    Hi all

Thank you to Pam, CCP and Marmite for your kind words of encouragement about my little subversive pursuits!

Kittikins, well done on gym visit, keep it up (do as I say, don't do as I do :o).

Marmite, Swiss Chard is a lovely vegetable, an extremely easy recipe is: chop finelythen sautee in olive oil with chopped garlic and chili, no need to boil first, just make it in a pan with a lid. Use as a pasta dressing. Use in an omelette. Use it on its own as a side dish. Very versatile, very easy to grow if you are so inclined. You can get a very nice variety from Seeds of Italy: http://www.seedsofitaly.com/product/207

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - DD was feeling unwell, very headachey, she came into my bed and I cuddled her like when she was little and massaged her head. Eventually the painkillers worked and she relaxed and fell asleep in my bed, where I left her to go and make breakfast. I am glad I could help a little, poor girl.

2 - I made a nice breakfast for her and DS, who also was worse for wear (self-inflicted though as he had been drinking the night before): scrambled eggs with spinach and mushrooms.

3 - Managed to make the craft class even after all this breakfast making and running around after the kids.

4 - Finished DS's denim bedspread, it looks great, DS loves it, he said it looks really professional!

5 - Found and bought a green cauliflower at the greengrocer near my class, we all love it (the cauli not the greengrocer!).

6 - A friend gave me a lift back from class as I was carrying DS bedspread, so it did not get wet in the drizzle.

    Good night everybody
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hi Everyone,

Hope the misery of the weather hasn't dampened your spirits.

    1) Worked from home today!! WOOHOO!! I got to lie in until 8.59 which was great!

    2) Got some washing done

    3) Been toasty warm in my PJ's and lovely dressing gown. (I admit that I am being a slovenly hussy today...)

    4) Ordered a Graze box using a free code - BR977FD

    5) Washed the kitchen floor... pity I broke the mop while I was doing it!

    Look after yourselves

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • Thanks for the suggestions Caterina.I sliced it finely and cooked it in water with some stock for about 15-20 minutes.I ate the leaves as well.It was delicious.

I'll try sauteeing it as you suggested. The addition of garlic sounds lovely.Do you use fresh chillies?

Unfortuanately I don't have a garden or an allotment.

    I'll buy some more tomorrow.

    Evening all.

marmite / Caterina - I definitely agree re Swiss chard - it's an utterly delicious veg. I like growing rainbow chard, which tastes much the same but has multicolour stems so it looks pretty in the garden. :)

frugalpam - WD on your saving, and I hope you manage to get a proper answer from the big boss about that one. I'm sorry to hear about your tooth - what a shame your saved money will get spent almost before you have it. :(

Pleasures for a cold, soggy, miserable sort of a day ;):

    1) A colleague spotting a peregrine falcon on a neighbouring tower block - that's the first one we've seen in Portsmouth for several years. :D

    2) As it was so cold and miserable today I bought some ready-made soup to go with my lunchtime sandwich, which I paid for using a loyalty card voucher to reduce the guilt a little. :o

    3) Got my new work computer :) - which turned out not to have the software I needed on it :(. I couldn't do much work this afternoon so I spent the time entering competitions - naughty of me, I know. :o (I won't be complaining if I win anything though, obviously!)

    4) Cuddles with my puddy tat - I love it when he's in this mood. (As opposed to biting me down to the bone - the perils of owning a rescue cat, sadly.)

    5) Putting together a meal plan for the next two weeks - I'm trying to run down the freezer contents as the door no longer shuts unless I lean on it :o, and my plan should need me to buy only half a dozen things between now and the Friday after next. :j

Have a nice (hopefully dry) evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

Very early Wednesday morning here! Making the most of time to myself before morning mayhem starts! To be another hot one :( today with a few showers :)

    Tuesday's:
1.Nice walk with DD2 to school & walked back part of way with a neighbour. Got washing hung out , floors swept & washed, DW on and generally front end of house tidy, then.....

2.Hopped on bus to our wee town & went to library & enjoyed another 2 episodes of Casualty (I know, get a life springs to mind.....or a job!) and their aircon!

3.Just missed a bus home, so went to fruit shop & bought 2 brand new yellow bananas , girl asked me was I just going to eat one & I said I was going to make a banana loaf with them..so she pointed me in a direction of a big bag of older bananas for $5. So was most decadent & bought both lots! New & Old. Made 2 lots of banana loaf & will mash & freeze rest of bananas. I weighed the bag when I got home so got almost 2kg fr $5 when they are $6.99/kg new.

4.Very easy tea of either beans on toast or cheese toastie! I was so hot & bothered from heat and couldn't face cooking much.

5.Popped to supermarket to get more bread & milk, back home & sat & watched TV for rest of evening! (still hot & bothered ,was still 29o at 8pm)

Just watching a beautiful sunrise over the hills & listening to yakky, squawky parrots!
Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!

a lovely long sleep this afternoon catching up after lungs keeping me awake a lot last night.

Lots of lovely music on new mp3 player and still more rom to play with

Hubby treated me to a pair of good earphones (I have little ears and need the bud type) cause others have given up the ghost.

I really do love this thread, it helps me look past my problems and find little possitive things I have enjoyed. Hey Ho back to nebulisers crochet and curl up on the settee

One late addition to my post: I tried kumquats for the first time earlier this evening, and have discovered I'm allergic to them. :( The pleasure is that a) the allergic reaction wasn't worse, and b) the swelling round my mouth has now gone down so I don't look like I lost a boxing match anymore. :o

That's an odd sort of pleasure, I know, but it definitely is one!

Sleep well, all (well, eventually in your case, mhagster!).
Back after a very long break!

CCP - sorry to hear about the kumquat :(

    1. NSD :) No. 9 for the year already (for me that is a HUGE achievement)
    2. Even though I was in a horrendous mood today, really miserable and teary, sorry for myself, hating my life, feeling unable to cope with anything etc etc (yawn), when I popped over to see MrA, he just held me and listened, tried to help - and did in a practical way, as he was very lovely and not overly inquisitive and just accepted me for being a bit of a strange girl, what more could I ask for!?!? :)
    3. So looking forward to seeing him tomorrow, as I'm feeling more human again....yippee :)
    4. A friend popped over for a glass of wine and we've managed to restrain ourselves far more than usual, so I'm tipsy rather than in potential hangover city......
    5. I'm hoping to persuade my parents to sign up for the Milk & More offer for me (as I'm already on there) and buy me some bits when we're up there next week :)
