    Another good day.

    1. Made some banana cake and bread pudding using up bits and pieces. A lovely smell but DS2 kept complaining that it wasn't cooked yet but he could smell it. He has managed to eat 3 slices of it already.

    2. Made lentil soup for lunch and plenty left over for next week.

    3. Sorted out another cupboard in the kitchen and have recycled the stuff I no longer want already.

    4. Managed a walk in the almost dry. It was very muddy though.

    5. Went to a friends 50th party which was great fun and a lovely cake of 50 cupcakes.

    6. Finally got round to doing some mending. It didn't take very long but good to have finished it.

    My five for Saturday :D

    1. A lovely long lie in bed with the laptop reading MSE and getting motivated:j

    2. Cooked up 12 portions of soup for the freezer - packed lunches sorted for OH and myself next week (OH will put breadmaker on today for HM bread portions). Used Lesley's soup recipe (see the first page of the new tough times thread) for a cauliflower and lentil soup and made up the other soup recipe with carrots and butterbeans (added coriander and marigold bouillon). HM soup and bread at lunchtime is a delight :D

    3. Batch cooking some bolagnese sauce and some savoury mince (7 meals for two, now in the freezer). This means we spend less time cooking the evening meal (these have been added to previous weeks batch cooking sessions so we have a different meal every evening).

    4. Pottering in the kitchen making things for the freezer knowing that dinner (leg of lamb) is cooking in the slow cooker with very little effort on my part :D

    5. Watching DVDs on blustery Saturday evening, lovely and snug under a fleece blanket :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
  • Morning, all! Thought I'd pop on early today to post my pleasures for yesterday, so here goes:

    1. The venison stew/pie filling was absolutely gorgeous and made loads! We'll be having it again tonight with mash, so that's another pleasure.
    2. We watched a cool film from LoveFilm last night - the 13th Floor - about virtual worlds. Eye-opening stuff!
    3. Had a glass of red wine last night. I don't normally drink wine as I don't overly like the taste but I wasn't going to let 2/3 a bottle go to waste so I had a glass and it wasn't too bad. I did wake up with a bit of a headache though.
    4. It isn't raining!
    5. Woke up at about 6:25am and thought "Oh well, that weekend went quick", then realised it was Sunday and went back to sleep for a bit! Definitely a pleasure!

apple-mint - I had a similar day to you with regards to kitchen pottering - it's a wonderful feeling! Thanks for the motivation to make HM soup for lunch - I shall do that today.
villagelife - Another soup maker. I think I'm definitely missing out on something here. :) Well done on getting the cupboards sorted.
Frith - I've never cooked mussels - wouldn't know where to start - hope they were tasty!
Kittikins - well done on spending less than expected on a night out. I love when I open my purse the morning after and there's a pleasant surprise!

Today, I'm going to make a big batch of soup (thanks apple-mint and villagelife) - minestrone, I think, as I've not made it yet and fancy it, along with a batch of cookies. DH requested them, so how could I say no? I might try and wash the car as it really needs doing, but beyond that I don't want to do too much today as I just want a rest. :) Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning to you all, Sunday evening here!
Been a more pleasant temperature today, about 22o with a breeze coming through windows & doors. Nice to have them open, don't when it's hot & humid as house ends up warmer than outside.
    1. Got up early, made spicy chocolate muffins , carrot cake muffins and banana loaf (from my frozen mushy banana), cooked our chicken for tonights dinner whilst oven was on.
2.DD1 was picked up by her new friend's mum to go ice skating. They seem a nice family & she had a great time & won a free session ticket. Glad she is making new friendships, she left behind great friends which I know she struggles with.
3.Washing all done & ironed......that is my main benefit of this weather!
    4. popped out to pay a deposit at local bowling alley for DD2's birthday. She's invited a few kids from school to join us.
    5. I got a new laptop. This web-book is quite ancient & only does limited tasks, plus the wire is dodgy & the battery life is pants.......we had vouchers so only paid 1/2 price in cash. OH is doing the necessary stuff to make it usable for me ( bit of a technophobe :( )

    Enjoy your day,

Afternoon all. I thought I'd get my pleasures in early today!

mhagster - thanks very much for your thoughts on charity shops. I'll just put that down as a one-off error, then, and remember to check things carefully before buying the future. Glad your new laptop's working OK. :)

Kitchenbunny - I'm glad the venison casserole was good - I'm really looking forward to trying it next weekend.

    1) The daffodils I got BOGOF in the supermarket on Friday are nearly all out in flower, making a welcome splash of yellow.

    2) MY first HG daffodil is just starting to open - it's going to be a white one. (As far as I remember from last year, it's the only white one I've got - I must get some more to keep it company.)

    3) My grandmother's had an offer for her house, so her move to the south coast is progressing nicely. :j

    4) A slice of cider cake while watching the football.

    5) Ordered my seeds for the year, including some rainbow chard which my dad reckons should grow quite happily in a growbag. I'll find out if he's right later in the year. ;)

    6) Cooked a spicy beef stew for tomorrow night's dinner, using up a soggy pepper and some past their best tomatoes. It tastes pretty good for a using up odds and ends type recipe. :)

Have a pleasant afternoon and evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    Afternoon everyone,

The day's got better as it's gone on! Started off feeling really down in the dumps, and when I finally got myself motivated to get moving, it definitely improved. I weaned myself off anti depressants some time ago as I think I mentioned once before. Not been easy, but I'm very glad that chapter's over. Now I need to readjust!

    My 5 for today:

    1) Continued with the declutter - my bedroom, lounge and kitchen are now looking good :j I'm definitely a pack-rat by nature!
    2) Washing done and all up to date
    3) Puddy tat very affectionate esp this morning - I'm convinced she knows when I feel down and gets on my knee for a cuddle
    4) Made a list of things I want to achieve over the next few months and am going to break it down into small and very manageable chunks
    5) Looking forwards to meeting up with a friend tomorrow who's been living in New Zealand these past 15 years, and is back to the UK for a year or 2

Hope you've all had a good weekend. I'm loving all the recipes on this thread - earmarked a few already

    Pam x

    Hi everyone,

Nice to be back with you for half term! Great OS start to the hols......

    Saturday

    1. Went to collect new washing machine which we had bought on EBay for a third of the price of a new model.:money: Ended up on an industrial estate in the depths of Walsall waiting ages for someone to come and open up a dodgy looking lock-up. However, the washer seems fine so far, so worth the wait!

    2. Went voucher shopping in Boots and Body Shop. The SA's in Boots were v impressed with the £39 worth of stuff for £14! Got lots of Body Shop goodies to put away for presents with the Telegraph vouchers too. :)

    3. Curry night. Defrosted various HM and bought curries and sides for a saturday night treat.

    4. DH got a box set of Mad Men, so we watched the first one last night. Think we will enjoy working through this one.:)

    5. Listed old washing machine on EBay for 'spares or repair' and have 1 watcher already! :j

    Sunday

    1. The smell of Roast lamb in the oven.

    2. Listing some more things on EBay. (My aim is to declutter as much as possible this week!).

    3. Old freezer moved to the front of the house ready for collection. Back garden now looks a little less like Stepto's yard!

    4. The sound of the washing machine working after a week without one!!:D

    5. Stopped off to browse at a second hand stall on the way back from dropping DD at work thismorning. Found some really nice clothes for DS2, (Debenhams, Animal, Nike etc), a yoghurt maker and a piece of pottery for my collection of Jaipur Blue all for £7.50. :) The nice thing is that the money all goes to the upkeep of a really nice listed building. A win - win situation :)

Looking forward to catching up with all the OS boards this week. Hope you are all well. HE x
