5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

A thought provoking day today because I finally found out why one of my colleagues has been so withdrawn - they're having to sell up and downsize. It's a pretty sad indication of the times we're living in, I think.
1) Taking some stuff into work that I'd done last night at home and getting a positive response. I'm not sure how long our particular charity will go on and I want to go out on a high.
2) An offer of a babysitting job for DS from someone at church - meeting the children twice a week after school and looking after them until their Dad gets in. I hope it comes off because it will be good training for him!
3) A reduced chicken for tea with jackets and veg from the porch. My porch is such an excellent fridge. No doubt it would be tidier if it wasn't full of sprouts but I'm a sucker for reduced vegetables too.
4) Wearing my hair up for the day. Nothing fancy but it feels good to get it off my neck for a change.
That's all folks. Hugs to all the posters and lurkers that need a sisterly shoulder.0 -
Now this made me smile... how cute is the possum?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12155511Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening
Pleasures for today:
1. NSD - first for a long time
2. Lovely HM soup for lunch - chicken, veg and lentil. Must keep up taking lunch to work.
3. DD getting a C grade in her science mock exam. I know this may not seem a high grade to most but this is a major achievement for her as she really struggles at school. She had the 2nd highest mark in her class so was really pleased.
4. Not a healthy dinner but had HM chips topped with chilli and cheese for dinner. Everyone polished off their plates. This was followed by the last of the crumble made yesterday for OH and me and bakewell tart for DD.
5. Got a bit more of the baby blanket I am making done. Checked the wool situation for the next one I need to make and just need to buy 2 balls of white wool as have enough lilac to make a pretty lilac and white blanket. Will post a pic when done.
Hugs to all who need them or just want one0 -
Hi all
I had a fantastically hard-working day today, but sometimes I get discouraged as the more I tidy up, the more clutter emerges from seemingly nowhere, it feels like painting the Forth bridge! However, let's look at the positive, here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Got up early and had a nice healthy breakfast of fry-light-ed egg on brown pitta bread and grape juice.
2 - Good weather, so 3 loads of washing done and most of it almost completely dried out on the line.
3 - Did a M&S shop with the £5 off voucher and got lots of cupboard staples for what seems very little money, and because of being M&S they are extra-good quality.
4 - AT long last I managed to clear the corridor of all the debris that had accumulated, lots of jackets of unknown provenience on the coat hanger, boxes full of goodnes knows what, scarves and bags all over the place - I tidied it all up and gave away at least half a dozen jackets on freecycle, together with some of my old clothes that I had not worn for over a year.
5 - After the corridor I was still being consumed by the sacred fire of decluttering, so I tackled the (horribly dusty and greasy) cookery books that lurked on top of the tallest shelf in the kitchen. I washed the covers one by one with a damp soapy cloth, I dried them and then separated them in what I want to keep (approximately half of them), what I want to give away, and threw a few away because they were beyond repair. I also threw away a very antiquated baby weaning book which had a lot of nice weaning recipes but unfortunately also a lot of horribly dangerous advice (give nuts to babies of 9 months, give formula made up by cow's milk and water etc...) and I got worried that any new mother who did not know better would follow this advice and hurt their babies. So off it went, duly broken to avoid retrieval, into the recycling bin!
6 - Dinner out with DH, Yo-Sushi, using the 40% off voucher. Still too expensive though, so only a one-off treat.
7 - Taster ballroom dance class with DH bought with city deals voucher very cheaply. Unfortunately the course itself is really expensive so we won't enrol - it is too far from home and it would mean a dinner out every week, which we want to avoid, and a late return home. But we decided to have a look whether our local adult ed. does a class (they do! We might start tomorrow if they have spaces!). And it is much cheaper.
8 - DD's BF was successful at an interview and if his trial goes well tomorrow (in a patisserie) he might have a job! Cross fingers for him, he really needs it!
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Caterina, thanks so much for the reminder about the M&S voucher. It's the weekly shop tomorrow and I'll stop off and stock up on M&S offers using the voucher. I would have forgotton and just gone to Mr S.
My five for Monday:
1. Another NSD and £1 in the pot. We've made it through week 1 of 2011 without spending any extra cash.
2. We went into town to collect DS1 at tea time and I realised that the car has still got a full tank so I won't need to fill up tomorrow. Tomorrow's veggiebox is the freebie one they forgot to give us before Christmas as well so that will save yet more money hence me being able to afford an M&S shop!
3. Stopped off at my sister's to admire the new kitchen extension they are having built. It's going to be stunning. It was good to see them again.
4. Very simple dippy egg and soup supper. Remembered to boil eggs for tomorrow's packed lunches and defrost some bread and buns for tomorrow too.
5. Got absolutely masses of washing done and dried.
Sleep well,
B x0 -
Yesterday's joys
1. The new man was fabulous, and I'm seeing him again tonight
2. Managed to catch up on lots of my college work that I'd been putting off since the end of November when I'd last attended my evening class, so was able to wing it through the class last night. Phew!!
3. Was given a DVD player from a freegler, that I will put, together with my "old" flat screen tv in my bedroom and give myself a bit more space
4. YS bread and a sandwich which gave me a very quick tea as I rushed from one place to another yesterday evening.
5. Realising that I'm still "in profit" for this year based on spending versus income from work expenses, money owed from friends etc. Wow!
6. Somehow I've lost 7lb in a week without even trying, must be all the excitement!! Long may it continue0 -

Well done Kittikins! Wish I knew your secret.
Just a couple of ad-hoc postings:
1. Free carrier bag of fresh lamb bones with little bits of meat still on them from our friendly butcher yesterday. They're cooking down for stock to make a nice Scotch broth which will last for a couple of days.
2. Managed to haggle with my car insurer to negotiate a £25 reduction in my next premium.0 -
I have been following the dreadful, dreadful flooding in Queensland on the news today. It is horrific.
So my pleasures are really that ,thankfully, we are safe & sound where we live. People have lost their homes, cars, life possessions & in some cases their lives.
1.We've had a lazy day, just pottered about.
2.Rain, in a nice amount, to water the gardens, fill the resevoirs
3.Sorting out my very full email inbox , been meaning to do for a while......bit of a work in progress but I have made a good start!
4.Nice dinner of HM chicken fried rice..........and a healthy orange for pud! I don't eat as much fruit as I should. I eat a lot of veg, easily, but have to make an effort to eat fruit. It's always there in plentiful amounts so will try & eat more.
5.Final pleasure....well we are fortunate to be where we are!
Hope you all have a good Tuesday, take care x0 -
Morning everyone!
Lovely bright sunny day here - doesn't matter that it's cold, the sunshine makes me feel so much better :j
Yesterday's pleasures :-
1) Lovely day with a friend yesterday, catching up on chat and playing with her gorgeous cocker spaniel puppy
2) Amaryllis looks like it'll burst into bloom during the next few days
3) Feeling positive about the de-cluttering I'm doing. There's a long way to go, but doing it in half hour sessions all adds up, and there's real prospect of having my craft room in the not to distant future
4) The daily joy of not having to trudge in to work and put up with such a negative atmosphere: am realising more and more how all the negativity and pressure was affecting my health and attitude of mind
5) Love reading this thread - it's so uplifting
Will try to get back on later to post today's pleasures, but for now have a great day everyone

Hope you have a good evening, Kittikins. :-)
Here are my 5 for yesterday (Monday).
1) Looked after MrN's son4 and that went quite smoothly. Good old Wii!
2) Mum popped in and brought me a bunch of tulips.
3) Made tea for everyone and was even pleased with it myself (which is rare). Just a roast but every bit was nice.
4) Listened to Sorry I Haven't a Clue on iplayer.
5) MrN popped round, albeit for 5 minutes. Quite a few stresses for him to deal with at the moment but it is always nice to see him. :-)0
