Morning
Been MIA as have been looking after my friends 2 teenagers at their house this weekend. Some pleasures for the last couple of days:
1. Took a days holiday of Friday. In the morning went to Windsor for a browse around the shops on my own. Picked up a few bargains and used lots of vouchers and loyalty points so even though it looked like I had spent alot I hadn't:money:
2. Treat myself to Carlouicco's breakfast, not MSE but lovely and sat in the window so could people spot as well
3. Cooking dinner for both houses and everyone enjoying it
4. After comments from friends children DD appreciating what I do for her a bit more
5. Surving the weekend without incident
6. Getting to sleep in my own bed last night
Hugs to all who need them especially Newlywed, I hope things get better soon.0 -
Monday evening here!
had a good day, nice morning which warmed up a bit too much for me and to continue getting hotter as the week goes on
1. had a nice walk to school with dd2, went to assembly, where all the kids sing the national anthem! Then walked to our wee town. Still pleasantly ,gently warm at this point.
2. had a good mooch around op shop and came away most satisfied with my purchases: a lovely short belted mac in green, a gorgeous soft, large brown bag ( have just checked it's original price $70 & I paid $10), 2 short cardigans and a gorgeous skirt for dd2 and a pair of surf shorts for her too. had a nice chat with shop assistant too!
3.posted a card to a friends mum who's been poorly......the pleasure being I know how much she will appreciate this.
4.went to the library.....made use of my 2 hours free internet & watched another 2 episodes of Casualty........and when Ive caught up there's Holby City to watch as well!!.......and as a bonus it's air-conditioned!
5.Home, did washing, out to dry & all ironed! Made heart shaped pasta macaroni for tea for me & girls & made a kangaroo stew!(kangastew) for DS & OH. .....with rice in a heart shape!
Enjoy your Monday!0 -
Afternoon, everyone. Just thought I'd pop on and post some pleasures of late. Here goes:
1. All the chocolate mousses I made from the Freezer Cookbook have been eaten! I was expecting them to last a bit longer than they did, but I have to say we did enjoy eating them.
2. I treated myself to a packet of "Snaps" from the corner shop. Couldn't resist, as it reminds me of growing up!
3. I found a Christmas present already! I'm thinking of getting organised really early this year and making a stocking...
4. I went to see a friend this morning. It was good to see her, and I'm going to try and visit more often as she doesn't get out much.
5. Cleaning out my baking cupboard - the next item on my list. I like clearing out cupboards as it makes me feel I'm getting somewhere. I haven't done a lot on my day off, but it's a day off
Hope everyone has a good day.

Blimey! Never mind, if we will ever meet them on a real football field we will get our sweet revenge :rotfl:
Rush rush as I need to go cook, so here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Up early, lovely weather, thanks goodness (see below)
2 - Spent 3 cold hours mucking about in the allotment and being interviewed by the BBC One Programme (together with the other allotment holders) as the council wants to put the rents up by 200% and we are organising a big protest. Will let you know when it is on.
3 - Nice hot shower and soup on my return from the allotment, warm and soothing after the cold cold morning.
4 - Went shopping and got lots to carry home but luckily a friend of mine was there and I got a lift in her car.
5 - My friend is coming to have dinner tonight (she is a football-widow tonight, poor girl - how can anyone go to see the football on Valentine day? Even my DH was horrified when he heard!), I am planning a nice kedgeree and the kale I picked up at the allotment yesterday, steamed, plus spinach and avocado salad.
Good night all x
Edited to add a sudden and very nice pleasure:
6 - Just got a call from the manager of the council's library services. I had complained that they no longer allow library users to use their toilet, due to a handful of kids having abused the facility. When I went, a few days ago, I was confronted by a young and officious staff member who "allowed" me, very condescending, "on this occasion only" to use a facility that is no longer open to the public. I remonstrated that it has always been open to library users (you need to ask the key) and was given a long lecture by this silly young woman. The only people allowed to use it now were supposed to be disabled people and people needing to change a baby's nappy. I wrote a long complaint letter saying how it discriminates against older people, people with "invisible" disabilities and even people with mild stress incontinence who should not be put in a position of having to explain themselves. The library services manager just called me and apologised profusely, saying that it was intended that anyone who asks can get the key for the toilet, without having to be questioned about any disability etc. but the message had not filtered down to staff. I thanked him and he assured me that he will put some training in place so that staff know the policy and do not embarrass library users "in need". RESULT!
Good night, off to cook for real now! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening everyone!
Sorry to have been MIA - lots going on in 'real life', and just not getting much computer time recently.
Recent pleasures:-
1) Lovely day recently on a crafting course (card making) - met 5 lovely ladies, and our teacher was brilliant :j
2) Signs of spring - really cheering me up
3) After 2.5 months, I've totally wound down from my stressful workplace and am enjoying life again
4) Thanks to the redundancy money I've been able to afford a super new cooker - being delivered and installed on Saturday(My current cooker is over 20 years old and well past its sell by date)
5) Enjoying my amaryllis and hyacinth flowers
Hope all are well! Well done Caterina on sorting out that officious young library assistant and for writing in/getting an apology!

Good evening all
Had a lovely day today
1 made a pasta bake for OH, bit of ciabatta bread to go with it and been told it was delicious.
2 home made leek and potato soup for me really creamy and so thick you could stand a spoon up in it.
3 washing and ironing all done before 8.00am. felt very virtuous
4 dog walked.
5 went for shop and gossip with friend. Not very MSE but did walk away from handbag i was going to buy. Decided to think about it a bit.0 -
Hi everyone,
Hope you have all had a lovely weekend and your Monday has treated you well!
My trip to Berlin good. The conference was a little dull and the meetings pointless but the weekend with my friends was good.
1) The kindness of strangers - I left my blackberry on the plane back and as I was talking to the lost property people a nice family handed it in... that saved an awkward conversation at work!
2) The kitty cat being pleased to have me home... poor boy has been rather neglected recently but I am not away again for another 3 weeks so he is going to get a lot of love and attention.
3) Making my colleague's boring IT meeting by sending her jokes.
4) Neat and tidy flat to come home to.
5) Paid a cheque into the bank - it was only for a tiny amount but it has been knocking about for a month.
My car is still not fixed (5 weeks without it!!!) but hopefully it will be done by Thursday... pity it is costing a fortune!! Grrr!!!
Night
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all.
Caterina - very well done on your library victory! :T I hope your allotment protest goes as well.
Sunday:
1) Lie-in - there's few things nicer on a weekend morning than lying in bed listening to the rain and knowing you don't have to get up and go out in it.
2) Smoked salmon for breakfast - my favourite!
3) A chat to my parents on the phone.
4) Deciding it was too wet to go outside, so I skipped the pub quiz just for one week and watched silly television instead.
5) Which made it an NSD. :money:
Today:
1) More smoked salmon for breakfast. Sadly that's the last of the giant pack I bought last year - no more salmon for me for a while.
2) Wore my new bargain boots to work and they didn't rub until the very end of the day, which is something of a record for me.
3) Very OS lunch of HM soup, HM sausage roll and a slice of HM bread.
4) Being told we're finally getting new computers at work. :j Our current ones are so old that our IT department won't help if they break down, as they say the machines should have been replaced years ago.
5) Easy dinner tonight of moussaka made with the rest of the bolognaise sauce I made last night. (Which means it isn't really moussaka, I know, but it's a similar sort of thing.)
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Feeling a bit low today but think I can still manage 5
1 A lovely phone call from my gp apologising for a mistake at the surgery meaning my oxygen for a stay at dads was not ordered, but then the respetory nurse only requested cylinders for the return journy not a condenser unit for the 5 day stay anyway. all was well as hubby couldnt drive due to slipping 2 disks and I had to us NHS Transport just for the hospital appointment rather than staying with dad as well.
lovely cuddle with puddy tat.
New mp3 player is lovely and easy to use.
1/4 of the way through filling up 16gig of said new mp3
lovely lazy tea of sausage sarnie, muller light and a large juicy pear.
mp3 didn't come with a neck strap so found a lovely eyore one on ebay that wasn't too expensive and free postage. It matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.
