    1. Back home after a good drive
    2. Dad gave me half a jar of olives that apparently won't get used up!
    3. DD and I made a gorgeous birthday cake
    4. NSD - did spend, but only money that my daddy dearest gave me, so I'm counting it ;)
    5. MrA is coming over soon, once DD is tucked up in bed. Can't wait to see him :):):)

    Hi Everyone,

Been a very lazy day - spent mostly in bed as I am coming down with a sore throat so treated myself to new book.

    1) New book was Room by Emma Donoghue. It's a really different book... absolutely heartbreaking in places but well written. It similar in a way to The Lovely Bones as in it is so unusual and deals with a really horrific subject in a really sensitive way.

    2) Took a step into the modern world by finally downloading skype. I tried to call my mother using it though and it wasn't very successful so I will have to buy a microphone and hopefully that will make it clearer for her.

    3) My mum called me back on the landline and we had a good chat.

    4) A friend sent me this link which I thought was pretty cool: http://tv.gawker.com/5739763/dueling-cellos-play-smooth-criminal who knew chellists could be so gorgeous??

    5) Cuddles with the kitty on the sofa... he is such a lovely boy.

    6) Writing in my diary - I have done it in months so it felt good to do a recap.

Don't want to go to work tomorrow. :( At least i ease into it by having meeting in London which I will be getting the 9.30 train for so at least it is not an early morning!

    night all

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

good morning, limited internet today ,so I have to be very quick!
Hope everyone is well & enjoying the rest of their weekend, our new week has already started with the lovely sound of falling rain & an actual breeze coming through the window!
Yesterdays pleasures.......mmmmm ...need to think hard, was very hot & humid & I struggled a bit with heat!
    1. Made a huge pot of veg soup.....all the veg that didn't get used up as we were away, thrown in the pot. Apparently very tasty & enough left for lunch today. I made tomato soup for me & OH had a bowl of each!
2.Made 2 banana cakes, 1 has gone already, it is very moreish. Also made 24 chocolate cupcakes. I do not love my oven!
3.An afternoon spent reading day before's paper & supplements. It came with a free hat for Australia Day(Weds).
4.As it was so hot & humid no-one could face much for tea, so DD2 made us tasty crusty rolls with salad.....ice cream for pud.
5.Sat & watched the film 'Australia'. It was on until midnight but managed to stay awake. I enjoyed it & it actually covered some of our new found knowledge we had gained at the museums in Canberra. Over here, the programmes have twice as many ad breaks as in UK. A half hour programme will have 3-4 breaks, which is annoying! So I know the film was a long one but rather stretched out with all the bloomin' ads!

So today, I plan to be constructive & work with the cool air instead of working against the hot air........just means I can't get washing out. We have an invitation from library to attend a party in honour of summer reading group DD's were part off.........and it's op shop day! see what bargains a-wait me!
  • Nice to see you back, Elizabunny and I hope something really lovely happens soon.

    1) A great service about peace and trust this morning, which set me up nicely for all the stuff going on at work tomorrow. I now know I still have a job but other people will not.
    2) DS's gf was around most of the day and DD's bf is coming home from Uni tomorrow.
    3) Home made chicken soup and cornbread for tea.
    4) Managed to clear our drain grid with an idea from a fellow MSEr. Possibly it was Charlie'sAunt who suggested cutting a plastic milk container in half and using the bit with a handle for a scoop. I think she meant for food but it did very well with all the icky leaves underneath the pipe where our dishwasher water empties into the drain and the 'bowl' bit of the container meant that I could scoop it all into something and throw both bits in the bin without getting my hands dirty. Superb!
    5) Am about to catch up with the Edible Garden, which I also heard about on MSE and perhaps My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. There is half a bottle of wine left in the fridge from when DH's parents came around last night so I can forsee a very peaceful hour to round the day off.

Hugs to all posters and lurkers that need one.
  • For today (a day off):

1 Had a great decluttering season, not that you notice any difference unfortuanately.

2 Another bright, sunny day,but bitterly cold. The water I put out for the birds keeps freezing.

    3 Went for a run.

4 Busy in the kitchen:a big pot of soup and another (smaller)Austrian curd cheesecake.I made it with ricotta, but hope to make it with HM curds, using my veggie rennet.

5 As part of my resolution to watch an unwatched film every week (out of my massive collection),have watched 'It Always Rains On Sunday'.

Ladyhawk sorry to hear about your friend.

CCP whipkull is like zabaglione (sp?) apparently. It was very nice.

    Good night x

    Evening

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Up reasonably early this morning and made chocolate cup cakes and breakfast muffins. Later in the day made some cheats sausage rolls.
    2. Weekly food shop came in well under budget thanks to meal planning and having a well stocked freezer and store cupboard
    3. While I was shopping DD emptied all the bins around the house and cleared the draining board plus she said my chocolate cakes were lovely. Kevin has left the building for another day.:D
    4. Walked into town with DD and picked up some shoes for us both in the Monsoon sale with 70% off. Also picked up some bits in Claires (thanks MSE:money:) to put in the present box.
    5. Chilli tacos for dinner tonight. Nice and easy plus quite tasty but a bit messy to eat.

Off to have a hot lemon drink now as feeling a bit of a chesty cough coming in:mad:
Hugs to all who need them

    My 5 pleasures
    1. Catching up on "Shameless" with a nice cup of tea. Dreadful language and very near the knuckle but I love it.
    2. Sorting out a box and getting rid of bank statements from 2003.
    3. Having a game of Cluedo with my 8 year old.
    4. Going to Laura Ashley and coming home with several wallpaper samples. The front room hasn't been decorated for approx 8 years and looks like it. LA not very moneysaving but 60% off.
    5. Making a roast dinner and the kids eating all the vegetables with no moaning.

    Hi all

A very quick post as it is late (for me) and I am just back from the meet in Birmingham and am very tired.

Here is a bunch of random pleasures:

1 - The whole weekend away from home, together with DH!

2 - Meeting so many lovely OSers, as always we clicked well and had a great time both on Saturday and again on Sunday when we met again (with some) for breakfast

3 - The hotel was very nice, clean and quiet

4 - Got a very interesting diet book with Cosmo magazine, Neris and India idiot-proof diet. Very high protein and very low carb but for goodness sake, I have tried and failed so many times, I might just give this one a go (found the forum pig2twig where there are suggestions for non-meat-eaters like me).

5 - Coach trips there and back quite comfortable, both dpeartures and arrivals punctual

    6 - Coming back home!

7 - DD and her BF had cooked us a nice light dinner of rice and peas

8 - DD showed us the project she is working on for Uni, amazing stuff, really creative!

9 - DS showed us the latest recording he made with his friend, very good. I am so proud of my creative children!

Good night everybody, will catch up better tomorrow xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Quick posts from me too...

    1. Lovely afternoon filming outdoors (and the rain held off). It was lovely to be in woods and on open hillsides as well as being creative.

    2. Stopped off at my sister's on the way home and had a catch up with her family. My two had a good time being with their younger cousins.

    3. The cup of tea I had there sitting infront of their real fire was perfect.

    4. We watched the footage when we got home and the DSs messed around with playing different music tracks behind it - some very funny ones - and it made us all laugh a lot.

    5. I've gone through my massive 'to do' lists (we have an awful lot of things going on in parallel at the moment) and we've all been able to tick lots off. :)

    Sleep well,
    B x

Hello, evening for me, so here are Monday's pleasures:
1.Refreshing rain & clear air this morning.......however it did brighten up so got washing out, dried and ironed.
2.was very productive this morning in the cool air.....designated some tasks & got house tidied.
3.We went down to our 'town' and went to party at library, it was exceptionally busy which was good to see the service being so well used. Plenty food & juice for kids & the funniest kids entertainer! I used the internet for an hour, can use it for 2 hours each day. me & DD1 discovered we can watch Corrie or Easties on youtube in library! so will take headphones next time! Got a few more glossy magazines!
4.Well....it was op shop day! Got 2 beautiful skirts for dd2, 1 still had tags on at $45.99.Got it for $7, which is about £4. It's really pretty, then along to salvos (Salvation Army op shop) and dd1 got 2 tops & a gorgeous dress. 1 top still had tag on for $49.99 got it for $8. It is very floaty & pretty. And the dress was $8. Just checked online & they retail at $80. So some good bargains today.......nothing for me though :( Got them all washed, out on line, dried & ironed too! (am I too smug?)
5.I had a simple tea of yesterdays veg soup then went for a walk round block. feeling a bit unfit, everyone else losing weight & I've put a few pounds on! Back to school next week & walking up & down hills so need to get a bit of practise put in!

    So a good day,
Hope you all have a good start to your week.
