5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Catching up again.
1. Being amazed that it's mid January and we're still managing to sleep under our summer duvet.
2. Going to the garden centre to get some compost to start my peppers and chilli seeds off and being given getting a free poisetta plant in full bloom (£4.99), a small pot of tete a tete narcissi (£1.99) and a packet of free tomato seeds (£1.99). Actually I would rather have been given the bag of compost free instead as I could perfectly well manage without the freebies, but shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
3. Getting into the spirit of Hugh F-W's fish campaign and having mackerel fillets on winter roast vegetables for lunch.
4. Skype phone call from overseas friend. Nice to touch base again.
5. Paid the dreaded taxman some back tax which was owing. I normally leave this in my account until the latest possible day in January but decided to get it over and done with so I can tick it off my list. Now that I've made this generous gesture, perhaps the Treasury will play their part and try to do something to mitigate the horrendous amount of petrol duty we're now having to pay.:eek:0 -
Evening all.
Primrose - well done on your bargains! I'm particularly jealous of your narcissuses (narcissi?), as I'm of the opinion you can never have too many yellow flowers.
mhagster - I really fancy some gingham bedding now - I'll have to have a scout around and see if I can find something like yours.
Mine for today:
1) Earned some brownie points by giving a senior colleague a lift to a meeting. It was a bit naughty of us to take the car as it was only 3/4 mile or so from the office, but we both had several folders to carry, and it was p*ing down with rain, so we decided that not drowning took precedence over being environmentally friendly, just this once.
2) The same colleague taking my word for something in the middle of the office - she's a very intelligent, competent lady, so for her to take my judgement over her own is very flattering indeed.
3) Used my £10 off in Waitrose voucher, from last weekend's paper. :money:
4) And treated myself to some yellow tulips.
5) The sauce for tomorrow night's lasagne is cooking as I type, making me feel scarily efficient.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening
Pleasures for today:
1. Took some chocolate left over from christmas into work, made me very popular with anyone who happened to come into our office today.
2. Had it confirmed that we have submitted 100% of our audit evidence for the big financial audit that we have to do every year.
3. More of the baby blanket done so should be able to finish it over the weekend and get the next one started
4. Tasty HM chicken and veg pie for dinner which everybody ate. Was hoping there would be some left for tomorrow but no such luck.
5. It's Friday:j:j:j
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Bit earlier today, thank goodness.
My five for Friday:
1. Another NSD.
2. Some very sensible and willing conversations with DS1 about getting all the things done we need to get done in the next few weeks.
3. First try at a veggie Tikka Masala (courtesy of M&S jar of sauce - on offer). Finished off an old bag of rice with it as well. The whole meal was really tasty. Will be buying more of that sauce next week if it's still on offer since the DSs really liked it and I can hide all kind of veg box veggies in that!
4. Pottering in the kitchen with Classic FM on. It's really good in the evening because the presenters don't talk much, just play music which I like and it feels very peaceful.
5. Weighed myself. I've now lost 4lb since the 1st Jan. Good good.
Sleep well

Hi all, been a very bad sparrer today and spent far more than I intended, but bought some beautiful clothes - and a few necessary ones, so I've salved my conscience just a teeny weeny bit
beachbaby where are you? Missing your posts
broomstick well done on your strength of mind not buying chocolate. I'm not very keen on it but would feel the same about cheese. If I don't have some most days I get withdrawal symptoms!
CCP I empathise, I received something from my Dad's will recently but know which I'd prefer. Hope it helps you out or gets you something you'd really like
GirlySquare yummy pizza
Primrose here's another one joining the HFW fish campaign, one can make a tiny difference, together we can make a lot.
Blimus well done on getting the library books, they're always a good buy. Fingers x'd that your DS1's book review gets featured
Caterina thanks for the reminder, it's about spring cleaning time here too. Am starting on the bathroom tomorrow as the forums will be down. La Boheme is a favourite of mine, never heard it in English though
Mhags your weather sounds almost as changeable as here in UK, but it's certainly not dry enough to hang washing out yet. The candles sound good value, pleased to hear there are some things you can buy reasonably
1. bought some nice things in the sales, two dresses, a cozzie, some undies, a very pretty dress ring and a pair of 'flight sox' all for under £40. One of the dresses, a new one! (I never buy new!) was only £5 in M@t@l@ns sale
2. Stopped at Mr M on the way home and got some lovely ys ham (4 good slices) on the bone for 50p and a big tub of beetroot for 30p.
3. Postie delivered a leaflet telling my I can have a free will drawn up for a donation to cancer research, so will make an appt after the weekend.
4. She also delivered a leaflet telling me I'm entitled to have my television 'switched over', whatever that means, for free
5. No heating on today
Night night, sweet dreams, have a good day tomorrow and see you on Sunday

5 for today, goodness knows what I did yesterday!
1) MrN took the boys to school (I'm ill).
2) Went to the doctor's and was pleased to learn I don't have diptheria (as I was wondering in the middle of the night), just your typical viral infection of the throat, mouth, sinuses etc. :-S
3) My mother came round to make me tomato soup. This is unheard of but was very welcome.
4) Spent a quiet evening with sons watching Top Gear then all lying in my bed to watch Dr Who on iplayer.
5) Bigger son told me his life's ambition - to perform Jake the Peg in front of his school.
Little bit stressed as MrsN has reappeared. I was told she was coming tomorrow to collect stuff (she has been gone 1.5 years now) but she appeared this afternoon and is still there (?????) So don't know if MrN is coming round. Don't know what's going on at all, really, and I can't say I'm terribly amused at his inability just to send me a text to let me know.0 -
My pleasures from the last day or two:
1. Had my endoscopy yesterday- not a pleasure in itself but something I know I was worrying about. They did not find anything terrible on their travels (!) so think I may not have an ulcer (or worse) but maybe gallstones instead. I have been reading up on gallstones and can probably sort the pain I am getting out with a better diet, which will help my weight loss and general health as well.
2. Some lovely messages from friends and real TLC from OH when I wasn't feeling great.
3. Had some great feedback from ebay buyers. I always do my very best to offer a good service and make them happy but you never know!
4. Going to cook a slow cooker beef casserole today which will last two meals, with lots of healthy veggies.
5. Lots of cuddles and "I love you"s from DS.
On another note, I was hoping to buy a second freezer, to keep in the garage that's attached to the house. Does anyone know if freezers run okay in a cold place? Hadn't even thought twice about this until speaking to my mum who thought it was a bad idea....0 -
Morning, everyone. Sorry for not being about a lot lately - I've had a few problems with stress and aches & pains. The car broke down last Thursday while I was travelling to work (thankfully have breakdown cover) and it was a replacement clutch job.
Anyway, I picked the car up the following night and drove it for the majority of this week, but it wouldn't start yesterday morning - now the starter motor has gone.
We had to bump start it and drive it to the garage which is where it is now. I think it should be ready today, but I'm already wondering what'll go wrong next with it. Add to that I've a sprained ankle and am stressed with work... It's not been a great week or two.
In trying to find some pleasures though, here goes:
1. When I had to bake something the other day, I made a batch of rock buns to fill the rest of the oven. I felt a bit satisfied with that.
2. Found a lamb breast in Mr T and have a hankering to do a stuffed breast of lamb with mushroom stuffing roasted on a bed of sweet potato roasties.
3. (Ditto found a bag of 4 BIG sweet potatoes on the market for £1!) I gave one to a colleague as I won't be able to eat all of them.
4. A bit of a cooking day planned for today, with a steak and ale pie in the slow cooker planned.
5. No, that's about it really.
Not a lot planned today. I'll be resting my ankle and doing a bit of cooking and cleaning. DH wants me to start doing my Pilates again to help with my stress levels. Bless him, I was thinking he wouldn't understand my stress issues, but he's been really good about it. I've got some serious squirrel tendencies going on in my head at the moment - I don't know why but I feel like I should be stockpiling a few things. This week I've been looking for bargains on rice and tinned stuff, but also some RTC veg which I'm freezing. I dunno.
Have a good day, everyone.

Only one so far today - getting out into the garden to do some tidying up. That and the fresh air will keep me going for the rest of the day.0
