Today mine were-
1. Making a vegetable soup using the soup mix I soaked yesterday
2. Walking up to the supermarket to buy milk and nappies instead of driving and I got what I went in for!
3. Making a left over turkey curry which was blooming lovely
4. Counted all the spare pennies and have £3 to put in LOs piggy bank
5. Started a 5p savings jar
Very Chuffed!!!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Hi Everyone,1) The daffodils are just starting to show through in my garden - a nice reminder that, although it feels like it's ages until spring, the plants know it won't really be that long now.
CCP - I was just saying that today felt like an early spring day
1) Reading my book - The Girl Who Kicked the H*rnets Nest
2) HM crumpets for breakfast with HM summer berry jam
3) Went into London to meet some people from a Meet Up group I joined. It was pleasant enough but I won't be seeing them again - I bought a couple of them a drink since I was going to the bar and they didn't offer to get me one when they went!
4) Making a cake for my friend who will be looking after the cat while I'm away... it hasn't quite worked out so I have cake for pudding tonight
5) Beautiful day!!! Spring can't come soon enough.

Hi all
I have missed a few days but here I am to post today's pleasures as it was a great day:
1 - Early-ish breakfast in bed (8am) courtesy of DH (egg and tomatoes on toast) as I needed to be early at.....
2 - ....the hairdresser's, where the manageress had very kindly offered to correct, free of charge, a dreadful mistake made by the trainee on my fringe (I go as a model but this is the first disaster I have ever had in years of modeling). As many of you know, I often have my fringe dyed pink. The girl forgot to bleach it before re-tinting it so it came out too bright at the tips and the roots were visible, so she bleached it, added some other colour and when I looked at the mirror I had a great big ORANGE fringe, it looked like I had been tangoed! I was so shocked that I started crying (the poor girl was looking desperate!!!). I put it down to hormones, I do not normally get so desolate about my hair! However the manageress accepted that it was a botch job and asked me to go back and have it re-done as soon as I wanted to. So this morning I went, had it re-tinted to the same colour of the rest of the hair (brown with blond highlights) and it looks great. In fact it looks so good that I feel rejuvenated by a good 10 year, it really had a great effect on my morale!
3 - Met up with my friend and we went for a long walk in the park followed by a cup of tea in the museum cafe (very nice, both the museum and the cafe).
4 - On our way back we realised that at 4:30 pm the sky was still light and were so delighted to see how the days are getting longer - I agree with Ladyhawk's post above - roll on Spring!
5 - We also heard a lovely bird song, stopped and had a good look on the nearby tree, where we spotted a little robin sitting on a branch and singing its little heart out. It was magical, with the sky only just starting to darken and a sliver of new moon in the sky!
6 - I decided to drop out of the no-supermarket challenge but still try and live as ethically as possible - but to use the supermarket if I really need to. I feel good about it.
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning all, Sunday here already!
Caterina: I feel your pain re hairdo! I went into a salon to get my eyebrows waxed, first time since arriving here & badly needing doing.......as opposed to needing doing badly! I can't bear the sensation of plucking so usually get them waxed every 5-6 weeks or so. Anyway, popped into a salon, if I cared to wait 5 minutes I could get them done without making an appointment...'shall I just do the tops' ..oh and then she did the 'bottom' so I now have a thin , almost horizontal line left in the middle.........a continual look of surprise! 4 days on & I'm still getting a shock every time I look in the mirror!
I love hearing everyone's cat tales, how you have cosy cats on knees & lying on papers. We left our 2 cats with my sister & our dog with my mum & I really miss them but do think it was right not to bring them with us.
Anyway, hurrah! the air is a bit clearer, heavy rain last night, good for the gardens, & good for my mood!
1. Yesterday we went food shopping, it was already 31o at 10am. You go into supermarkets, malls etc & they are all wonderfully air conditioned & then its whoomph! back out into wall of heat outside. I was quite pleased with what I got for what I spent. I find it so much more expensive for food shopping & our fruit, veg, bread prices are on increase because of the terrible floods In Queensland.
2. However, strawberries were on special offer in Aldi, so I bought 4 punnets & made strawberry jam last night & also made nectarine soft set jam as nectarines were on offer in Coles supermarket! Both delicious!
3.We packed a picnic, went to the beach......a mini sandstorm later, covered in sand! Everything!
couldn't see towels, beach tent was full of the stuff. We were all coated with at least 10 layers over our sunscreen! Even after showers back home still finding sand everywhere!
4. waves got up in sea & kids were 'surfing' on their boogie boards. The shrieks of pure delight from dd2 (10) were great. They are all such water babies........not me!
5.Home & made roast chicken. Had it with a nice salad & crusty bread. And plenty left for another dinner.Had also made another banana cake ,whilst oven was on & we had that for pud with a scoop of ice-cream. Very yummy! Then the glorious rain started & the air started to cool.
Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Caterina, your post about dropping out of the supermarket thing made me think of something bigger.
Just getting through some quite ordinary days can really feel like being battered about - like trying to walk through a galeforce wind - when there are money, job, family, or whatever, worries, or even just trying to live ethically and within ones means.
Sometimes it can seem just so hard and that means that it's even more important that we don't beat ourselves up for changing our minds, accidentally spending over-budget, asking for help, going back on an experiment - like your supermarket thing - that didn't work how you thought. It's really important that we are exceptionally gentle with ourselves and, as you say, 'to feel good about it'. We need to provide ourselves with a safe haven in troubled times.
Didn't mean it to sound like a sermon - it's just you made me think about how I treat myself.
Heigh ho... my five for Saturday:
1. Another :T NSD. Another :T £1 in the pot.
2. A long phone call with a friend whom I haven't been in contact with for about two years, catching up on loads of news. It was a real treat and it looks as if we are going to get to meet up again.
3. Kitchen is getting tidier - it's really slow work but the trend is definitely upwards.
4. Loads more sorting out DS1's project planning with him - there's tons to do but some of it will be such fun. It will give us all something to look forward to because he needs our help.
5. Tidied up (ie decluttered) my work notice board above my desk. I can find things again.
Sleep well,

Nooo, mhagster, poor you! Can you correct a bit with eyebrow pencil? Let me give you a bit of consolation if you like all things cat-related, check this youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo22j89UQAw
Broomstick, thank you for understanding exactly what I meant, you got it so right re. needing to treat ourselves gently! It is so easy to fall into a trap of eco-guilt, especially these days that we are surrounded left right and centre by tut-tutting newborn eco-warriors wagging their finger at any minor misdemeanor! In my case it feels like they are teaching granny to suck eggs! I was doing all these "green" things that are now so fashionable 20 odd years ago! Still, it is important that we only do what we can, without feeling bad if something does not work for us. Thank you very much for putting my thoughts in very articulate words! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
A quiet day at home, just popped to the local shop for a lottery ticket but other than that not seen a soul. That means of course that Broomstick has beaten me in the NY nsd's, as I spent £2 today
. Congrats on the 7/8 to Broomstick :T
well done Kittikins on the 5 years, and good luck on your plans for France. You go for it
Pam congrats on finding the £250, a nice amount to see in the a/c
Ladyhawk how rude some people are, can't believe they didn't offer you a drink after you'd bought them one . Never mind you have your holiday with a good friend to look forward to
Caterina oh dear what a disaster, but thank goodness it was something that could (eventually) be put right. And give your morale a good boost
Mhags the sandstorm doesn't sound good, but pleased it started to rain to settle the dust, so to speak. As for your eyebrow experience, well...see my 5 below! Do you have a recipe for the soft set nectarine jam, please? Sounds delicious
1. Not a nsd as I bought 2 lottery tickets, but did win £10 on one.
2. Made an appt to have my hair cut and coloured next Tues, prior to going on holiday. There's a lot of red in it so thought I'd bite the bullet and go RED! Having read Caterinas tale of woe has nearly put me off but what the heck, I'll go for it. At the college of course, not paying salon prices
3. Also made an appt to have my eyebrows waxed for the first time ever, in three weeks time. Having read Mhags disaster made me think twice but again what the heck, got to try most things in life at least once
4. Postie brought me some vouchers I earned doing surveys, they'll go in the envelope as presents for next Ch*****as
5. The first snowdrop in my garden has bloomed with lots more following
Night night sweet dreams

Good morning everyone!
Mine for yesterday:
1. Going for a swim with the children at the club I belong to and finding out that I could rejoin for just half the cost of normal membership for next year. The club is under new management and the staff had sent out letters with this new offer to a few members, in alphabetical order, before the offer was withdrawn by their managers. Luckily my surname was at the beginning of the alphabet and I could produce the letter to secure the offer. Also had a good swim and managed 100 lengths.
2. Cooked a lovely, mellow and inexpensive sausage casserole for tea using a recipe from BBC good food. Left it to cook for a couple of extra hours and ate it with crispy oven roasted baby potatoes with rosemary and garlic. YUM!
3. Have really cut back on snacks and am exercising a lot more and in the last week have lost 4 1/2 lbs. Am finally on the right track getting back to a sensible weight.
4. Watched a fascinating programme I had recorded last night about the 10 secrets of dieting. It contained a lot of new medical research about how the body deals with food and the effects of exercise. I must now try to eat protein to keep my from feeling hungry, or a bowl of soup as it stays in the stomach a lot longer. I was delighted to hear that even the day after exercise your body is burning a lot more fat, even at rest!
5. Am up early this morning so off to the gym for a session....hopefully meet my gym buddy Kate who is usually there at this time.
Have a good Sunday all of you!0 -
Hello to all,
gingersnap well done on the weight loss :-)
My pleasures for yesterday:
1. Was in the woods at 7am with the dog and saw the sun come up, it was so lovely and quiet.
2. Managed to get a really cheap return ticket to London the night before so could go and visit a friend without feeling bad about the spend.
3. My friend (who I haven't seen for nearly a year) was looking wonderful and happy.
4. We had lunch for £13.50 - for the both of us!!! (korean place near the British Museum)
5. A lovely walk and mooch about with her in the chilly afternoon sun.
Enjoy your Sundays!Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000 -
