Mhags well done your DD, a journalist in the making?!
Caterina La Dolce Vita, what good luck your letter to the oil producer brought
Kitchenbunny I Love clafouti! Please send sonme my way
CCP l do enjoy hearing of your visits around the area. We liked to visit the cathedral and grounds when went shopping, and DS was born in St Richards. You often, unknowingly, bring back happy memories for me
1. nsd
2. Found a cruise for DM's 90th which she's going to love, and at a price we (her children and grandchildren) can afford by clubbing together.
3. Washed out all the new kitchen cupboards and worktops ready to start moving back into the kitchen. Just the flooring to be laid and decorating to be done now, no doubt I'll have to do the cupboards again afterwards!
4. Postie brought me some vouchers for doing a survey
5. A very kind neighbour gave me three lemons, she bought a net of 5 for Shrove Tuesday and only used two. I like a slice of lemon in my tea so they were very gratefully received!
Night night, sweet dreams

5 for yesterday (Weds).
1) Took smaller son for a new bandage on his broken finger and he was very good. :-)
2) Did various bits while we were in town.
3) Had lunch at mum and dad's.
4) Bigger son went to karate for the first time and loved it!
Hmm, only 4. Not feeling great at the moment, though.0 -
Morning all!
My five most recent ones are:
1. Lovely lunch out with a friend yesterday, not OS, but friendly support is what gets us all through, and that definitely is OS!
2. Having some savings to cover the cost of the gas tank needing refilling already - argh! And the kids not moaning about the lack of heating, just grabbed extra duvets and sleeping bags to put on their beds!
3. Finding some lurpak with salt crystals in the ys section last night, stocked up!
4. Listening to catch up radio 4 and radio 7 plays - so easy and fantastic entertainment, feel it makes my license fee worthwhile!
5. Having my children all tell me they love me before they went to bed last night, without any prompting!
Edit: Sparrer, my two eldest were born in St Richards too! And the same mw delivered them!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Evening All!
Cooler day....a chilly 18o! It was humid when I went out this morning in a teeshirt....then 2 hours later it was bloomin' cold! had to put a cardi on when I got in!......oh the hardship!
1. Took DD2 to school, came home a different way.....bit hillybut that was extra excercise I suppose!
2. I had my first Australian haircut this morning, was a bit nervous but could put off no longer! Was just going to get a trim but then thought sod it & got a short bob cut back in and a fringe. Then got eyebrows waxed......after last times disaster, made sure she knew exactly what I wanted! So most pleased with how it turned out.....so I am once again gorgeous!
3.Then went to library, watched another episode of Casualty (I really need a job!) got bus home & didn't do very much other than sit on sofa with a cardigan on.
4.We had roast beef for tea ( none for me....just had veggies) , tried to make yorkshires in my crappy oven ....smelled buring....smelled smoke...saw smoke.....opened oven...saw flames....OMG fat had spilled over onto gas burner bit (very technical term ) and this had went on fire! Switched oven off.....took my poor wee yorkshires out of inferno and microwaved them ! Ha.....not remotely like Y'puds but still edible with gravy on them! So apart from near disaster was actually a nice tea!
Another day of no cakey/ biscuity/ sweets (called lollies over here.....regardless of what they are!)....enjoyed an apple & banana instead!
5.Got 1.75kg of riper bananas.....honestly, they are fine, yellow not black!.....for $3. They are $9.99/kg with a news report tonight saying that supplies are low and prices will increase. So I will continue to buy from Greengrocer
Almost Friday again here! But enjoy your Thursday!0 -
My five for yesterday are
1. A couple of nice walks with the dog. Watching the rabbits and the squirrels.
2. Nice sausage pie I made for tea - just need to make something else with the rest of theb pastry today.
3. All ironing had been done.
4. Managed to meet a collegue for a discussion before work.
5. Nice email from a collegue giving me some advice and support.0 -
hi all, how are we all today? Miserable day but here are my 5 for today
1. Lovely home made loaf in the breadmaker cooking and filling the house with lovely smells
2. Eaten some leftovers for lunch that have probably been hanging around for a day too long but managed a narrow escape from the bin.
3. Joined in with the flylady thread so will hopefully have a house that glimmers and gleams before too long.
4. I can feel the cloud of depression lifting and feeling much more like myself today which is nice.
5. DH should be home early today
6. I'm reading an amazing book " tales from a midwife" and dd is due a nap soon so I should have the opportunity to read a few pages with a cup of tea.
7. With No 6 in mind I have got one slice of apple pie leftover to eat0 -
Wogglemaker - good to see you. Mm, the soup sounds delicious!
mcculloch29 - I love the feeling of fresh sheets. Bliss.
Tealady - Wow, loads of baking! That’s an awesome load of cake and savouries. Well done!
House elf - mmm, beef teriyaki. I like it but DH doesn’t, so we don’t really get to eat it. I must try and get something like that to have at work..
Sparrer - Which line is doing the cruise? I’m wondering if it’s the same company we took when DH and I went on honeymoon. We enjoyed it, but it wasn’t great finding I get a little seasick! (clafouti will be in the post)
Frith - hope you feel better soon (hugs)
mummysaver - I’ve never had butter with salt crystals in. Is it nice? (it sounds it)
mhagster - Lucky tea was saved after the oven “issue”. Well done on avoiding the cakes & biscuits. Wish I could.
villagelife - I’ve still got all of my ironing in a pile to do at the weekend. Got to say I prefer watching rabbits.I spot them on roundabouts as I’m driving home.
missminx - mmm, left over apple pie. I think it’s better the following day. mmm, now I fancy apple pie.
Well, here’s my five pleasures for today:
I have actually had an NSD! Whoo hoo
DH had tidied the side. Bless him, he’s taken all the bottles to the bottle bank and my kitchen does look tidier.Hugs are coming his way!
I spent my lunch hour cleaning the roof lining of my car. My goodness, the cloth was grey and manky when I’d finished, but the interior looks neater now.
Saw a boat being transported along the A1 coming home from work. It had one of those accompanying vehicles with flashing lights on the top as it was a wide load. My pleasure was that it was on the opposite carriageway.
I got a chance to practice reverse parking this morning, and managed it. Also, I reversed up onto the driveway tonight past a parked car and avoiding the bins!
Have a good evening, everyone! Stir fry for tea here, but I’ve had a couple of bits of bread & butter since I got in because a cuppasoup for lunch isn’t really enough. I feel a bit better now and will start doing some bits and pieces. I started a Lent challenge to learn something new, so I’m going to teach myself how to sew the basic stitches properly by hand. Now to get my sewing book!

Hi all
Tealady and mcculloch29 thank you for the good wishes about the job!
Sparrer, I have pmd you about La Dolce Vita.
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Lovely body treatment and pedicure at OSpa with offer voucher (ridiculously cheap! Hope to get more of these!). Now I have bright red toenails and even if they are inside my socks inside my shoes I know that they are red and I feel good!
2 - Afterwards, met with DH who works near the spa and he took me out for lunch (actual proper lunch not just a sandwich! Said he wanted to treat us, the sweetheart!) at Carluccio's. Yummy!
3 - At the restaurant I found plenty to eat on my low-carb and was "good", I gave DH all my focaccia bread (even if it looked sooooo tempting) and resisted the temptation of tasting his AMAZING LOOKING pasta with mushrooms. I deserve to lose at least 4 lbs this week, just for this act of supreme sacrifice!
4 - Got a fantastic deal, buying a magazine in Canary Wharf (Rosemary Conley) it gives a free ticket for the Vitality show, so I bought two, got the tickets online and am all set to go in a couple of weeks (the second ticket is for my OS friend - you know who you are!).
5 - Looking forward to my Zumba class tonight!
Better go and cook something so I can go to Zumba with a bit of energy in me.
Good night all xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Went to Durham today - how I love that city - didn't go up to the Cathedral this time but will do next time.
1. The company of my friend, who never rushes me - my arthritis makes my progress slow.
2. Some bargain buys - but the best was hearing my friend say she wanted a hair colour, and being able to give her a voucher to get one for free. (Clairol foam party one)
3. Watching cormorants on the Wear (that isn't a typo, the Wear is Durham's river). Looking like heraldic emblems and prehistoric creatures all at once.
4. Chatting with a lovely, but very lonely, elderly lady in a cafe whilst my mate zoomed round shops she wanted to go in.
5. One of my learners who had failed a test twice before despite working really, really hard, passed at the third attempt.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Kitchenbunny - you sound like you're getting very confident in the car now, well done you
1. I worked from home saving petrol
2. I made a gorgeous soup and dinner for the next 2 days out of bottom of the fridge veggies
3. DD bought a book in the village charity shop, she was very excited
4. Been invited to 2 40th birthday celebrations, one I'm definitely going to, the other I'm not sure I can make, but lovely to be invited
5. Have booked a £29 Premier Inn hotel room for the one I'm (I mean WE, as MrA has put it in his diary) going to. All very exciting!
6. Sold a book on Amazon and posted it today
7. DD and her friend have been having lots of fun bumping down the stairs on their bottoms! Lots of chuckling going on!
8. Planning a very early night as, not a pleasure, I feel really tired and achy, but it'll be lovely to snuggle up in my nice fresh bedding once I get round to putting it on the bed.....
9. Have got lots of washing done today, hopefully it'll be dry tomorrow to get it out on the line.
10. My new cheapy garden table was delivered this morning and it looks great, a little bit spindly but it'll be fine.
11. I cancelled my order for the matching chairs which are currently out of stock, saving myself £48 as I've decided that I will be shabby chic and use the far better quality, if much shabbier old chairs, I have 3 good ones and will just mix and match if I have more people over. I need the £48 back in my account more than I need new chairs!
Right, time to log off and do some chores before my nice early night. I've got some good books from the library that are calling me0
