    Hiya,

    My five pleasures for Sunday:

    1. Bucketloads of new posts to read with lots of happy and positive things happening - you lot are good for cheering people up! (And hugs to those who are still struggling or unwell too.)

    2. More long conversations with DS1.

    3. Phone call with my lovely friend in the US, catching up after Christmas and the New Year.

    4. Laughing lots at the half-sized loaf that appeared out of the breadmaker at tea time. I'm sure that DS1 can't have put the sugar in, or got the flour measurement wrong. He swears he got it all right. It was just so funny peering down into the tin to see where the loaf had gone.

    5. Feeling very inspired by everyone's weight loss news. I discovered I've lost 2lb since the start of the year which is encouraging. Only shopping once a week is helping. Finishing off the cooking chocolate when I got the munchies the other night probably didn't :o but the trend is in the right direction.:)

    Sweet dreams

    evening all!
1.I got the most amazing bargain today! Went into 'town' (using the term very loosely!) to post letters & photos back home, got off a bus stop early & went into 'op shop '(charity shop), had a wander round, dd2 was with me & she just looked at books & toys. Saw, some, what I thought was red gingham fabric, turned out to be a single bed duvet set, 2 pillowcases, fitted sheet. When got to till I got it for 1/2 price as it had a purple tag on it(!) and was brand new! All for the glorious price of £2.50 ish! It's lovely.
2.Got my stamps (not MSE) but had a nice chat with the woman behind the counter!
    3. Too early for bus so popped over to our wonderful library, where you can take up to 30 items out at a time. We already have our books, so dd2 got 5 DVD's & I got 5 glossy magazines........& we can pop back later in the week & get more!
    4. Went to another op shop & found on the $1 (58p) rail 2 beautiful skirts for dd2.
5.Came home ,got them all washed & almost dried before the glorious rain started to clear the air & water the gardens!
6.Having lovely leek & potato soup & crusty bread for dinner.

Hope you all have a good start to your week!

Frith:Casualty was one of my favourite programmes, I have watched it since it started too and it is one of the programmes that I miss here. We have a choice of criminal/murdery/investigation type programme every evening on the main channels from 8.30pm. That is the watershed here. The ABC channel often has older UK series on it, so it's quite nice to see things again or that we missed first time around. I would say UK TV is better.....but can't have it all I suppose!

    Evening all.

mhagster - well done on your duvet cover bargain - it sounds lovely. (Oddly enough, when I spoke to my DM on the phone yesterday we were discussing our shared love of gingham fabric. A very minor coincidence, I know, but a nice one. :))

laloopi - can I ask how you go about making croissants, please? I rather fancy the idea of making my own if they're not too complicated.

Kittikins - that's great news about your date. :D I hope tonight's is / was just as good.

I'm a bit short on pleasures again today, thanks to a lousy night's sleep and a headache caused by last night's pub quiz. (Nothing to do with excess alcohol, I promise - I turned round to speak to someone just as one of my team mates went to give me a hug, causing his elbow to collide with my head and knock me off my chair. Ouch! :o)

    1) Booked next Monday off work so I can be in to receive my new breadmaker. :j

    2) Phoned the council to report that the recycling bin for my building is constantly full, and the very nice lady I spoke to has promised to get it sorted out.

    3) The sun shone all morning and over lunchtime, so I could go for a walk in my lunch break.

    4) My car didn't want to go this morning and I was dreading an expensive repair bill, but it was fine driving home this evening - what a relief!

    5) Another easy dinner - I took a portion of lamb casserole to work for lunch but wasn't hungry at lunchtime, so I can have it for dinner tonight instead. (With dumplings, as I'm now starving! ;))

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    1. Yesterday's home-made marmalade jars labelled up and packed away. In doing so we found a forgotten store of marmalade made last year so now have enough to keep us going for years !
    2. E-mails from two people from whom I don't hear very often.
    3. Managed to stick to my diet. (A major success knowing my weak will, especially when there was a big bar of chocolate lurking in the fridge).
    4. Succeeded in having the heating off most of the daylight hours. Am shocked to notice on our recently arrived gas bill to see how much higher our consumption is for this year over the same period last year, so am trying really hard to keep it down wherever possible.
    5. Noticed a cracked egg and decided not to cook & eat it for breakfast. So glad because when I cracked it open into the sink afterwards it was putrid, black and smelt absolutely vile. If I'd cracked that open at the breakfast table I would have had a huge clearing up job to do
  • Grumpy today, so trying hard...

    1. Got to take my girls to school and pick them up.
    2. Fire lit.
    3. Some online shopping for DH's birthday in the sale.
    4. Freezer will be defrosted soon to help with frugal meal planning.
    5. DH coming home.
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

    Hi Everyone,

Grrr - train was delayed by an hour coming back from London

    but...

    1) Got time to read my book

    2) am now able to claim compensation back from the train company and since work paid for the ticket originally then it means that I get a free ticket!

    3) Had an interview with a journalist this afternoon with my big boss... and it went really well. She scares the bejeezus out of me but I actually made a good contribution to in interview. Publication is next month.

    4) Caused a little curfuffle in the London office when I introduced the PR and communications team to the joys of Blackberry messenger. Rather amusing to see 5 people sitting in a little group all looking at their Blackberries and tapping in messages to each other.

    5) Bag or Percy pigs. I had bought them to share....

oh and a 6th from last night... I watched Wall-E. It was absolutly gorgeous and I'm not ashamed to say that I shed a little tear for Wall-E and EVA at the end. The whole film was just wonderful - I absolutely loved it.

night all... see you in the morning...

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
