Ladyhawk reading your post brings it home just how mindful we should be of the good things in our lives. That's why this thread is so uplifting and helps us to focus on this. Special thoughts sent to your friends and all others having such a sad time.
Have a good rest

Evening all.
Ladyhawk - I'm so sorry to hear about the dreadful time your colleague's having. My thoughts are with him and with your other colleague, too.
Lily_The_Legend - thanks for the tip-off about the Boots points. I hadn't heard about that, and will have to go and do some research.
sparrer - 7lb since Christmas? Seriously? That's fantastic - well done you! :T
I've had a slightly better day today despite my leg still being quite sore from triping over the cat yesterday - I must have hit the shelf on top of the cupboard as I've got a nice tiger-stripe bruise across my leg!
1) Stepped on the scales this morning and found I haven't put on any weight over Christmas. :j I still have to lose the weight I put on before Christmas, but at least there isn't any more to get rid of!
2) Got thanks and apologies from two colleagues who apparently genuinely didn't notice me fighting with the office Christmas tree yesterday and were quite surprised to find it gone this morning.
3) Got some good food bargains in M&S, and managed to walk past the clothes sale without stopping. :j
4) Ordered a heavily reduced case of wine: it seems a bit of an indulgence but I cook with wine a lot and it works out much cheaper to buy it like that, particularly when I found I could get the same selection for £25 off and with 5% cashback by ordering direct from the head office rather than the sub-office I usually use.
5) Friday tomorrow - I love extra-short working weeks!
Like Ladyhawk, I'm feeling very sleepy and will probably head off for an early night quite soon.
G'night all!Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening,
Ladyhawk - Hugs to both of your friends and you.
Pleasures for today:
1. Walked to the sorting office this morning to pick up a parcel (2.5 miles) so felt quite awake when got to work and still managed to get there on time.
2. HM soup again for lunch, just enough left for me to have tomorrow.
3. We had a home cooked dinner tonight before DD went to guides, this is the night I normally resort to takeaway but had everything prepared so made dinner quick and easy.
4. Just had a lovely Cream Doughnut with a cup of tea.
5. As ladyhawk said me and my family are healthy which has always got to be a pleasure
Hugs to all0 -
5 for today (Thursday).
1) Third good day in a row! It can't last, surely...
2) Spoke to the builder on the phone and he hopes to start the end of next week. Am really excited as I've lived here 11 years and never been able to afford to have one single thing done. The brickwork is just awful (honestly - I'll post some before and after photos!)
3) Went to my mum and dad's for lunch.
4) Cooked tea for mine and MrN's and it was all devoured instantly. Even though I did 10 portions of rice (I weighed it out) and there are only 8 of us, it all went.
5) Paid some cheques into the bank that I had for Christmas from Aunties and the lady behind the counter was someone I used to know years ago - hadn't seen her for 12 years!0 -

Well said dizzy lizzie.
Ladyhawk -such terrible news about your colleagues. Sending positive thoughts your way.
Here are mine for today:
1) Being with my family. I am fortunate to be able to spend a large percentage of my time with my DH and children and it is the most precious thing to me in the world.
2) Speaking on the phone with my mum and my sister. Making plans to go and see them next weekend to celebrate my oldest sister's (who died two years ago) birthday.
3) Going to borrow one of Hmmm's pleasures: music. Enjoying listening to some of my favourite tracks on Spotify.
4) The fabulous hm mozarella and rocket pizza we had for tea tonight. It was so nice that I aim to make another one this week sometime.
5) Grabbed some more children's books from the local library sale. They were only 10p and 20p each.
Have a good night everyoneDFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Gosh, I was last on here on Monday & now it's Friday morning. I am trying (trying!) to step away from the computer a bit, at times it seems like I am on it all the time, or I do a task & think 'oh, I'll just go on for a wee 5 minutes'.......one hour later still browsing! So I am hoping not to be as dependent on it for company!
1.Have been making lovely meals with what's in fridge, freezer & cupboards. because I don't have access to a car through day, we now do a weekly shop. This is quite new to me, as I always popped in & out of supermarkets (usually getting very good bargains) back home.
2.Had a lovely shopping trip with kids on Wednesday. We got the bus.....still a novelty!....to next town and had a wander, got a few bargains and had a nice lunch. I enjoy their company and I hope they enjoy mine!
3.Washing drying very quickly.......I have always liked getting my washing dried outside & this is such a bonus having daily sun! (she mutters......trying desperately hard to think of a positive to the ghastly heat!!)
4.writing down my memoirs from Christmas! So I can look back in years to come when I'm an old hand at Christmas in the sun & can hopefully laugh at how I felt on my first one! We got a pile of jotters the other day.........5 in a pack for 10cents......that's about 6p.....so bought 10 packs!
5.I suppose my main one,as I struggle in the heat (34o today) , is that I am here with my wee family, all of us together. We all get on (most of time!) and like each other's company. We all have our health and have lots to look forward to. new experiences to share with each other.
Going to beach today . I like to watch the sea, not so keen to go in it but my kids love it. I like to look at the sand....but not so keen on it going everywhere! My kids love to dig holes in the sand or bury their legs etc. Not for me.........sit on top & read my book, thank you very much!
Hope you all have a good day/tomorrow. keep warm & keep smiling!
........stepping away from computer! x0 -
I'll copy the bunting idea if that's OK, Blimus. It's a really good idea for using up scraps of wool or cotton and sounds so quick and easy. Thank you.
My five for Thursday
1. The memory that Nitha's post (thank you) gave me of finding my children - then toddlers - asleep together in my bed holding hands or cuddling.
2. Another NSD - and another £1 in the pot.
3. I daren't post this on one of the other old-style threads where there was a lot of friendly joking going on earlier about knitting your own dishcloths out of handspun stuff dyed with things grown in your garden - or whatever! - but today, I used all the old bits of string saved from my veggieboxes over the past few months (yes, I'd saved it) to crochet a really lovely little string bag to keep the onions in. I finished it very quickly and it now looks very good hanging up in the kitchen.
4. Eggy bread with spinach, tomatoes and cheese for supper. It's one of our favourites. I remembered I'd got sugar strand sprinkles in the cupboard so DS2 was really pleased when I suggested he had those on ice cream for pudding. He's getting better but needs to eat to make up for the last week or so.
5. Another load of decluttering and sorting done in the sitting room.
Off to bed. Sweet dreams,

Blimus and CCP re the weight loss, I was given a fancy set of bathroom scales for Christmas, so of course I had to weigh myself on 25/12. Horrified at 12st at only 5 feet short so a strict regime helped lose 7lb. Couldn't believe it myself but seems to be right. It will slow down now no doubt but I'll be happy with another 7lb in four weeks.
Nitha congrats on your LO's 3rd birthday
Pam had to smile at the advisor, he's right! I did 15 years as an LGO and don't miss it one bit. Well done on sorting the pension, makes me grrrr that they tax it though
Patchwork sounds like you got good bargains today. Can't beat M&S quality
Ladyhawk my thoughts and prayers are with your colleagues and their families. Well done for finding some pleasures after hearing of so much tragedy
Tealady what a lovely foodie day, in particular reading about your cream doughnut made my mouth water
Frith I'm really happy for you. We can't feel on top of the world all the time but it's good to hear that you have for the past few days. Looking forward to seeing the house progress
Blimus I do agree, we have so much to be thankful for. How amazing the simple things are, speaking with family on the phone, making a pizza...suddenly become much less mundane after hearing of such sad happenings. Well done on getting the books, what a bargain
Mhags sounds like you're really makng the best of things. It'll be better still when it cools down, I like warm but don't think I'd manage 34c! What a good idea to write a journal, it'll make interesting reading in years to come, especially for the DC
Broomstick you reminded me of my Nana who always knitted her dishcloths, although not from anything growing in the garden! Haven't had eggy bread for ages, sounds yummy, especially with the other bits to go with it
1. NSD, 5/6 so far
2. Postie brought me my Annie Lennox album at last, so have been playing carols all day!
3. Had a ladle of game casserole for lunch, made from the partridges and pheasants a friend gave me. Very yummy indeed!
4. Watched Martin Clunes Man to Manta, fascinating and beautiful
5. Thanking the powers that be for my family and loving every one of them, warts and all :A
Night night, sleep tight

It has been so long! Life just seems to have overtaken me lately! I have really missed you all, and thank you for a couple of lovely messages hoping I was well. Really kind and made my day.
My pleasures for the last few days...:
1. Our new Cream Legbar chickens are laying now, beautiful greeny blue eggs (though rather small!) so all our 4 hens are now laying. Very exciting- yesterday we had our first 4 egg day.
2. The mum of a girl I tutor recommended me to a friend so I may have another pupil to teach. I really enjoy it and it was a good feeling being recommended.
3. My life has had many ups and unfortunately lots more downs, but fingers crossed seems to be getting a bit better and more level... I am keeping those fingers crossed!!!
4. I am back on the healthy eating plan (for this substitute SW diet, loosely followed) and also exercising more so am starting to feel better and less lethargic.
5. We all had a good Christmas...no chemo, no herceptin, no bad news...just happy times with the children and OH. :-)
Wishing you all a very happy new year! xxx0 -
Hi to everyone on here, hope you don't mind me posting my OS pleasures from my day.
1. Making a thank you card with my daughter, using some bargain paints, she had a great time covering herself in paint.
2. Soaking some dried soup base mix in some water for use in a nice veggie soup tomorrow.
3. Hanging all my washing on the drying rack and making use of the radiators while they were on so everything on them is nice and dry.
4. Doing an excercise DVD which only took 20 minutes but I can feel it.
5. Although I haven't stuck to my healthy eating plan (still finishing up those christmas biscuits) I have stuck to my no alcohol in the week rule.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0
