I'm sorry I missed Sparrer......hope you have a great adventure!
Friday morning, bright & early.Kids return to school today after a long (but most relaxing) holiday....so everyone up & jumping in & out of showers. I know I will find it hard being on my own through the day & will have to make a conscious effort not to spiral into feeling sorry for myself. Would love to get something within school hours & will keep an eye out for suitable jobs.
Yesterdays'pleasures:
1.up bright & early.....finished my knitting whilst cool, assembled 'patchs'on sofa to see how it will look............hmmm .....made with love if nothing else! Sewed it up later!
2.Last trip into town with kids to get a few bits & bobs before back to school. We had a nice lunch together and a good laugh.
3.Made leek & potato soup, rhubarb crumble, apple crumble & some buns. So a nice ,simple but filling tea.
4.a very humid day so the few wee showers of rain were very welcome.
5.being safe & dry with a roof over my head unlike those in north Queensland who's roofs were literally blown off with cyclone yasi. Banana crops which supply 95% of Australia have been decimated.
Shocking stuff.
I paid , talking of shocking stuff , £6 for 5 apples last night. I was horrified when I checked my receipt.........no more apples for a wee while I think, which is a bit sad! The ones in crumble were past their best Granny Smiths that only dd1 likes (the cheap ones!)
have a good Thursday/Friday x0 -
Evening everyone,
Sorry to have gone AWOL these past few days - felt inexplicably down in the dumps, and only just perked up a bit today.
Recent pleasures:-
1) Had a trip to Liverpool - not been there for years, and it was nice going down memory lane and lots of good memories
2) Some detective work on my family tree has paid off and I've found my cousin in Canada :j We're having some good e-mail exchanges and we're each finding out more about our families
3) Meeting up with 2 friends for lunch tomorrow (former colleagues) - looking forwards to that
4) Lots of snuggles with puddy tat
5) Having fallen off the wagon with Weight Watchers, I've maintained my pre-Christmas one stone weight loss.
Hope alll are well - and if you log in Sparrer, have a great trip!

5 for yesterday (Thurs).
1) No boys off school! I think that was the first day for a fortnight everyone has been well (ish) at the same time.
2) Tidied and dusted living room.
3) Watched Holby City - in bed, in the middle of the day!
4) Played cards with my sons until 9pm. We've never really played cards before and it was amazing how quickly smaller son picked the game up.
5) Nearly forgot - got my £50 cheque in the post from YouGov.
6) Made a pudding that everyone liked. Treacle sponge. I hadn't made it in ages.
4oz sugar
4oz butter
6oz flour
2 tbsp milk
treacle!
Grease a glass bowl, treacle in the bottom, mixture on top. Microwave on high for 6 and a half minutes. Watch a collection of children peer through the microwave window to watch it rise! I had to do double the amount but didn't know if a massive one would rise so did it in 2 bowls.
7) MrN came round. :-)0 -
The tone of your posts now is such a tonic, Frith - I really wonder if you are aware of the degree to which this lightness of touch pervades your writing now, no matter their content?
It is so, so good.

1. Another day and an em from afar.
2. Ashley receiving Scholarship on Michel Roux's Service last night. What was the good, good song playing with the credits? Want it.
3. Antiques Road Trip on i-player.
4. Retrieved phone yesterday - luckily not run over or ruined, given that it lay overnight where cars drive in, park and was rained on. I haven't yet peeled the protective plastics from screen or camera. Kind msg on phone when I rtn'd.
5. Have partway succeeded in uploading pics from new camera, thanks to advice on another Thread. Will continue shortly, while listening to sth beautiful on John Snow's DID - what is it? Aaah, part of a Magnificat.

Morning all.
This is just a very quick post of yesterday's pleasures as I should really be doing some of my large mountain of work.
1) Free lunch from work - the catering department always provide twice as many sandwiches as are actually needed, so there's usually plenty left over after a meeting. They're pretty nice sarnies, too.
2) A patch of crocuses in a neighbour's garden which are starting to show yellow.
3) Made sausage rolls for dinner, and very nice they are too. My last attempt wasn't particularly good but I think I've cracked it now - I just need to cook the sausages a bit first so the meat's cooked through at the same time as the pastry.
4) Went out with friends in the evening to a pub quiz. It's not one I've done before but proved to be quite a good evening.
5) Getting home afterwards - the reason I don't usually do that quiz is that it's a 25 minute walk away, and there was a decidedly chilly wind last night. It was good to get in and defrost!
sparrer - you probably won't read this now until you get back, but have a fantastic time.Back after a very long break!0 -
Haven't posted here for a while and haven't caught up with the posts so her are mine for yesterday.
1. Managed to send ebay parcels. The house is very slowly being decluttered and making a small amount of money aswell.
2. Went for a lovely walk and realised that buds are starting to appear on the trees.
3. Long chat with a friend who I haven't spoken to for ages. Great catching up on news.
4. Chicken soup made in slow cooker.
5. Had a chat with a neighbour about plans for the fields behind my house. Seems to be better news than I had thought.
6. Long chat with DS1 on phone,0 -

Hi all
Welcome to Confused76 and welcome back to Villagelife!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Breakfast with DD, DS and a friend of mine who came to collect something. We had spinach, mushroom and feta frittata, they had bread with it, I am low-carbing so no bread. but this sure does not feel like a diet, it was YUMMY!
2 - Gave another friend a bag of fabric to make morsbags (this fabric was kindly donated for morsbagging purposes by another OSer - thank you!), did not join in the morsbag making (because a bit under the weather) but promised that I shall do so as soon as possible.
3 - Lunch with DD, she loved the mixed salad and the french beans with mayonnaise. I loved her company!
4 - Took a walk to have my new specs adjusted by the lovely optician and we also, as always, had a nice chat about life, the universe and everything.
5 - On my way back I stopped to see another friend and we had a cup of tea.
6 - Booked the restaurant for DH's 60th birthday celebration (family coming from North and South England) on Sunday.
7 - The house still looks very reasonably tidy and clean so I had very little housework to attend to today.
8 - DD is not eating here tonight so DH, DS and I can have fish for dinner (she is strictly vegetarian and I try to avoid cooking fish when she is here as she finds the smell unpleasant).
9 - DS just came back from a music session with a friend of his and told me it was good and very productive.
Have a good evening everybody xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
