5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

  • 1) Had the big meeting tonight about jobs and so forth. One of the women who has supported me consistently in my job is for the chop - unless she can get a grant for her retraining and can work for our little charity for free in her 'spare' time. Other people have also volunteered to work for nothing. Someone brought in two huge cakes for us to eat while we were listening to the presentation so that we could have "some sweetness" as well as the sad stuff. It amazes me that people who have nothing can be so generous and it's really heartening to see the best side in human nature.
    2) Made a store cupboard tea as there was only DS and me at the table but being a good MSEr, I put the left overs in the fridge - along with all the other left overs. When his gf turned up and needed feeding instantly I was able to offer a range of possibilites.
    3) Was able to give DH a lift to the station for a change. It's usually me being dropped off on a night out but he is out with work at somewhere incredibly posh and fortunately, they will be paying.
    4) Rediscovered my fleece and put that on instead of turning up the heating.

    Hi all

Sparrer, thank you for date notification, I shall put feelers out for a London meet at end Feb/beginning March! Look out for the London OS meet thread.

Zoelikesjam, please feel free to stalk away! Welcome to this thread, hope you will enjoy posting here. I also hope that you are feeling better and recovered from the meet (((HUGS)))

Septembergirl, welcome to this thread too!

Prettypaula, I do not recall seeing you before (perhaps it is because I have been away for a few days) however, if you are new, welcome too of course, good to see so many new people joining in!

CCP, Kitchenbunny and Ladyhawk, get well NOW! (((((Collective hug to all the sickies))))))

Vouchersrme, it is so good to be able to read your name properly now that I know how to pronounce it LOL! Thank you for your kind words re my twins, yes they are both very creative and I am incredibly proud of them (ahhhhh!)!

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Nice breakfast with DD and DS, only had 1 egg but lots of veg so decided to make veg fritters for breakfast, so I sauteed leeks, mushrooms, a pepper and a courgette then mixed some flour and the egg and spooned in hot oil. There, breakfast for 3, they loved it!

2 - Sorted out a lot of things online and offline that needed addressing, including putting a claim for health insurance to get my specs and dentist bill money back.

3 - Lunch with DD and DS, instead of eating out, to save money.

4 - Went to Central London and sorted another couple of things, one was exchanging an item in a shop in Marylebone (done, no problem), the other was obtaining a refund for something I had bought in John Lewis Cardiff ages ago, but had no receipt (but it still had the tag attached, never worn). I had paid £40 but the scan said it is now down to £24. After a fair amount of faff and palaver at the customer service office, they managed to trace my payment via my John Lewis credit card and I was able to obtain the price I had paid, in vouchers. Result! I have to say, the service was impeccably pleasant and polite, even with all the faff.

5 - A friend came to have dinner with us and it was lovely to see her. We had leek and potato soup, so now the leek and potato mountain is a bit reduced!

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

John Lewis are the best company aren't they - well, them and Lakeland! Glad you were able to get the refund situation sorted.

    1. A lovely evening with MrA last night :):)
    2. Bumped into a couple of friends after a doctor's appointment this morning.
    3. Managed to download a chat application onto my mobile and had very funny chat with a friend in Texas I've been out of touch with for ages :)
    4. Ordered myself a DVD player for free a part of a work bonus scheme, having tried freegle to no avail.
    5. YS bread in Te$co's.

Kittikins, yes JL are just great - I was thinking that, even if a bit more expensive than other places, they really make a shopping experience really rewarding because of their pleasant attitude and amazing professionalism!

Just one more thing dear friends, I promised to help another OSer to post pictures on the threads, I have done it before, but unfortunately now I just cannot manage to find the help link. Could anyone please help by posting the link on how to post images and photos? Thank you all very much!

Oh yes, I agree about JL and Lakeland too. I've been thinking about this quite a bit since LL replaced my slow cooker crockpot for free even though I told them that it was my fault that it had got broken. Absolutely stunning. :D The staff are knowledgeable and give you time. Our veggiebox people, although expensive, are like that too, and they have a 'no quibble' problem-fixing attitude (not that there are many problems). I think that the thing I like most with all of these companies, apart from lovely customer service, is a sense of mutual trust and honesty. It's very old fashioned. If I only buy things I really need that are very good quality then I'm willing to pay a bit more for good service like this.

Heigh ho... my five for today which has been extremely patchy so it's been a bit of a struggle to find them.

    1. Sorted out an administrative nightmare for something we've got coming up.

    2. Had a good chat on the phone with another parent.

    3. Did a load of tidying up in the sitting room.

    4. DS2 has managed to crash his laptop and it appears that the hard drive might have gone kaput. However, he took it to the menders just down the road and it looks as if we might have a rather good company right on the doorstep who have a repair workshop on the premises so that is very useful to know about.

    5. Got DS2 to go to bed earlier than usual tonight - he really needed it, as do I.

    Night night

Hi everyone, and welcome to the new folk joining the thread!
Quickie from me as it's really way past my bedtime:-

    1) Pleased to hear what a successful and fun meet-up was had in Birmingham - wish I could've joined in
    2) Love reading all the delicious sounding meals and meal ideas posted on this thread
    3) Managing to keep my house lovely and tidy - and as a result it's a lot easier to keep on top of the hoovering and dusting as I'm not having to move stuff out of the way :o
    4) Lovely visit to a friend's today - she had a
'late' baby (he was rather a suprise) and I enjoyed cuddling her 5 week old little son - gave him his bottle and he slept for ages in my arms. Awwwww
    5) Cuddled puddy tat most of the evening
    6) Ta-da! 2 years today since I quit smoking

Hope those under the weather are soon feeling better,

    Pam x
