5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Morning, all. Here's a few pleasures of late:
1. Managed a few days without drinking a cup of coffee - on the downside have had a few tins of pop. I'll get there!
2. Have been cleaning a bit of the car interior so it feels a nicer place. I get to work earlier so there's a bit of time for me to work on it.
3. Still clearing out my bookshelves. I don't get the time to read anymore, so lots of books are going to the charity shop. That feels like the end of an era, really, but times change!
4. Booking a few days' off work. I can't wait to do some serious sorting out here.
5. Got a lovely venison casserole in the slow cooker to turn into a pie for tonight's tea. Yum!
Have a lovely day, everyone.

Afternoon everyone
Almost 5pm and it's still daylight - really do feel spring is here, even though it's still cold and a chance of snow, according to the forecast!
Today's 5:-
1) New cooker has arrived and been installed - they disconnected the old one and took it away :j It's so pristine and shiny it seems a pity to dirty it by cooking something in it
2) Hyacinths are now coming into flower - gorgeous smell
3) Made a couple of cards for upcoming birthdays - on a creative roll at the moment
4) More tidying up and decluttering done
5) Prospect of a lie in tomorrow after a busy week with some early starts
Have a good weekend everyone,
Pam x0 -
Evening all - hope you're all doing OK.
Would you mind if I went very briefly OT and asked a quick question, please? I know a lot of you regularly shop in charity shops - I never have before and recently bought my first ever charity shop item, a nice, warm-looking jumper. When I put it on today, though, I found it had lumps of dirty blue tack stuck to the inside of it.
Is that the sort of thing you have to accept if you buy second-hand clothes, or is it an unusual sort of mistake? It's probably a daft quesiton but I've never bought clothes from a charity shop before so I don't know what I should expect.
Anyway, back on topic...
Kitchenbunny - can I ask how you make your vension casserole, please? I've had a pack of stewing venison in my freezer for several months now, which I bought because it was on special offer and I fancied trying it, then realised I have no idea how to cook venison.
Thanks for any tips!CCP - sorry to hear about your rubbish day. Isn't everyday have a go at central services (as we call them in my company)?
That made me LOL - I think you're probably right! :rotfl:
My pleasures for today:
1) A nice lie-in, listening to the rain with the cat asleep on my feet.
2) Had a cleaning sort of day - got rid of a load of recycling, dusted, washed the kitchen floor, and got rid of some limescale in the bathroom that had resisted all OS attempts to remove it, thanks to a free sample of a product I got months ago and had forgotten all about until now.
3) NSD*, the third one this week which must be a record for me.
4) *It was only technically an NSD as I took advantage of a buy 2 get one free offer on a fair trade website - here if anyone's interested - to get a few bits, including a new bag to take my lunch to work in (my previous one, a freebie, has started to fall apart after a year's hard use.) The order won't be processed until Monday, though, so I'm not counting it as a spend today.
5) In the interests of emptying my freezer (honest!
) I've defrosted a couple of slices of my dad's HM cider cake - yum!
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi CCP,
I did it in my slow cooker and started off by putting in 2 crushed cloves of garlic and some dried mixed herbs, then added some chopped bacon chunks, the venison, a generous sprinkling of flour, a sliced onion, some mushrooms, a stock cube and a really nice glug of red wine (about 1/3 bottle). Then stirred it up and added a teeny shake of ground ginger and a shake of nutmeg over the top, and let it cook away for 5-6 hours on low. It's made a lovely thick pie filling but would be equally good with some herby dumplings on top (actually, that's my plan for whatever didn't go into the pie.
)

Thanks very much, KB - that sounds delish! It's now on my meal plan for next weekend.

CCP: re charity shops. I think you need to have a good look at the item you are buying....and I would say it also depends on what shop you are buying from.
The volunteer assistants probably never thought to look inside it either.
I overheard one of them saying to a customer in our op shop last week that 75% of what they get is rubbish and can't sell.
Some weeks I could have a good mooch & come away with nothing and others come away with lovely things. Don't let it put you off, take it back & exchange the jumper if you can be bothered . I think shop location can make a difference as well to the stock it holds/receives.
Hope that helps!0 -
Evening.
For today and yesterday:
1. Wrote and sent off three cards to family;been meaning to do it for ages.
2. Have discovered a pharmacy where everything, bar prescriptions, has a permanent 20% discount!
3. Had a long walk.
4. Sorted out tax and other papers.
5. Really enjoying a book my sister send me (Margaret Rutherford biography).
Wishing you all a good evening x0 -
1. DD and MrA met for the first time today and it went even better than I could have imagined

2. MrA treated us to a lovely lunch
(OS as I didn't pay, lol)
3. DD took us to a fantastic museum - free entry and she was so happy to show us her favourite things
4. Lovely friend stayed over last night to babysit whilst I went out with the girls
5. Spent less than anticipated on the night out and just coffees today, hoping for a NSD tomorrow...0 -

5 for today (Saturday).
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Cooked breakfast.
3) Went swimming with sons and my brother.
4) Went into Worcester in the afternoon and did well in the 2nd hand shops. One has M and S stuff still with the labels on (stock clearance?) so smaller son had 3 new T shirts from there. Popped into the Cathedral too where the choir was practising.
5) Sons decided they wanted mussels for tea (!) so I cooked them in some garlic sauce with prawns and squid and we have it with some nice bread.
6) MrN came round and has just left. :-)0
