hello from Hotland! I am so,so warm. It's been 30o today but a cooler 28.4o at the moment! Have just been wrestling with my duvet cover so I'm all hot & bothered! To be cooler & wet next few days so can cope with that better than the heat!
1. Went to assembly at school today & then I walked into town, beautiful morning! Saw lots of cockatoos & the most beautiful magnolia tree just coming into flower with it's gorgeous creamy flowers.
2. Had a good mooch round op shops.....got 2 lovely cardis for me , 1 top, 1 cardi and 1 pair of brand new shorts for dd1 and 2 skirts and 1 pair of jeans for dd2. Also got a lovely little bag in a gorgeous shade of green & another wicker basket......like the kind Red Riding Hood would carry! Handy for carrying everything else home! Everything all washed & ironed!
3.Went to library (lovely & cool) and watched the Christmas episode of Casualty , this weekend's not available yet. Have to watch it on Youtube as we don't get iplayer etc over here.
Met a very charming gentleman who came from the town I was born in! I commented on his Scottish accent and we had a nice chat , he was at the same school as my dad but not quite at the same time. He has been here many, many years but still had a good accent!
4. Home & had a tuna & cheese toastie for lunch. Got washing & ironing all done this afternoon. Stripped all the beds as it was very windy in a hot way,so took advantage of it!
5. EEK! got hoover out, went to plug it in & 'something' shot across my kitchen floor.....? mouse-y thing. I was swearing like a trooper so luckily there were no children in! My daughter is seriously phobic about rodents ,so have not told her yet. Just keeping doors shut......my OH was sooooo helpful when I phoned him at work.....nothing he could do from there! Well I know that! I'm just sharing! I realise there is nothing pleasurable about this ! Just sharing....!
6. However, I need to venture into kitchen to make dinner....like soon! Easy dinner of fresh ravioli, not sure what I'll have ,maybe just toast ,as I'm not too keen on ravioli.
7. Whilst I was at assembly this morning, one of other mums asked me if I was dd2's mum? Yes, well her girl had said DD2's cakes had the best icing she has ever tasted and she had to get the recipe! so was most chuffed!
Enjoy your Monday.......if you hear a distant scream it will mean dd1 has seen creature!
ETA ripe bananas from greengrocers, 1.5kg for $3 instead of $6.99/kg for fresher ones!0 -
Marmite! just for you and anyone else who wants to try this banana loaf. I make this in a big rectangular dish. Rises to just over an inch and I cut it into slices. Most tasty , kids love it, I love it, OH loves it, they all take it as slices for lunch!
180o for approx 1 hour.
Mix: 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 3 eggs, 3/4 cups of oil ( I use canola oil which is cholestrol free) .
then add:
2 cups of SR flour, 2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1tsp cinammon, 1tsp allspice
then add:
2 cups mashed banana , 1/2 cup sultanas.
Enjoy! However, be warned it's very moreish!0 -
MHagster, I love hearing about bananagate
Would happily send you some of my cheapy 'narna bargains but I think they'd get impounded at customs
Sparrer - sure I've asked before, is it Henley on Thames you go to for your DM visits? Love it round there, grew up not too far from there and my parents are still there, have not so fond memories of going down the big hill with dodgy brakes in my first car, lol.
Frith- Roman coin!!! Wow, I find old crisp packets under my sofa......never any real treasure, maybe next time!
Morning all, no pleasures as yet, apart from my traditional good morning text from MrA, but it's going to be a busy Monday, lots of work, studying at lunchtime and DD has 2 friends coming for tea, so it should be a hectic day0 -

Thanks!I thought that it must be a good recipe as you make it every week.I'll hopefully make it soon, got something else planned for this week.
PS Wish I could send you some bananas. Why do you think they're so expensive compared to home (as they're also imported here)?
Yikes about the mouse BTW....0 -
Can I join in, I've been on such a downer for the last week I really need to get back my sense of perspective and getting joy from the simple things in life and I think this might help!
Should I write about the pleasures I shall be having today or that I had yesterday. I'll do both
Yesterday:
1. ......ok, I cant actually think of anything I did yesterday that made me happy so I'll set out my pleasures for today instead.
Today:
1. Got a massive piece of cooked beef in the fridge and loads of leftovers so I'm going to cook a few meals for this week giving me a nice relaxing week cooking wise.
2. Got some free apples so going to make a pie out of those and some frozen blackberries we all picked in the summer.
3. Taking DD to a singing group at the library this morning, she loves it and it makes me happy to see her dancing around.
4. Shall take all the recycling that has been mounting up in the cupboard and bothering me everytime I look at it on the way back from library.0 -
Missminx007 - welcome, and I'm sure if you think really hard, you'd be able to find something nice about yesterday (I always seem to manage something, even if it's only a didn't spend too much, or had another glass of wine
) Hope you have a great day

The price of bananas shot up after Queensland floods & again after cyclone Yasi, where 90% of crops were totally wrecked. However ,they still seem to be in plentiful supply but I just cannot spend or more to the point WILL not spend that much money on a banana! Worked out about one pound (only have dollar sign on new keyboard!) per banana the other week!
However, we lurve my banana cake ,so at least getting bag of riper/older ones at green grocer I can afford to make it!
Most fruit / veg is from Australia but as it's a huge country/continent it can have a distance to travel I suppose!0 -
Kittins yes it's H-o-T, DM now lives in Shiplake but we've been in the area most of my life. The hill, White Hill, is the bain of my life, on sunny weekends the tailback can be 5 miles long so I detour from the M40 via Marlow. Bloomin' grockles
I'm pleased your brakes lasted til the bottom of the hill, even if it was a hairy ride!0 -
I am late today but my five for yesterday are
1. DS2 won his game of rugby even if it was bitterly cold watching in the wind.
2. Shepherds pie for tea - one of my favorites and some leftover.
3. More sewing/repairs done. Its good to do it rather than throwing the item away.
4. Reading more of my book.
5. Peaceful evening in front of the tv watching countryfile and top gear0 -
This weekend my 5 OS pleasures have been;
1)Washing the cars with my neighbour's kid (he's mad keen on cars and does a really good job, well worth the £3 pocket money I gave him)
2) Walking in the sunshine with my dog and DH
3) Seeing lambs in the fields
4) Seeing all my seeds coming up in the greenhouse, growing all my hardy perenials for a new border plus tomatoes, peppers and chillis
5) Having a lovely open fire last night and saving on the central heating"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0
