    Hi Everyone,

I have had a very bad day .

It started with me being slightly late for work... and then my car decided to get up to its old tricks and immobilised itself (this is after I spent nearly £1000 on getting it fixed 2 months ago...) So it is back in the garage...

    1) The nice recovery driver was the same one that recued me last time and he was friendly and remembered me...

    2) So I decided to work from home... :j

and my new work laptop's wifi wasn't working so I couldn't access the files I need... so when I tried to host a training webinar (its a conference call with an online presentation) this afternoon I didn't have the presentation to go with it... it went ok as I remembered most of what I needed to tell everyone but the impact was reduced as I didn't have the wizzy graphics to back it up...

Then I decided to sort out my car insurance... which was gone up to over £500!!! EEK!!!

    3) But I spoke to a really nice telesales guy and we had a bit of banter. They are going to see what they can do on the price and come back to me tomorrow.

    4) Tidied the flat

    5) My friend popped round to pick up they key for my flat - she's going to be cat sitting while I'm away. It was nice to have a chat with her.

    Night all

  • Evening everyone - Good day for me today, no real particular reason, just quite jolly
    OS pleasures for today

    1. Great day at work - did loads of work (sadly not my own) but covering for ill / absent colleagues, But a resounding success, and less stress for them to return too
    2. Almost a NSD, but caved in and had a choc bar at 4pm at work, so a low spend day
    3. Pizza, wine & Indiana Jones tonight with OH
    4. Reserved £15 Halfords camp cooking set for this summers hols in Cornwall
    5. Saw a fully grown man playing with a yo-yo whilst walking down the street which amused me

One for yesterday too as didnt post - Spotted a fox on my way to work, and tommorrow.. have access to a colleagues office to get some work done in the peace & quiet rather than the open-plan mayhem im used to.
  • 1) breakfast in bed
    2) cuddles from dd
    3) reasonable journey to work and back
    4) remembering I still have the Hotel Chocolat gift bag and that my work colleague kindly bought it for me :)
    5) watching 'no ordinary family' on Watch, could be good

Hullo all, haven't posted on 'Old Style' before (at least, I don't think I have!) I am addicted to this site and seeing what everyone does to save pennies, I've got some fab ideas from you lot!

    * Got Xmas 2011 wrapping paper up to roofspace - got it in the sales - my most bargainous of which are 4 rolls of Simpsons paper for 29p each!

*Found out from a friend that I should be entitled to free cavity wall insulation and roofspace insulating.

*A kindly neighbour fixed 3 burst pipes and an airlock from mums heating system, thus saving her call out fees, parts and labour (mum lives in her own house but it still feels like a victory for me - I love a money saving story!)

*NEARLY had a NSD day only I had to buy nail strengthener after I potato peeled half my nail off on Xmas Eve, still not healed - ouchie. (£2.99 in corner chemist, double ouchie!!)

*Have just read thread on how to use up my jar of leftover mincemeat - result!

    Evening all,

    Here's my 5 for today

    1) Sorted out our box room which is full of books. Had a very pleasant time arranging them all and rediscovering old favourites! So pleased to have my sanctuary back.
    2) Had a friend round and had a good chat while the kids amused each other (apart from when they upset each other and we had to intervene)
    3) Cooked lovely pasta and meatballs for dinner and managed to involve little one, thus entertaining him as well.
    4) Enjoying reading the list of S*n holidays (how times have changed!) deciding where to go for our cheap holiday
    5) Eating Nutella off a spoon!!
Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!

    Evening

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Big pile of ironing done this morning before work
    2. Lunch at the pub today with the girls from work for a good gossip. Also had tasty jacket potato with chilli.
    3. A little bit more done on the blanket I am making. I will get this one finished.
    4. Must be the night for meatballs and pasta. As that's what we had for dinner followed by the last of the HM bakewell tart
    5. OH in a very good mood now as Ipswich have just beaten Arsenal at football.
    6. Just reached the points total so that I can order a £15 Love2shop voucher. Haven't recived the one I ordered in November yet though, just as well I don't need them unitl December;)

Hugs to all who need them. Ladyhawk and CCP hope you both have better days tomorrow

5 for yesterday (Tuesday). Shall update today's later on.

    1) Went to the college to have my hair cut - £4.95.

    2) Managed to get smaller son some school trousers that fit. At 7, he is supposed to be 122cm tall (according to M and S etc) but is 135cm tall. Anyway, 8 year old M and S I found almost fit - a bit short in the leg and a bit too much fabric around the middle but better than the others.

    3) Had a letter from my friend who was my flatmate from when I first went to University. She is in Australia now with 3 children!

    4) Made a double amount of flapjacks which had all gone by this morning...

    5) MrN came round. :-)
  • 1) Dug an old jacket out of the wardrobe this morning and got a compliment on it at work.
    2) Made soup at half past ten last night so that I could take it in for lunch.
    3) The chicken scraps and all the rest of the wrinkly veg went into a chicken tortilla-like thing with some potato wedges.
    4) Realised, just in time, that my OU assignment was due in before midday tomorrow so did a bit of work on it this evening and have posted it off on the email service.
    5) Had a surreal moment when I got to the till in the local supermarket with a week's worth of shopping and was told that they had run out of carrier bags. Fortunately, I have been using bags for life for a while and had enough with me. It just makes you realise that it doesn't take much to stop the system working.

    Hiya :)
Sparrer, BT had big problems with their network in chunks of SE England on Tuesday which I was told was the reason that my internet disappeared for the whole day (and night), only mine didn't seem to want to switch back on when everyone else's had which is why I didn't post yesterday.
    (((((Hugs))))) CCP and Ladyhawk.

Anyway, here's five since my last post:

    1. Dealing with a very patient man at my internet suppliers to get the system back running again. It took over 30 mins but we did it!

    2. Getting the whole week's shopping done on Tuesday including getting some good M&S bargains and using my voucher. Like you Caterina, I think it's worth it while they have the offers on and my emergency food cupboard has been benefitting.

    3. Another NSD. I've only spent money at the shops on two days so far this year with no cheating :D, not for even a tiny little chocolate bar, although I've been tempted. It's working wonders for avoiding junk food and unnecessary calories.

    4. Finishing off the stilton and onion chutney from Christmas. The stilton (a present) was a posh one which came in a lidded pot so I now have a lovely white china pot as well.

    5. Started a spreadsheet of this year's spending. It's very much easier to organise now that I only spend money on one day a week. I don't lose the receipts this way.

    Sweet dreams

    5 for yesterday (Weds).

    1) Went with my mum to get her a laptop. She has had various ancient computers over the years. I set it up for her in the kitchen (put MS Office on and got it connected to the homehub). She seemed a bit underwhelmed but I left her and dad watching a documentary about Morris dancers on iplayer!

    2) Made a stir fry for tea.

    3) Bigger son has got himself into hot water again - this is the problem with being atheist and there only being C of E primary schools for miles around... The assembly yesterday was particularly religious and he was told off again for not praying. :-S I really will have to go and speak to the teacher about that. Then the head was talking about the Earth being created and held up a globe and asked the school who made it. Bigger son, already annoyed about 1 telling off, said, "A globe factory".... :-D

    4) Made a doctors appointment. I have now been ill for over a month - in fact since I had some penicillin for an ear infection and found I was allergic to it. I've still got the remnants of hives, esp in my mouth. I have had a cold for a month too!

    5) MrN came round. :-)
