything is tidy!
mhagster - Got to love Skype. I wouldn’t be without it. :)
sparrer - well done on losing 1lb. :)

Well, I don't know what to say. All day I've been hearing about the devastation in Japan and I've just seen the pictures. My heart goes out to anyone who is uncertain how their loved ones are. :( I've gone quite cold watching the news. My pleasures are dampened somewhat in comparison, but here goes with a couple.

    1. Had a nice walk into town at lunchtime and managed to avoid buying a cupcake from the market stall.
    2. Having a choice of what we have for tea tonight.
    3. DH got home from work early.
    4. Picked up a nice unscented candle from Wilko for a £ in a lovely jar. I shall reuse the jar for new candles, I think. It can't be that hard to refill it with melted down stubby bits of wax.

That's about it. Take care, everyone, and have a good evening.

I'm with you, the dreadful pictures from Japan have sobered and saddened me. The image that has stuck in my mind is the woman climbing a hill holding the hand of a little boy against a background of devastation - profound gratitude to see their survival, but also the thought that the clothes that they are wearing are now all that they own.

Almost impossible to post something trivial but here we are.

    1. Finding three things that I wanted to gift to a friend who I know needs them.
    2. Cutting open the lovely tube of conditioner that came with my hair dye to discover enough for two more uses.
    3. Being able to ride my trike downtown - it was windy, yes, but not too bad. (It's an adult's pedal trike, not a la Miss Marple quite, it's built on much sleeker lines. I love it.)
    4. Finding lots of little treats - and some novel meal ideas - in my local Heron store. For those who don't have one. Heron is a discount frozen and chilled food retailer, miles better than Farmfoods imo. It's North of England based. It's no exaggeration to say that without Heron life would have been almost impossible whilst I was between jobs. Plus the staff are simply the best. My shopping was expertly packed for me and carried out to my trike. You don't get that in Tesco.
    5. Giving myself a little mini pedicure this morning - and walking on air as a result.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

    Hi all

Mummysaver and Kitchenbunny, thanks for kind words re. job and body treats/toenail paint.

I was going to have a whinge about gaining 1lb today but I have just now read about the tragedy in Japan and my tiny whinge just disappeared. I daren't look at the pictures or read articles about it as it upsets me so very deeply. I shall pray for the people and the country and if there is a relief fund I shall contribute to that but I just cannot bring myself to look at so much atrocious devastation and despair.

It seems trivial in the light of the disaster to even remark about my pleasures but on the other hand I think it is something that awakes (I hope) the need to be grateful for every little thing.

    My pleasures for today:

1 - I live in a country which seems to be (God willing) quite safe from major scale natural disasters (coming from Italy I am too aware of what it is like to live in a seismic country!).

    2 - I am healthy.

    3 - I have my family.

    4 - I have a roof over my head.

5 - I am well fed and have access to clean water.

I suppose that all other pleasures seem just too trivial for me to report at the moment.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Great Friday for me, apart from as others have posted sad news in Japan - I have an old school friend there and here's hoping she and all her family are ok. Awful and makes you pleased with what we have and where we are.

My somewhat trivial pleasures for today -

    1. Excellent networking day at work with some women's groups and a text from my boss later agreeing that we can take some great ideas forward
    2. Ace lunch at meeting, it was a `fuddle` (might be a Yorkshire term?) where you all bring a dish to share (very MSE)
    3. Getting the train to work with my book (didnt squander on a paper or a coffee) and looking at the changing season blossoming
    4. Spotted a Heron on the river near my flat (fave bird by far)
    5. Turbo Cider Home Brew bubbling madly so I think its working.

    Have a good weekend.

5 for today so far (Friday).

    1) Almost had a good sleep!

    2) Went into Ludlow first thing and looked around the charity shops. Nothing very exciting but good to get out and about.

    3) The home/school partnership lady came round and liked my disciplining technques and I must stick at them. Once smaller son's finger has healed and I'm not waking him up to give him antibiotics, we will tackle getting him to stay in his own bed...

    4) Looked after next door's (and mine) for a while and they were all very jolly.

    5) Then (v exciting), youngest 2 of MrN's, my 2 and MrN himself, no less, went to see my mum and dad. :-D It was all very pleasant, my brother and sister went too so it was definitely a kitchenful. We had tea there and have just got back.

    6) Smaller son still healing up well. Will do another bandage tomorrow morning *yuck* They've just got in the bath and I've run out of freezer bags so he's in there with an orange Sainsburys plastic bag wound round his hand!

    1. Received my £4 LV from doing a survey :)
    2. Did another survey so will have more LV coming my way next week, hoorah!
    3. Sunshine this morning, woo hoo!! Wore my sandals with pride
    4. Downgraded my gym pass back to just being able to use the pool, which will save me nearly £30/month.
    5. Nicest of all, had a phone call from the office this evening to say there was a plant and a child's bag at my desk, so popped into the office and picked it up; it was a thank you package from one of my lovely colleagues to say thank you for all my help with important phone calls in recent weeks. She gave me a lovely plant and a cute bag from M&S filled with chocolate eggs and marshmallows for DD, how kind of her :)

    Evening

just a quick post for me as it is way past my bed time.. As others have said the devastation in Japan makes what I am about to post trivial but also makes you appreciate everything we have in life.

    Pleasures for today,
    1. My friend J getting some positive news about an illness that she had been diagnosed with but a simple procedure should hopefully have her back to fighting fit.
    2. Raised another £100 today at work :j
    3. Good sociable day at work again with everyone getting together and chatting.
    4. Took DD and her friend to see Westlife at the O2. They both loved it as did another 2 friends that were there as well. Even better is that the tickets were free.
    5. Getting a lift home from the station tonight from DD friends dad so didn't have to walk.

Hugs to all who need them

Kitchenbunny the cruise line Royal Caribbean, in true OS fashion I booked with a cruise agent and got a very reasonable price.
mummysaver My DS is 28 now, so it's good to hear St Richards is still 'producing' !
mcculloch so pleased to hear some good news today, best of luck for your sister's treatment and recovery

    1. Kitchen fitters think they've finished, but forgot to plumb the wm in again so I have to wait til Monday to phone them. I can't do any washing, how terrible ;)
    2. There's so much cupboard space now I'm having fun juggling and deciding where to store everything
    3. Used up some old flour and yeast to make a loaf which turned out far better than expected
    4. Met up with some friends for a free evening out
    5. nsd
    6. So very grateful for all I have. Sounds trite but words can't express how I feel after todays tragedy.

    Night night, sweet dreams

The news from Japan makes our pleasures seem irrelevant but DS2 had a friend staying last night and their response to the news and pictures were very similar to mine.

    1. Had a course to attend yesterday which was really interesting and beneficial which isn't always the case.

    2. Being grateful for walking the dog in peaceful surroundings.

    3. Being able to buy a coffee for a friend.

    4. DS2 and his friends being articulate and willing to talk to me when many teenagers won't.

    Hello,
We have had a lovely day, sun has been shining and very warm. For some reason I can handle weekend heat better than weekday heat!

    1. Had a lovely brunch & good read at papers with my husband this morning.

    2. Went supermarket shopping & was the least I have spent so far!

    3. Popped over to neighbours house with a birthday gift for their 2 year old. They had invited us for BBQ but we had other plans, but nice to see birthday girl!

4.We went to a new to us beach which was beautiful, I was paddling with fish swimming round my
feet! Everyone else was kayaking but me (official photographer!) and dd2 (still too wee!)

5.Home , with very crabbit dd2, who has been sent to bed early.....and we are having Chinese food
for dinner! It was nice to enjoy the sun ,with a wee sea breeze today....sometimes it feels like my
    enemy!

Thoughts go to all those affected by earthquake & tsunami.

    Have a good weekend!
