Evening, everyone. Here's my 5 pleasures for today:

    1. I've regained a bit of my appetite, which is nice.
    2. Toad in the hole for tea worked perfectly. Our oven can be a bit spotty sometimes so it was nice to have it work brilliantly.
    3. Having some leftovers for tea tomorrow night 8)
    4. I've bought a packet of dried chickpeas to try and see what I can make with them. I know DH doesn't like them, not really, but I want to see if I can cook them. A kind of personal challenge, if you like.
    5. DH gave me a Boots voucher for the £5 off No.7 and I was able to pick up some more eye make up remover for £2.75! Very happy with that.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening. I'm still not feeling 100% so I'm taking it easy and not doing a lot tonight. I have to take the train tomorrow for the first time in ages but can't complain as I'll get a leg stretch and a bit of exercise. Take care, all (((hugs)))

Love reading this thread, glad too see I'm not the only one constantly struggling on a diet. Did think about getting some weight loss tablets via online prescription xenicol?? but bottled out as I couldn't bear the possible side effects - unexpected oily discharge!!!!!!:o
Wouldn't fancy doing that while in gym or work. Think I would rather remain overweight.

    Anyway my pleasures
    1. Treated myself to furry slippers with thick soles from M and S. It was nice to not have cold feet while peeling potatoes.
    2. Made a big homemade shepherds pie with grated cheese and my family ate it all with NO moaning.
    3. Was actually beaten twice by my 8 year old playing Countdown much to his and my husbands delight. (I am rubbish and struggle to get above a four letter word.)
    4. Found out today it looks like our Contracts in work will def be extended for 18 months -a big relief.
    5. Going to have an early night with my book as tempted by the creme eggs in the kitchen. Am following Dukan Diet as lost quite a bit of weight on it before Christmas (and promptly put it back on over Christmas) Mince pies and Roses chocolates my big, big downfall.

    Evening

    Pleasures for today:
    1. I had forgotten to take some more porridge into work but the person that sits opposite me gave me a sachet of porridge of theirs so I could have breakfast.
    2. Lots of funny chats today with my friend J who sits next to me but only works part-time so don't see her too often.
    3. Shared what was left of the soup I made yesterday with 3 other people in the office including the person who gave me breakfast. Nice that we can look after each other.
    4. Easy dinner of HM burgers and chips for dinner which went down well.
    5. Sorted out a few banking bits today so all the accounts have the money where it should be.
    6. Sneaky extra one, bought a few things in the Coast sale today and when I got to the checkout they were even cheaper than I had thought so bought a dress, a smart evening wear cardigan and a top for less than half the price that the dress should have been :money:

Hugs to all who need them, hope everyone that has been feeling poorly is better now.
  • This'll have to be quick,as I need to have an early night. For today,a day off-

1 Walked into town and also had a run plus stretches.Too bad that the biscuit tin was right next to me this evening...

2 Got lots of housework done.

3 Made a potato pie to use up some crème fraîche.

4 Had a nice chat with my Mum on the phone tonight.

5 Have rediscovered the delights of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony.

    Frugalpam Congratulations!

    Ampersand Belated Happy New Year.

I've only been offline for a few days and already feel as though I've been away for months! Not helped by the fact I have been looking after children continuously from 3.15 last Friday onwards. Including sicky children...

Random pleasures then as I'm barely aware of what day it is and certainly can't remember what happened when...

    1) MCS (useless debt company) accepted my final offer on my final, final debt! I owed £2,800 but offered £1000 and got a letter a couple of days ago and am just waiting for the paperwork now so I can pay it off. Then I will be debt free!!! :-D

    2) Pretty much up to date with housework etc despite ill children.

    3) Builders are starting work here tomorrow. Want to dash out before they get here and take photos of "before". It is a massive re-pointing job (very old pit cottage) and will take 2-3 weeks.

    4) Dashed out on Sunday to the cinema and watched Gullivers Travels which was pretty good.

    5) Smaller son has been "moved up" a table at school. He is the youngest in his year and has had various special needs but seems to be doing OK... (This happened last Friday, no one has been to school since then!)

    6) Just enjoyed watching Holby City with bigger son on the sofa. Smaller son went to sleep across us and it really is the end of an era - I carried him upstairs while he was asleep and I'm afraid I won't be able to do it again. :-( He is very skinny but now 4 foot 5 and there is just too much of him for me to manouevere safely.

Can't believe I forgot it is Burn's Night (used to have a Scottish Grandad).

    7) Oops! And MrN. :-)

Evening everyone - and thank you so much for the congrats on my 2 years smoke free, I really did appreciate those messages :j
    Today's pleasures:-

    1) Got up at a respectable time (before 10am :o ) - have got a tad lazy since I gave up work
    2) Realise how lovely a tidy house is. I know it's crashingly obvious, but putting things away when I've finished using them makes a huge difference. I'm one of those who tends to leave shoes, magazines, craft stuff etc etc around - and then have to have a marathon tidy up. Duh!
    3) Catching up with phone calls and e-mails
    4) My amaryllis bulb has thrown up another shoot with a fat bud on - just as the flowers on the last stalk have finished blooming. Really love those flowers - and love seeing how much the stalk has grown overnight!
    5) Nice things planned for the rest of the week, none of which will involve spending money

Do hope the poorlies feel tons better soon,

    Pam x

This sparrer is more than ready for her nest after a busy couple of days. Hope everyone is well or will get well NOW :D

    1. DS, his OH and their DS2 arrived last night, but had to leave at the crack of silly o'clock to get LO to GOSH. Still waiting for news but they then had to drive back oop norf, so no doubt they're exhausted too. Lovely to see them though, last time was last August :(

    2. Went back to bed for a couple of hours after they left this morning

    3. Postie brought me a copy of a CSI dvd, thanks to freebie no spend board

    4. A dear friend came by early this pm with a big bunch of flowers (we always buy each other yellow flowers - yellow denotes friendship :))

    5. Got all the guest beds sorted and everything back to 'normal'

    6. Another friend came for tea, we ended up going to the local Indian for supper. They'd sent a Christmas card and mo voucher which had to be used by 31/1, so came in very useful

    7. A very kind OS'er has just returned from her soujourn with some of my favourite soap...thank you :)

    Night night, sleep tight

    Bonjour à tout et à tous -

Must try to find some way through each day now, so will try to make 5 pleasures since returning.

    1. Have just watched live Australian Open. Andy Murray is through. Will watch Rafa later.
    2. Heating engineer will soon arrive for annual check, after which I will take self to College for hair colour skin test. They have been forced to insist on this 48hrs ahead of every appt now, I learnt yesterday. I need to do something different.
    3. Kind A @ Mr T had a look at my phone, new before I left. For me, on top of devastation, found it was not keeping msgs. Turns out this was the 2nd one rtn'd yesterday[top of range Nokia]with same inexplicable fault. He rang Nokia, only to find that they had decided not to include this application in this one model. May have to change again.
    4. Thank whichever deity for oldest friendship in France - long talk with M. as I waited at Tunnel in Calais. Will try and be there for her 66th Bonne Anniversaire mid-March.
    5. Equally, such thanks for Skype with D, having own huge decisions to reach. How patient he was and kind and knowing, this all in the minutes after I returned, switched on putah, only to immediately find a msg asking Wasn't I speaking any more?...but I had done nothing!. Said tentative Hello and D was there! We still don't understand how this happened, but I am so, so grateful.

I am slowly catching up many pages, but like someone else, hope beachbaby's absence is down to pure happiness.

A very special thankyou for two pm's - bless you both.
Wishing everyone a day of life-enhancing small pleasures.

  • I keep coming in to post my pleasures but then get side-tracked reading the past couple of pages!
Hi to all the new posters and hugs for the poorly posters (there seems to be a lot at the moment).

We're having a very-slow-to-start morning as DS2 is unwell and wrapped in a snuggy on the settee.

    Here are mine from yesterday:

    1) I've been writing a home-ed blog which lists all the resources I use for lessons and our on-going projects. It only has 6 followers so I didn't think that many people saw it but when I added a visitor counter I was shocked to see it had reached over 18,000 visitors  So that was a great pleasure :D

    2) DS2 and I had fun listening to different examples of classical music for our study.
    3) Haggis, neeps & tatties for tea. The boys weren't keen but DH and I tucked in heartily (as usual!)
    4) A NSD
    5) Reading in a nice long bath.
